You gotta laugh... the Olympic Channel decided to tweet a 'Who's your favourite?' for Bobblehead (???) Day and to no one's surprise (including, no doubt theirs), guess who was runaway winner yet again.....

Are these two tweets about the same Chinese 'top 10 athlete' list that Yuzu's been named on? This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].

Oh how beautiful! I'm not known for my artistic sense, but since it's HYK, can I just suggest light traces of wispy, dusky sunrise colours?

It's lovely that Japanese people who know about the story and legend Yuzu is conveying, are so moved and happy about it.

Even though we know he's probably (if not certainly) the most physically beautiful in the sport - male or female - sometimes you get a piece of proof that leaves you stunned: this is one of those pictures. It's just... unearthly.

I don't know if this picture has been shared, but it came up as a retweet for me and after staring at it for... quite a while, I simply had to put it here.

Nam's friends with Yuzu bits - first the lovely comments on Yuzu's skates, now this specific picture chosen for his favourite event - are making me really happy. I do love them both...

It is amazing - when I first became a fan I was convinced he would never win over the Chinese and other Asian fans because of the hard feelings still there over the war and history's long dark grasp. Especially as two of his major rivals on the ice and for fannish hearts and minds were a Chinese-Canadian, then a Chinese-American. And yet, he's become the most popular skater in China, even over their own, let alone everyone else.

I am so sorry. I'm adding you to my list of people I am sending karmic good thoughts to for 2021. It will be a slow recovery for the world, but we all hope that it will get better next year, and that our Yuzuru will be as rewarded as he deserves for the happiness he gives.

I'd say both - without any blame to him, Shoma was in my opinion the one they wanted to win, and he was still to come (so they didn't know he would fall) so they were hyper-eager to find errors in Yuzu's skate. Not saying they deliberately faked the error, but I do think they saw what they wanted to see. But the rest of LMEY, and the brilliance of H&E (for all Yuzu himself was unimpressed with his own step sequence ) meant they had to give him the marks. And if you add that back in (he won't let it happen again) and GOEs to compensate, and then look at what he can get when both programs are burnished (I thought H&E was transendant, but never underestimate Mr Hanyu's drive to improve)...

What occurred to me was when listening to him talk about the "light at the end of this dark tunnel" is that this is the second time Yuzuru has been called on to be an icon and exemplar during a disaster with people suffering and in pain. There have been other figure skating icons (Yuna) and other sporting icons in Japan itself, but most haven't had to step up and speak up like this during disaster once, let alone twice. That teenage boy who ran out from a collapsing ice rink, and now the mature young man who has been through so many highs and lows... no one could blame him for being tired of the pressure, putting himself and his safety first just once and letting someone else be that icon. But he doesn't. Please excuse the rhetoric, but it came to me and I got that catch in the back of my throat, and had to say it. Here, where people will understand.
