From google trans, lol correct me if I am wrong but it seems like the magazine ask Zhenya if she likes Hanyu??? Lolol please Japanese native speaker answer this. :rofl2: She dodged though. The other stuff seems like old stuff where she said he is inspirational, the best etc etc. Roughly translated the first part of the interview (after that is more about herself.) Sputnic: How does Hanyu inspire you? Why do you want to skate with him? Zhenya: He inspires me as an athlete. Today many skaters see him as a role model. He is peerless as an athlete and no one would question that. Sputnic: On internet we can find many photos of you two together. Don’t you like him not only as an athlete but also as a young man? Zhenya: I don’t want to answer such question. I’ve made friends with many skaters from many countries in the first place. They are from the USA, Japan, China, Korea, France, Philippine… almost everywhere in the world. We all get along with each other really well. In competitions, we try to spend good time together because we don’t have much time to get together. Basically we talk in English. Sometimes we get together in someone’s room and have a chat or watch movies and videos. LOL I can't believe they actually ask her that??? I thought google trans is fooling around lmao :xD: On a side note google trans is pretty accurate in giving you the gist of what the interview is about though as always the translation is messy. Thanks for the translation sweetwater, here +3 goe for you :goe:

@katonice and pomelopooh does not matter much imo. He did Seimei in FaOI last 2 seasons too and he performed all the quads (with a painfull fall, ouch). Don't forget he tried 4A at DOI

I have a wild guess - maybe he'd want to do LGC again? To get it clean. And it suits as a show. (Plus in the show lights the white costume may finally work...) I had the same wild thought about LGC, but with that jump layout it is hardly possible in a show. Unless there is a new, "show" version of it. But I will be happy with any of his competitive programs "revisited" (Seimei, Chopin  , Etude). All he needs to do is to do 3Lo, 3S and 3A instead of his actual program layout :space: Though if it is for redemption's sake he probably want to go for the original (yikes)

+1 I don't mind seeing sing, sing, sing again. Give it to us Yuzu :D
-
Now I am currently watching his bolero programs :yay: Or maybe sing sing sing? I think he just performed etude in 2013 (forgot as an SC ex or TEB ex, but one of them, the other one was NDP iirc). Or he could revisit RnJ2 because that program has not been re-performed by the current him. :p Chopin and Seimei maybe still a bit too fresh, or who knows he probably would do LGC just to have redemption hahaha. So many possibilities
-
I assume his programs won't be ready (whether competitive or gala), so I wonder what he will perform for ice shows. He used to do past programs and exes, maybe he want to revisit his junior programs? hahaha, I would like to see current Yuzuru doing Bolero or that mission impossible program. (Or maybe even paganini :D)

Landings, mechanics, etc of FS jumps
mcq replied to meoima's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Maybe, but I am talking more about the way he unwraps his free leg. It does not necessarily mean that it is wrong though, it just bothers me but I can't explain why :p Maybe fresca can explain better -
Haha that's great! Asahi is more lenient than Fuji so finding videos after that won't be a pain. :goe:
-
I propose a live chat when i find a stream. I WILL find a stream What channel are they usually broadcast on? Previously, BS Asahi Oh.. not fuji is it? (Fuji is a pain because copyrights and youtube will block everything in existence) :ohno:

Boyang has hard landings occasionally and I think like Fresca said it is because his knee is a bit stiff (unlike Yuzu), similarly I feel the same with Nathan. But I have other problem with Nathan, the way he checks out and opens up his jump is a bit weird sometimes. I am not sure if it will affect him in terms of injury though or whether it is just style and will not affect someone so much.

[tweet]861417731693789184[/tweet] *sobs* Hahah finally some news, which date though? ETA : nevermind, just checked he will do all stops

Woohoo! Congrats! :yay: I think to get that extra height necessary to complete the rotation, it might be necessary to come in with more speed too (which is why doing it from steps and with minimum preparation is very unlikely). That is why to complete it you need more height + fast rotation and somehow also more speed. More speed might help you get more height and naturally it would result in more distance. I kind of agree with the momentum part though; you mean checking out to stop the rotation right? More airtime does help because if Yuzu checkout just veeery close before landing, he might not slow down the rotation just enough and the angular momentum from the rotation might throw him off and make him fall on the landing (some people call it over-rotation). This is one pretty good article that explains a bit about the mechanics of jumping in figure skating http://www.iceskatingintnl.com/archive/features/jumping.htm I will quote You can read it there in a more detailed explanation to why I said height is what matters the most in determining airtime, and though speed may help, it affects very little to the total airtime. Skaters with not enough height that can complete the rotation necessary usually would : either pre-rotate or rotate considerably faster.

