  1. You've taken it before me! So I'm the one a little behind, after the orange blossoms.
  2. What I meant, is that Veronika Zhilina is truly exceptional. If she is led astray (in skating terms) it will be a great loss. And I don't know the extent that can be made on such a young skater. Will it be recoverable or not? Yuzuangel, it was quite natural, after growing 8cm, that Alexandra Trusova's quads should be less reliable for some months; and wit falls, it was logical that she should get Bronze. She seemed to have recovered them for Worlds, but there were no Worlds. And as to Anna Shcherbakova being the favourite (or Alina Zagitova), I think this is what a teenager can think while others think her the favourite, or another, etc. It can hardly be deemed a fact. Though Alina Zagitova DOES now have a stronger bond with him, on the account of his late mother (who passed away last year I think). But in no way to the point of being called a favourite and the others let away. Edit : Lyudmila Borisovna Shalashova died on August 29th 2019.
  3. That, if Plushenko fails, would be a great stroke to Russian Ladies skating.
  4. I don't think Team Tutberidze have secret methods, though he may have been recruited for this reason (or to try to lure some juniors). But they will have to recruit somebody "on the spot", off-ice, and test him at a moment when they will also have to rebuild the skater's skills. If they find somebody capable of that, they would be the winners, by far. I hope they will. Yuzuru Hanyu?
  5. I didn't know it went so far as her refusing to do the exercises. But I understood she was very reluctant about anything but jumps. And it is on her account that ISU behaviour infuriates me more. She already has a like for jumps. If improving her skating skills doesn't even improve her score, or marginally, why bother? I mean, unless one have a true artistic or at least perfectionist temper.
  6. I don't think so, as only Kamila Valieva is likely to reach or surpass their level. Sofia Akatieva and Veronika Zhilina are too young, and Maiia Khromykh would have a tiny chance of medal if she were to be in the Russian team, but she is unlikely to be part of it. Let's see for Daria Usacheva.
  7. The thing is, he is still to prove able to pass on such beauty. I sincerely hope he will manage, because if he fails with such a high profile as Alexandra Trusova (who "just" needs to recover from her long off-ice period now, to be again "the Alexandra Trusova", as she had, just before Worlds, recovered her stability after her growth spurt; and to be motivated to practice on skating skills, to become a great skater), she may well be the last promising skater to come to him. I don't worry that much about her, because she's so much of a high profile and I think she may have a long career, that if she doesn't medal at Beijing, she has chances at Milano, with all other in-between and another coach.
  8. Thank you so much for the information. Eteri Tutbridze will have to recruit somebody for her juniors, but I have always felt awkward with Sergei Rozanov, I don't know the reason (whether he didn't feel well in the team, or whether he had shortcomings).
  9. She had a poodle, Lana, when she landed a triple axel in practice. (And since, her brother had a husky.)
  10. I believe Evgenia Medvedeva's bitterness after her Olympic Silver was aggrieved because she was "worked on" by other Russian coaches (I wonder if there was not Panova but really I am in no way sure) who wanted to attract her. She was convinced to leave her coach but was no fool and went to Brian Orser. I wonder if it was not the same with Alexandra Trusova and/or her parents. She was upset by her bronze medals, and maybe by a different treatment probably due merely to her growth spurt (8cm last season if I remember well, and she kept her quads!) which needed specific and boring exercises. But either she didn't know enough, or she wasn't allowed to go training elsewhere, she will train with Plushenko, who, strangely, has this reputation of being rather absent to his pupils, while Eteri Tutberidze has the opposite reputation. I hope Plushenko will seize this chance and give her what she needs to become a complete skater. And I guess some overseas coaches are already trying to find sponsors for her.
