  1. So, at this rate, is it going to be the Beijing Olympics we watch, or the first International Multidisciplinary Academic Symposium on Extreme Human Achievement in Figure Skating through Creating and Landing the 4A with Yuzuru Hanyu, B.Sc*° as convenor? They're all going to be in Beijing anyway, might as well get the research done *does anyone know what Yuzu's academic letters are? Is he Bachelors or Masters? ° thanks @Geo1
  2. Safe travels!!! For everyone!!! Apparently the Chinese are using a 40 cycle PCR instead of the standard 35 cycle one - which will make it more difficult for those with recent, resolved infections, to pass. This could affect a lot of athletes, not just skaters, and kill their Olympic dream at the last minute.
  3. I can sympathize, for me the Men's SP starts during the last two hours of a work shift I may not be able to get away from.
  4. No. There are strange people on the internet who steal Yuzu's image and have it printed on things, that they then sell on Amazon, just because he's popular. Clearly gold is MUCH better. I mean, look at how young he looks!
  5. It's his best beauty tip - for good skin, sleep under 2 Olympic gold medals!
  6. I'm very relieved for the Tohoku region and Sendai, I would imagine an event like this brings back bad memories for everyone. But while we're on the topic of the eruption, I want to share this: I know it's not directly Yuzu-related. But Pita Taufatofua is also a Winter Olympian, annd I'm sure that Yuzu, having been through a similar situation himself, would be most compassionate with this. If you read the article and dig through the Twitter feed, you'll see that most communication with Tonga has been lost since the eruption. Pita's father is the governor of the island closest to the volcano, and nothing has been heard from that island at all since the blast. Also, the main island of Tonga is only 28m above sea level at it's highest point, so the tsunami would likely have had devastating effect there. Therefore, satellites, if you can spare some $$ to help Tonga, please support Pita's Go Fund Me. Thank you.
  7. Hard to fit a container in the overhead bin on a plane though
  8. A nearly empty bag, to fill with Yuzu merch, you mean?
  9. The nearest ANA route to me is New York - Haneda, flying daily . . . maybe I can get an ANA flight to France for Worlds, if I go the scenic route: Ottawa >New York> Haneda> Paris. It would be worth it for an official Yuzu bear.
  10. Welcome! And thank you for sharing your story! Yuzu really does make people's lives better, doesn't he? Just by being his own wonderful self.
  11. Wow. I hate to say it, but from the sounds of all that, in the end only a very select few will be able to watch. It kinda puts a lot of pressure on the participants too - imagine having to worry that if you test positive, the entire arena of spectators who are there to watch you compete, all the officials, all the media people, and all your competitors will have to quarantine. Because that's what it means, if I read it correctly.
  12. For the whole 'equality and inclusion' thing, maybe? You have to admit R/J do suit the purpose, although Skate Canada has so far refrained from billing them that way. If I had to guess, it's really just about name recognition, and getting butts in front of TV sets come February. None of the gold medal dream team from the 2018 Olys have stuck around, except Eric. Arguably, tge potential audience for Olympic figure skating needs that to sit down and watch? But Skate Canada is also an organization that hangs on to past glories for far too long. They're like the anti-Eteri in that regard. Rather than constantly cycling in new young skaters and not giving them a chance to develop, Skate Can has often kept skaters around long past their peak. And that's fine as long as it's not choking off opportunity for others.
  13. At least they're starting to get the gender right
  14. Imagine you're a fellow competitor stretching in the warmup area and Yuzu starts leaping 4As...
  15. Uchimura and Yuzu, match made in 4A heaven? I wonder how much they could help each other achieve if they met and compared notes?
  16. No, fan-organized fundraising is banned. For a myriad of reasons but the chief one being that most such activity is done to show support for the various K-Pop idols that are, much to the dismay of the authorities, extremely popular in China. In any case, Chinese fanyus do so much to show their support for Yuzu already. There's no need for them to fundraise as well. They are doing enough as it is.
  17. Well, Russian pairs are a juggernaut for anyone to face, but IMO R/J have not been consistent enough together to justify placing so much confidence in them. Their partnership hasn't gelled yet at all. Whereas Trennt and Evelyn have nowhere to go but up. Plus, they slugged it out in the trenches for the past four years doing their part to keep Canada's two spots. They earned the right to go.
  18. Very disappointed not to see Evelyn and Trennt there. They earned the spot.
