Hope Yuzu had plenty of fun visiting the earphone shop. It makes me happy to know he's doing his little things to make himself amused whenever & wherever possible. Having so much talent makes it almost like noblesse oblige. Yuzu doesn't owe anybody anything but it becomes a sort of condition for the people with particular talent that they owe it (to perform) to the gift itself. Some may call it a 'curse' but it's just a way it is. But outside skating, I sincerely hope Yuzu enjoys things like ordinary people. So much burden he carries and sometimes I almost feel like saying to him 'そんなに頑張らなくても大丈夫だよ' It must be my maternal instinct kicks in... Yuzu said he's not really into food or has strict diet like other athletes have. It must be his DNA on his mum's side that he's naturally quite slim and does not put on weight by eating whatever he fancies. Ajinomoto has been supporting Yuzu since 2013 in terms of setting meal plans and providing meals during training/competitions. They have also supported Team Japan during PC. I trust them while his mum's dedication is truly amazing, with professional & commercial company 's backing up, they don't need to worry about his nutritions as much as before. Just looking at Yuzu in the old costumes at CWW, I can see he has grown more muscles around his shoulders, chest, thighs and buttocks. His official weight now is 57kg? I'd say he's still very very slim but is filling out healthily. I thought weighing after breakfast is a bit strange but if he eats the same breakfast every morning, it'd makes sense. He must keep records of his weight and report it to his nutrition team so that they collect data on different effect of food or something. Athletes like Yuzu, the data they can produce would become very important to those involved. Not just these two who are scared...we're all scared in a way too but it'd be so good to have Yuzu back in the game again 'Business as usual Mr Hanyu?' Very soon we will need new emoticons with +5 GOE... I can't wait to see the first skater's score under the new rule. It must take a while for judges and the skaters (and the fans) to get used to the new ways. I kind of know how +5 GOE should look like (in a shape of Yuzu's 3A of course) but I wonder how -5 GOE disaster would look like...it has to be spectacular in that sense too

Everyday I see pictures or videos of Yuzu that I've never seen before. I'm amazed by the sheer amount of media relating to Yuzu on the internet He is definitely the most photographed & videoed figure skater (or athlete) in the world... And funny thing is, when I google searched Yuzu photos, the one that I liked was linked back to the PH

Hanyu sensei!! Don't call yourself 'ossan'! You will never become 'ossan'... maybe 'ojisama'?
-
It's not mine so I don't know but the colour did remind me of H&L and that's why I liked it

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR PLANET !!!! And Yuzu, thank you so much for being who you are! I am so happy to be a part of Hanyu cluster! Admins, mods and fellow satellites, I cannot thank all of you enough

Spread the love... Yuzu has given the word 'trash bag' a whole new meaning...

Don't go back to the moon or the forest just yet! Please let your spell work a bit longer while we dream...

Well we've got the geological advantage in terms of time zone with Japan so as long as the activities are happening in Japan, we can enjoy it in real time. The camera work for CiONTU was supposed to be done by TV Asahi. I remember in my viewing experience of Yuzu's Etude 2011 Rostelecom Cup Asahi broadcast version, the camera either followed his legs/arms or got really close to his face/head... I sometimes wonder if the cameraman casually shot whatever he liked and just broadcasted that without editing or was it actually been selected from few different shots to be shown as the best angle? I believe it is like figure skating itself, camera work for fs needs to have technical skills as well as artistic ability.
-
Oh are you also Australian resident then? Yes Belinda's commentary was not bad (I liked her 'liquid gold' expression) but this Olympics camera work for figure skating was poor. I was so disappointed that they shot Yuzu's Bielleman on CLOSE UP! They should have studied his EX performance before hand. No I'm not accepting your apology Olys!

「大丈夫です」can be translated to 'You're fine' or 'I'm fine' or 'That's fine' and in Japanese, it can be used without needing the subject (I, You, or this/that/it). And Yuzu in this case must meant as @yude translated. But since Yuzu must have been talking to Valentina in English, what were the actual words that Yuzu said in English? The original conversation between the two in English that's been translated into Japanese then being translated back to English... Has something got lost in translation somewhere? Sorry for double posting. I'm watching ladies SP as well now. And I did start watching men's FS when I first clicked (that was actually from Patrick's performance) and finished watching Yuzu's victory run about 20mins ago or so...it was Aussie channel 7 version (I actually live in Australia) That's strange but the live streaming is different depending on the location??

I was going to post the first part of this at FaOI thread but found @xeyra's post about @yude's translation so I decided to post here. I was wondering what programs is Yuzu going to use for FaOI. If he's recycling more programs from the past, I want LGC to be one of them. Having said that, I don't want Yuzu to push himself to include all the jumps, etc from the program. I think it is still too soon to do those big jumps. Yuzu's decision to do few ice shows during the off season before the preparation of next season is great. I'm really happy that we may get to see him skating as well as all the fluffs from the other skaters. But I know at the bottom of my heart, I want to see Yuzu in the competition environment more than anything. He thrives on the pressure and I believe that is the quintessential part of his skating as well as my fs experience of his skating. Yuzu said he performed better when he's injured. That may be true but he has to create the same mindset without getting actually injured!! The day Yuzu is satisfied with his skating may not come soon enough for BOrser's ever receding hairline...