  11. A little brother of Alexandra Trusova's poodle?
  12. What I wonder too, is : did he do his hair himself? (I know I am shallow.)
  13. I find it very interesting that nearly nine years after, he still considers this moment (White Legend) the "birth of him as a skater", as this program was meant to be then (a swan losing its juvenile darker feathers). If as a person, he was still a teenager then (the wisest and most reliable teenager of course), and I feel he became a "full fledged man" (as he declared himself to be) only last season, as a skater he was already an adult. How clear-sighted of him, as usually one is less aware of one's own situation. And I am so, so grateful for such a beautiful video, which must have required so many hours thoughtful preparation, and will certainly be enjoyable many, many times! Water for the drought, a good refreshing rain, yes! (Though by the end, I confess I was so excited as to imagine he could unveil the start of one of his new programs. ) Yuzuru Sama, if you happen to read this, thank you, thank you, thank you!
  14. Speaking of rinks... I don't know if this belongs to this thread, or Music Talk, or another. New rinks, or refurbished rings, tend to be more energy and water efficient, so they can no more be those warehouses. Yet they are still acoustically awful. The reason why I wasn't interested in skating or gym when I was a child, was the terrible sound. By then I only perceived the bad quality of the stereo (or mono) systems, now solved. But there are still these problems of reverberation, which were particularly acute for instance in Seoul at 4CC (maybe they were too busy with avoiding propagation of the virus to dwell on the quality of ice and sound, and they did well). I know it depends on factors such as how full are the seats, but nowadays it is so easy to have mobile, adjustable panels on walls or ceiling, why is it not done? And I am speaking of basic anti-reverberation device, not sophisticated equipment such as the Piano Festival of La Roque d'Anthéron had already, back in the 80es, I can tell you it was a wonder, it is no mystery why Krystian Zimerman was a frequent guest. I think even this could be achieved nowadays at a reasonable cost. There's a video of Yuzuru Hanyu studying the acoustics of a rink before skating, I suppose it is important to him and a great endeavour to adapt, I don't know if it is to other skaters... or to audience. I found only this on the subject, and it is about rather basic considerations. http://www.chuck-wright.com/Skating/rinksound.html
  15. Though not nice, I think the most important is for her to become aware of what she did and the consequences, and to take it positively too (I mean, I hope it will not affect her health), not what a particular former skater, known for his language, can say in Russian media.
  16. We can also seriously expect a mimic of next skater's program, and we know he's very good at it. I wonder when it will be aired?
  17. But they still need a home... I don't remember if there are hard rules in UK, but cannot you adopt the kitten(s) and take an appointment for a vet visit later? After all I suppose a kitten can as well be vaccinated and dewormed etc at 12 or 15 as at 9 weeks (and there is no risk of a female getting pregnant)? Or if there are stringent rules, is not this considered a good motive to consult?
  18. Of course, but a cat doesn't need just a few days of attention. And it would be quite difficult to take it everywhere if he brings it to Toronto, and he must consider the additional workload to his father and sister if the cat stays in Sendai. It is a perfect moment to be a cat-sitter if he gets an occasion, rather.
  19. Maybe he's not in a mood for new videos? With the state of emergency being extended to May 31st, maybe Sendai Rink won't reopen next Wednesday as planned (though they may have already started to make the ice), though at the moment there is no update on the rink's site. Edit : Here an old one (probably from 2015-2016) showing a kimono/haori suit, with five kamon (his), which I hadn't seen before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD2KfB2976k (Youtube didn't allow embedding this video.)
  20. I don't think a compulsory untested vaccine would be a good solution. It could do more harm than the virus itself. Let's see how things go on. And many thanks to AxelSandwich for this new translation of hers, in so little time.
  21. I wish her all possible happiness! Edit : I removed imprudent words.
  22. So, this skater used to train far away from her coach?
  23. The mayor of Sendai looks older than six years ago (thank you Sweetwater for the video). Not him.
  24. In wouldn't want him much to skate to a tango, anyway it wouldn't be very original, but I found this one rather suited the choice of extracts, some of which I hadn't seen before :
  25. It is so nice to have such an insight on the experience of a skater's first steps on the international Junior network. But Gabrielle Daleman is forgotten.