I don't know why I am confident Jun Hwan would get 2.
-
Thanks! So the earliest competition where I would expect to see him would be Nebelhorn then :goe: I thought their pairs just recently split but maybe I'm wrong? Anyway, I am pretty sure I read up that Korea was guaranteed a spot due to being the host? No matter what happens? So if there are 30 skaters slot that are filled they would have 31 to accommodate the host? (Though I would like to think Jun Hwan will qualify from Nebelhorn no matter what, but just in case).
-
Oh no that one was correct, I thought you were asking whether small jumps are harder to control than higher jumps. Though I would also argue even if that is the general understanding, it is not always the case. I'd say Mao's jumps are pretty high but sometimes does not really have the distance but some other skaters who has more distance than height (like Satoko) would be much better and more consistent to control their axis, so it is not only dependent on height and distance when you are talking about the ability of a skater to maintain their axis. I think generally, when comparing between 2 huge jumps, those who have more distance would have the tendency to go off-axis more than those who jump high but barely travels.
-
Anyway quick question, who is going to go to Nebelhorn for the men? Jun Hwan? I know the ladies won't need to because they already secured 2 spots.
-
I actually think higher jump is much harder to control due to the possibility of getting yourself thrown off-axis (that also becomes higher). You can see this mostly with skaters who jump huge but do not have really "tight" air position like gabby daleman, midori ito for example. Their jumps are huge but wild. It is easier to control smaller jumps and become more consistent of landing it. Satoko and zhenya are consistent but their jumps are not necessarily huge too.
-
I think quint can happen if there is advancement in boots technology hahaha But until then... I don't think so :D
-
mmmmh I get how distance doesn't really factor into airtime but how come not speed? Or does speed just affect the flow in/out ... Speed may help you get more height, but higher speed will not get you more airtime without the height? Think of it this way, say skater A jump 30 cm and has speed of 15 km/h while skater B jumps with the speed of 25 km/h and also 30 cm, what will likely result is similar airtime but skater B would have more distance in his jump than skater A? This is why Yuzuru's jump seems bigger because of his speed coming in, thus more distance for his jumps?
-
I can PM you if you want to see the jump height analysis. He can land a 4S from almost no speed (without much prerotation), while many skaters struggle to land and fully rotate a quad even with setting-ups that take 10 hours. :p His airtime for the triple is shorter than his airtime for quad. But some of his triple (like 3lz for example) could have more to almost similar airtime to his 3A or 4S. He actually has the most airtime for 4T, due to more height that he achieved there.
-
LOL plushy XD
-
The reason why people think it is him who can land it is because he jumps pretty big and he rotates fast. This is a jump that really needs height and that extra airtime. Speed can help you get more height, maybe, but it is height mostly that is needed to get this jump happening. Yuzu can jump 3A from a stand still and land (+fully rotate) it quite often, moreso than others who spend 1000 years setting up for their 3A and still flop it; so speed imo does not play much role as long as you can get the height needed. More speed can get you more distance too, though it does not necessarily mean you will get more airtime. I actually read the jump height analysis someone made, and airtime is highly dependent on the height, not the distance/speed. Those with similar height of their jump will get almost identical airtime, regardless of their speed. Due to these, you can rule out those that jump small and those who do not rotate fast + have tight air position. Hence, not many people left available. I also think you probably need lighter boots to make it happen.

Wow, is she moving to senior?
-
I saw them at junior worlds. They are pretty nice. If they can get throw triples and 3tw soon, they should be great for the future. Riku and shoya only paired up recently if I am not wrong, saw them at JWC. This is the first time I saw rikako and aru, or maybe I have but I completely missed them
