I miss rock Yuzu Fingers crossed we'll see something rock-esque in the realm of Vertigo or Hello I Love You (sans the shiny black pants please) in the upcoming season! I made a gif of the little smile before the FS 6 minute warm up at the Olympics because I could not stop replaying it and it's still driving me crazy...

Yuzu skating to American music during practices is my favourite thing right now. There's a fancam on YouTube of Yuzu doing the Seimei step sequence and Kendrick's DNA is blaring in the back... So good. Time to scour the ACI practice vids for Yuzu skating to said song...

I'm so pumped for his talk shows! So glad he's the type who loves to talk because it means more content for us.

Eh, I wouldn't worry too much about Korean forums. I follow K-pop and Korean comments can be ridiculously brutal sometimes for no logical reason. Also, there's still a lot of political tension between Korea and Japan, especially with all the history between them and the WW2 controversies and Dokdo etc. That's why I wouldn't take whatever is happening on the Korean forums seriously. The hate isn't about Yuzu personally or even figure skating. At the root of it all is a much bigger geo-political issue. Don't worry, he has plenty of Korean fans to defend him- remember all the flower girls at 4CC and even at this Olympics that were fawning over him?

I believe in him but we all know how hard he pushes himself. I mean, he did try to compete at Worlds despite the state of his ankle. But if these ice shows are later on in June/July, it should be fine. He would have gotten a good few months of rehab by then, I hope.

For sure! I don't think he's careful in the sense that he's scared of the media, but more so in the sense that he knows just how manipulative they can be so he's not going to let them get away with it if he can help it.

I don't think Yuzu really lurks all that much, I think it's more that he's very aware of the impact of his words and how what he says can be interpreted. He's certainly wary about what he says. When I watch old Yuzu interviews from when he was in his early teens he's definitely a lot more unfiltered than he is now where he really takes his time to answer questions. The difference is pretty stark. Maybe he's had some bad experiences with the media in the past? I'm not sure. I mean, the way he dodged the marriage/family question in his JNPC conference was next-level But it was also kind of sad to see that he can't be as frank or direct as he might like, that he has to be vigilant about what he says because his words will be recorded and brought up and interpreted over and over again.

I saw an older video about Japanese fanyus last week and there were a pair of elderly Japanese ladies watching Yuzu's Olympic FS. One of them was wearing a full Pooh costume I think he'd find it hilarious lol

I'd love to see it up close one day in an exhibit I really appreciate how Yuzu and his designer kept working on it over the years because it looks way better now than the 2015 version

Adam probably got favoured not because of his skating but because of his work for the LGBTQ+ community. Also, the American media is head over heels for him right now, and maybe Time decided that they only have space for one figure skater. The other thing could be that maybe the Japanese fanyus didn't know about the Time list? Obviously Yuzu definitely deserves to be on there, but it's not a massive deal if he's not. He's going to be one of the most celebrated skaters for a very long time- a spot on the Time 100 is pretty inconsequential compared to all that Yuzu has achieved.

True, it could be way worse, like have you guys seen post modernism? Such a hot mess. It's not that bad but it doesn't capture Yuzu properly. The strokes are too harsh imo and the proportions are also off.

Btw guys, I think the dates for CoR and IdF are mixed up on the first page. Which means I probably won't be able to go to IdF because my dumb supplementary final exam is on Nov 16...

Did you guys watch Mirai's first vlog on YouTube? Sounds like she's trying to start a channel. I found it really eye opening when she spoke about the psychological impact of media-attended practices. I wonder if the same holds true for open practices before comps? I also wonder how other skaters deal with media scrutiny, particularly in the lead up to competitions. Ideally they would mentally block out any media presence during practice and avoid social media, but I guess that's easier said than done.

I would be very surprised if Yuzu didn't have female friends. Beyond figure skating, he's a pretty normal well-adjusted person. As far as "polite hands" go, it might have been because Alina was wearing a pretty revealing costume and he was being courteous of that. It's very normal in the west to hug/touch while taking photos, and Yuzu has taken photos with sooo many people that he's probably gotten used to it. It's really not a big deal lol.
