That must be so disappointing I wish you and your friend/her coworkers,, as well as everyone on this forum all the best in getting tickets!!

I really love the Blood Diamond soundtrack as well! One of my favorite programs of Stéphane Lambiel is his 2007 Worlds SP, barely performed but absolutely brilliant step sequences:

Thanks for sharing all your hard work here, xeyra! Have you tried calculating Shoma's LP score with a 4Lz (since that seems what he's aiming for)?

I can't seem to recall, but if so, it's great how he's continued that tradition of accentuating the music with his spins many years on.
-
What I enjoy most about Yuzuru's spins is the arm movements and musicality, I don't think anyone else in the men's field currently competing pays as much attention to the musicality of his spins as Yuzuru does. Whether he's rocking out and pumping his fist during a sit spin in Let's Go Crazy, or the way he dramatically clasps his fist during his combination spin to a low note in Chopin, or seamlessly changes his positions to the phrases of the music as his Notre Dame de Paris TEB ex from 2013, there's always more things to appreciate than just positions. People have also spoke of the trade-off between hip flexibility (Jason, many flexible female skaters) and the quick, snappy rotation necessary for jumps, especially quads. It's a difficult balance.

I agree that Nathan's team are probably aware of the risks, especially because Nathan has sustained many serious injuried when he was younger. I believe he had a condition with his growth plates where his bones didn't develop fast enough to support his increased muscle, which is what caused his very specific hip injury in the 2015-2016 season. Now that he's older and more developed, that condition has less effects on him. However, 6-7 quads is really pushing it and even if they're aware of the risks he seems very confident and ambitious, so we will see what happens. ETA: Ok, we've moved onto split jumps sorry for the

Landings, mechanics, etc of FS jumps

I would agree with it being a touch down of the free foot, Lys! -
Oh wow, moni, thank you so much for this organized list of videos!!

Landings, mechanics, etc of FS jumps

Yes, it's definitely different. It's still a little bit of a balance aid, though, isn't it? It's hard to break down the sequence of what he's doing. He is unraveled, but the leg goes low so quickly it seems like "during" the landing instead of "after." I don't know how to evaluate it, but I would think all these points added together would suggest giving lower GOE. *shrugs* *also bows down to Fresca* I definitely agree it warrants lower GOE, because it doesn't show complete control like a landing with a high free leg using great extension. I think Shoma's free leg isn't purposefully acting as a balance aid, although any point of the contact does help support, but I think it's a clear product of his extremely low knee-bend and wrenched landings, which could/should also lower GOE. The judges gave him +0.71 GOE on that landing at COR, mostly +1s, one -1, and one +2. http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1617/gprus2016/gprus2016_Men_FS_Scores.pdf -
Hi Yuazz! Perhaps your questions would suit the Overall skating talk thread more, but I think the ISU won't start thinking about quints until the 4A has been landed regularly. But it's also a big if, because I really hope they don't give quints points until boot technology, research into the mechanics of jumps and the consequences on the body, training facilities, and medical treatment all improve.

I think Shoma's extremely low/scraping-the-ice free leg is a bit different from what is understood to be a "two-foot landing" like Mao's 3A here: Fresca, thank you so much for your diagrams and patient explanations, they really help clarify a lot of the issues we see with jumping today! Your wealth of knowledge is astounding! -
Pasquale Camerlengo sounds fabulous for Anna P! I'm a bit sad that he doesn't seem to choreograph as much for the top skaters, his programs for Akiko Suzuki and Daisuke Takahashi were standouts of their career. I remember he said he wanted to choreograph for Yuzuru at one point, a long time ago. Maybe post-Olympics? Glad to see Misha Ge choreographing a bunch of Russian skaters, especially Voronov, who has a soft spot in my heart. Thanks for the updates everyone!