I've read it and recalled immediately what Yuzu said in CiONTU in Q&A corner. The question was about which is more important for him when he performs different character in his various programs. Is it what he has inside or the obvious expression that others can see. His answer was that no matter how deep he dig inside of himself, even the things he wants to convey comes from somewhere very deep within, he said that it does not always be conveyed as he intends. It is because what people can feel or see depends on what they know about the performer's background. This writer said himself that he did not know Yuzu before PC. If he truly knew what Yuzu went through leading up to PC and all the hardships he has been facing throughout his career, I think he could relate to Yuzu a bit more. But he's made that connection with Tonya Harding's life. The guy may have a chip on the shoulder from his own life experience and that resentment had prevented him from relating to the gold medalist/the achiever. When I watch Yuzu's SEIMEI at PC, the two 'flaws' are the two glorious 'save' and tears fill my eyes. Thousands of fanyu's prayed day and night for his safe return and he brought us all what we've waited for. We knew about Yuzu's struggles really well but the writer does not share the same experience as us. I think he wanted to say that hardships can take away people's dignity but there was this golden moment that Tonya had created when she landed a triple-axel and that glory cannot be taken away even by her most notorious fs incident of the 20th century. The writer clearly stands in the dark place and looking at the two golden moments of fs. Tonya, too, fell to the dark place and that is what the writer can relate to. He sees struggle in the tarnished gold of Tonya's and does not see it in Yuzu's. He wishes a gold medal for his struggles, that's what I see. Perspective of something depends on stand point so if people who know some back ground about the subject see things differently to you, that doesn't mean what you see is invalid and visa versa.

I don't think this is for 2018 show. BS Asahi hasn't announced anything or FaOI site itself. If they're going to broadcast, they would definitely put the info on their site. This person must have seen the old info from 2017 thinking it for 2018.

Aww I love to see Yuzu in this suit... The difference is the size of the face! Also did you guys know Tanaka's first name Keiji (刑事) means police. People call him 'Deka (cop)' because of that. But they were rather casual about it tho. It was totally different to the conversation with the emperor. It was almost like: Abe: (How about) Beijing? Yuzu: Am...not sure yet

Well well, we have been busy here haven't we? While I am not an expert in men's kimono, I can still borrow Dr Google's expertise so I will just put some explanation from various web sites. First of all, the emperor's garden party was held in daytime, so the dress code for ladies included day-dress (long or 3/4 sleeves) with no sparkles, shiro-eri mon-tsuki (white collar kimono with crests), iro-tomesode or houmon-gi. For gentlemen, they will have to be in morning coat, mon-tsuki haori bakama (紋付羽織袴 = haori jacket with crests & hakama), uniform (military, police, etc), or suit. And for colour of haori jacket with crests (紋付羽織), formal one must be black made with habutae silk (黒羽二重) with five crests (五つ紋). For hakama (袴), usually in either brown or black made with Sendai-hira-silk (仙台平 - Yuzu's home town is known for this) or other silk and in stripes. Though colour is not limited to these two, plain colour with no stripes are not considered as formal. So colour other than black in haori & hakama is not formal. Hakama only is definitely not formal. Black haori jacket with 5 crests, nagagi (kimono underneath the jacket) and hakama, 3 pieces comprise men's formal kimono. Yuzu could wear mon-tsuki haori bakama with his family crests but that would be a tall order because a suit is much easier for walking around but if you wear hakama, you also need to wear zouri (草履=sandals) which is kind of difficult to walk around. We all know Mr Hanyu on ground is very different to Mr Hanyu on ice... When Yuzu spoke with the emperor, his wording was not so much different to the ones that he uses at official press conferences. The difference is more to do with the tone he used. It was much gentler with ending each sentences without strong punctuations. His speech was calm, soft and he avoided strong wording. Showing no aggression (towards yourself & others) is very important in this case. (I thought Yuzu must be talking to his grandma like that...) One phrase he used that was more formal than usual is '~omotte orimasu/orimashita' (思っております/おりました) around 3:22~ on the video. 'orimasu' (おります) is a kenjo-go (謙譲語) which is a phrasing form to show respect by lowering oneself (the speaker) to elevate the other (the listener). Someone at the studio of this video mentioned that it is rather long time the emperor had spent talking to Yuzu and I think the emperor seemed genuinely interested in what Yuzu has to say. Well done young man! We are all proud of you so much!

But Yuzu has to become Mr Axel McQuad first tho
-
Mr McSwan sounds cute and somewhat reminds me of chips/potato crisps (McCoy's) or buiscuits (McVieties) He will become Mr McQuad one day
-
Thanks. Is there a particular reason for it? It sounds Celtic so I jam just curious

Not sure if this has been posted here before...

Thank you so much for the translation. I am always interested in Yuzu interviews/speech being translated in English to compare with the Japanese original (to learn more natural English expression). Your translation is great in terms of not losing the nuance of the original. The part that you couldn't pick up the words because the empress voice was so soft, I think she said '見事に舞って下さいました' or '見事に勝って下さいました'. So it's either 'You danced so splendidly' or 'You superbly won'. It make sense in either way as Japanese.

He would look good in Paul Smith suit but then you can't beat UA. I guess Hanyu style doesn't include fitted suit
-
Also Mr Habu's wife is a fanyuShe has her own blog which sometimes get filled with photos of Yuzu... ETA: It's not a blog but it's actually a twitter ac.

I know what you mean. White looks gorgeous on Yuzu that's for sure. If there's a war between white and purple, an army of angels would descend from the sky to help Yuzu the White. And for Yuzu the Purple, the lord of darkness would rise from the hell...I think I watched too many LoTR or GOT... And many people here must know this by now but the purple LGC costume reminds many Japanese this... --->>

Can I just ask this...what's McSwan face??
