Random thought: I would like to see Mr Hanyu skate to something like “Earned It” by the Weekend. The entire song would be too slow, but it would be different, and it would take a person of great self assurance, natural sensuality and seamless fluidity to pull it off and right now, IMO, he’s got it all. And in UA. Ill see myself out...

H&L feels so Japanese to me. I can’t explain it.

I'm a skating imbecile but I love, love, love the entry into his 3A. He sorta sways from side to side and then he flies! I first noticed it watching the 2017 Hope and Legacy in Helsinki-- for some reason I was watching the Swedish commentary and the lady literally drawled out something in Swedish, and the subtitle was "The way he does it..." She was...most appreciative. And since then I have loved his 3A. Cuz the way he does it.

Somewhere I saw a gif ( or maybe pic, but think gif) with a side by side comparison of the ending of the Ciontu Romeo and I think the 2012 Romeo where Yuzuru raises his arm and gives the #1 sign. Would it be too much to ask if someone could find it because the Ciontu Mr. Hanyu is SERVING FACE and I need to channel that for when I go back to work tomorrow. I would be most grateful, and I can’t be the only one who likes a good glare. Thank you!

I think it was on this thread, but someone said how they wish they had known of him back in 2009/10/11/12. I feel that “kuyashii” as well. How could this talent, this beauty, this lovely boy, develop and me not know about it? But if I dwell on it, I will be spending my time regretting what can’t be undone—he is simply not 17 and I simply did not know of him. And so I can just look upon his 23 year old self and my ( ahem) self and live a good life, as he would recommend. But at the risk of sounding like a pervert, my word he was beautiful. Still is, but geeze... 懐かしくて胸がキュンとする」 that means the nostalgia that makes my chest hurt? If so, yeah. わかった。

On YouTube there is a brief comment by a French commentator when the camera shows a close up of his face after he finished: his eyes were closed, he was dripping with sweat, gasping for air, absolutely radiant with youth and she said, “My god, that face.” Because he truly looked like the most beautiful, passionate, desperate youth one could imagine falling hopelessly in love. Good point: As long as Yuzuru is competitive, he can influence the sport. Truly, he is currently the strongest and most complete skater out there. He is the bridge between the artistic and technical, if he leaves now, there is a good chance things will become imbalanced I have no personal insight, but like Micaelis wrote, he may not want to leave until his vision for the sport is realized. Then he will be “satisfied.”

The back cross rolls at :30 are absolutely feral and may I say it’s just the sexiest thing. (Im sorry, not trying to objectify him but....the eye likes what the eye likes.)

Perhaps this is a little heavy for a new member, but I attended my church/temple today, and the speaker talked about how we have one life, and in this life if we give our all, with gratitude, then maybe it will move other people to live fully and with compassion. And I suddenly thought of Mr Hanyu giving his all, and the happiness it brings to others and the kindness and generosity of the people on this site who work hard ( but with pleasure, I think) to translate, encourage others ,etc. And in the end, we are all better for it. End of heavy message. Lol.

Yuzuru looks so, so cute. And Mrs Hanyu must be rather tall?

There is a Japanese saying: A strong/skillful hawk hides its talons. I’ve seen different translations but I believe the gist of it is, there’s no need to show your abilities until needed, until then be humble. Perhaps this is going on? Pure speculation on my part, just excited to have joined! My first real post!