I also think it's a smart decision for Nathan to go for 7 quads, especially as he's aiming for the top of the Olympic podium, perhaps with plans to move on from this sport and pursue medicine/education, but I don't think it's a plan that endears his skating to more people who wish for more balanced programs from him. If he's not going for Marina Zoueva, who I think really plays up the classical aspect of him, I think a Jeffrey Buttle short would be good for him, but I hope Jeff saves the best for Yuzuru

We should all thank Gladi, who was the one who actually did the editing ;) And thanks to you for providing such great feedback (which would be even more useful for new projects when we can incorporating some of your ideas since the beginning) :D Of course I didn't want to thank some people and then leave out names by accident, but gladi thank you so much for all the editing! Great work and great attention to little details!

Alia Jackson, everyone involved, what a wonderful video! Lys, I'm so happy to see some of my suggestions included, just like Yuzuru you guys are striving for the best and improving! Thank you so much, time to watch this video many many times.

I completely thought the same as you for Une Barque Sur L'Ocean, and made a rough edit using his MOI performance of Requiem of Heaven and Earth last year, the water themes and the blue wash of the lighting totally inspired me. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx8yXRZg-s4HY0llT0VrX2FoX00/view This era of French music (including Debussy, even some Satie) I think totally fits with Yuzuru's flow, delicacy and intricacy. I love your pick of Ondine for him.

Thanks for the picture Geo1! It's interesting to see how his tastes go more into the pastels and light colors than dark ones. This season's costumes were close to his lucky colors of pink and green, I wonder what next season's costumes will be.

Other Skaters' 2017/18 program announcements
unicorn replied to CupidsBow's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Thanks for the confirmation, xeyra (and congratulations on your many posts!! ). I wonder if they'll mix the song with another piece of music, it seems difficult to skate to without any particular highlights/progression. -
Something 'safe', classical yet popular...emotional... like Mahler's symphony 5; 4th movement? He'd do it justice :,) Hey just_peachy, somebody sent me these links. Look what somebody made, Notte Stellata set to Mahler's 5th. Part 1 Part 2

Haha, I did promise a LGC rant, didn't I. I'll aim for sometime in the next few weeks to gather my thoughts. And I forgot about that gladi, you're absolutely right! I remember he said that he tries not to make his toe-picking too obvious, he always tries to pick very light and without much preparation so that it doesn't disturb the flow. Definitely Yuzusthetics

I think Yuzuru was referring the to entry curve and location on the ice. For the 4Lo, he goes in a big circle in the center of the rink so it's a very round approach, while for the salchow, almost like if it was a toe jump, he goes more alongside the longer side of the rink and does a 4S+3T using a much shallower entry curve. I think it's probably harder for him but there's no extra points involved, except for the subjective choreography/composition mark where they can reward placing elements in interesting and different places. I totally picked up on this and as a 10th judge I would give him higher marks for it because look how both the movements and patterns on the ice are so much rounder when the music is just those psychedelic, aimless guitars (lots of spread eagles, ina bauers, and skating in big circles) and then as soon as the drum line kicks in and the music has more "direction", his movements become much tighter and the patterns become a lot more linear. You're right, that's definitely Patrick's hand, and I think his sleeves are way too big. Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but I think the best fitting suit he's worn (I'm not an expert) has to be at the Big Sports Award in early 2016? Source: SportyMags's new blog/SANSPO

Who is your favorite female skater?
unicorn replied to yuzuangel's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Welcome to the forum, adiosnonino! Your namesake, Yuna's 2014 LP, is an interesting program, it's very subtle and I grew to like it the more I watched it, but I think unfortunately competing so little that season didn't give the judges/audience the time to appreciate it as much as they could have. LadyLou, I also haven't found a new ladies skater that I've become very attached to in this new bunch, but the leaders of the pack are all very young, and I can imagine how great they'll be a couple of years from now. -

I see a lot of star power in Marin Honda, just like there was in Yuna and Mao. If she can transition to seniors well, she will be a force to be reckoned with! Although the media pushes her a lot, she's so likeable and great to watch. I know she has a condition with her feet, but hopefully she can continue improving her jumps. -
Good to hear you've got some tickets, jinabee, hope you have fun! And good luck to you knifeshoes, if you try again I hope you can get something! Hopefully your efforts will be rewarded!
