I can picture every skater shivering from Yuzuru Hanyu's honest and ruthless commentary: "Ouch. That 5T had no exit curve at all. The landing foot hit the ice like a meteor. Someone has to check and fix the hole."

Unpopular opinion: I really liked Otonal and Origin from the beginning, because I'm a fan of the easy music genre in general. Easy, soothing and memorable. On the other hand I had very bad experiences with Ballade No. 1 in the past. I tried to listen to it in my car and nearly crashed into a dumpster during the crescendo. From that day Ballade was cancelled for me (sorry Frederic) However, Music with Wings turned everything upside down. While the interpretations of Otonal and Origin were a bit underwhelming for me, Ballade No. 1 gave me goosebumps from head to feet. It was my absolute favorite performance of the entire concert and I'm listening to it in 24 hours loop now. Thank you, Kotaro Fukuma-sama!

I celebrate these four votes for POTOWWAC so much I'm really curious, what Yuzu will pick for Worlds... Save the best for last, aye? It was so much fun to create all these polls this season! I liked what my mom said after Yuzu's SP: It's just Chen's temporary reign in Hanyu's dynasty of figure skating.

A short recap of this season so far: Yuzu broke all four curses that haunted him for so long: 1. Skate Canada silver curse 2. Ankle injury at second GP curse (for me this is the most important curse that has been broken, thank God) 3. "I-can't-win-if-Papadakis-and-Cizeron-win"-curse 4. 4CC silver curse Other key accomplishments so far: 1. Yuzu reached the second highest total score of his career at Skate Canada 2. He became the first man to land a 4T+1Eu+3F in competition 3. At the GPF he landed the 4Lz for the first time since 2017 4. He landed 5 quads in a freeskate for the first time in his career 5. At 4CC he set his 10th world record in the short and his 19th overall 6. He became the first man to win a career super slam 7. Most importantly: he is still healthy and skated 6 competitions this season already. Whatever happens at Worlds, he can be so proud of himself. Despite the crazy judging, the narratives, the painful defeats and the program issues he just never gave up. He fights like a true champion again and again and is the light of hope for everyone, who has to face injustice and hard times him- or herself.

Tbh I thought about R&J 1, too... He has won his first medal at Worlds with that program. The mature version at Continues with Wings was amazing and Yuzu seems to have a very soft spot for revivals, warhorses and classics However, I root for LGC this with all my toes and fingers.

So yeah. Here we go. One last EX poll this season. EDIT: This is the only vote that REALLY matters, aye? I could also imagine Requiem at this point. Yuzu picked Chopin 2.0 as his layout. With Seimei and Requiem he would complete the trinity of the 15/16 season. Also Requiem is an EX that we haven't seen for quite a while.

People who call this particular program change 'laziness', didn't bother to think about the reasons for a single second. 1. Dropping two tribute programs in the middle of the season before skating them to his satisfaction, must have been the hardest and most painful decision in Yuzu's entire career so far. It needs a lot of courage to admit to yourself and the whole world that your program choices didn't suit you and didn't work out the way you wanted. 2. The fact that the music choice has such a big influence on Yuzu's skating, just proves once again, how strong his bond with the music is. For him it's not just a random exchangeable background sound but the pulsing heart of his performance. Every jump entry, every transition literally stands and falls with his feeling for the music. And sadly this bond didn't seem to be strong enough this time. (That's how I interpret his latest interviews.) 3. Yuzu took a huge risk with the revival of Chopin and Seimei. If anything goes wrong, he taints his two signature programs that brought him all the success and popularity over the past years. He put himself under enormous pressure with this choice. To call him "lazy" is completely unfair and inapropriate in this situation. I wonder, if any of these people could bear 1% of the pressure that Yuzu carries on his shoulders every day. I bet, they would flee every civilization as fast as they can and never write a single word on social media again.

First of all. Thank you SO much for the translation! I really hope that this pressure won't be too big in competition... On the other hand, he skated one of the best Seimei performances ever at MOI. The awesome backward crossrolls... the genius 3A-like spin entry... just everything on point. Toes and fingers crossed that he can use this positive memory in his performance this week, too

Seriously. You're not a true fan, if you stay and support this corrupt system with your time and money. You're a true fan, if you riot against the current judging madness and work on new objective measurement tools to make the sport as fair as possible for future talents. If figure skating was still like back in 2015-2018, I would watch and enjoy it even without Yuzu, because the quality and entertainment factor was enormous. It was the time, when Javi, Patrick, Shoma, Boyang, Misha Kolyada and many others enriched the sport with amazing performances and the scores somewhat reflected what they actually did on the ice. Figure skating was not that kind of a blatant depressing clownery show that it is today and I feel sad for every young talent who is robbed of a bright future, before his or her career has even begun.

I'm not an expert for spin levels, but according to the TP handbook in a Camel position the knee of the free leg must be higher than hip level. In Nathan's Camel spins the free leg completely hangs down most of the time. I wonder, if that hits the technical requirement at all. When I see skaters like Jason, Yuzu or Roman getting lower GOE for their exemplary spins, it feels like a terrible joke.

Honestly. If you give higher PCS to Rocketman with a big stumble than a nearly foot-perfect Schindler's List from Jason... well, that tells you everything about the value of quality and artistry. The current judging discredits the achievements of every single skater who is not Nathan Chen. Yuzu is not the only one, who suffers from this impossible situation. I can imagine that this program change is some kind of ultimatum to the ISU. If they give lower scores to a refined Seimei than in Barcelona 2015, Yuzu can leave the stage with a smirk and a collapsing system behind him.
