  1. I can't imagine Yuzu as an ossan In my head, he'll always look like he does now. I suspect he's going to be one of those people that just never visibly age, like Pharrell Williams
  2. Found it and I can't stop laughing Everything about it is perfect, from Kikuchi-san loling in the back to Yuzu frantically hosing down his fringe
  3. Omg I need to see that for myself If I can find it, I'll link the video here
  4. I'm actually super curious about how he preps right before competitions. I know most female figure skaters do their own makeup and hair, but I have no clue about the men. I'd love love love to see Yuzu doing his hair for LGC
  5. Omg I can't It's a ranking for celebrities who have super glowy, transparent and clear skin Yuzu loses to no one, even in the skin department Here's the list: 1. Yui Aragaki (Yuzu's celebrity crush ) 2. Kanna Hashimoto 3. Haruka Ayase 4. Yuzuru Hanyu 5. Mai Shiraishi 6. Alice Hirose 6. Haruka Igawa 6. Mei Nagano 9. Eri Fukatsu 10. Rena Nounen
  6. Perfectionism is like that You struggle hard and achieve great things in the process but the trade off is that often you haven't achieved your goal of perfection. It reminds me of the saying 'Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you'll land among stars'. What Yuzu may consider 'not enough' is amazing in our eyes. But it's precisely because of his drive for perfection that he's been able to produce such ground breaking performances. The second you become content is really the moment that you'll stop pushing yourself. Nothing gives you a bigger kick in the butt than falling short of a goal. I think what sets Yuzu apart is his thirst for perfection. He genuinely enjoys the process of continuously jumping hurdles. A lot of perfectionists struggle with a fear of failure and may lack drive because of that (and procrastinate like myself lol) but Yuzu doesn't appear to. He dives in head first.
  7. Turtleneck hands down! I really don't like V-necks, never have. But Yuzu looks amazing in turtlenecks- his practice tops are mock necks which is a kind of turtleneck and I know we all feel some type of way when we see Yuzu in his UA gear By the way guys, could we put all the clips of Yuzu's single jumps in a compilation thread? It would be good for any skating fanyus and also just for general appreciation since he's such a good jumper.
  8. Could you post the single toe loop video? I'd love to see it (sorry about the double post!)
  9. Me three. IdF is the only GP comp I can make it to Sounds like a legit rumour to me but I guess we'll see.
  10. How about some hunny? Or maybe some rice
  11. Thanks guys Yet another rookie question! What sort of exercise do you guys do off the ice to help with skating? Im going to try getting my splits this year and I'm also thinking of doing some basic core exercises because I've heard that also helps with skating. Any other pointers would be super appreciated!
  12. I'll come back and translate this properly if anyone wants it, but for now I'll give a summary. Nobu is talking about how a really important skill figure skaters need to have is 'recovery' ie the ability to make up for any missed jumps by changing the layout on the spot. He says Yuzu is amazing at this and uses the PC free as an example. Yuzu was meant to do a combo jump (4T1Lo3S) but only landed the 4T. To compensate he changed his 3A+2T to a 3A1Lo3S off the cuff.
  13. Thanks guys! Im still very very basic (I'm talking swizzles) but from the sounds of it, whenever I start doing crossovers is a good place to start. I could probably alternate private coaching + group lessons each week so it's not too expensive.
  14. Hey guys, another beginner question. At what point did you start private lessons? I'm doing group lessons at the moment and the program takes you up to single jumps and basic spins. But I've heard a lot of people start private coaching before that. I know private coaching is really good but it's kinda pricey ($50+ for 30min) so I'm reluctant to jump to it straight away.
  15. I actually think Yuzu still has a similar music taste tbh. All the Jpop and Jrock he listens to before comps are songs he actually likes. I do think he would have broadened his musical tastes by now for the sake of improving his programs. I mean, he was the one that picked Seimei and sent it to Shae-Lynn. I doubt Yuzu is classically trained. His appreciation for other kinds of music is something that only grew through FS, particularly in the last few years.
  16. Omg my friend had Invisalign too and she kind of sounded like that sometimes. I'm thinking he probably took them out for competitions but wore them every other day, which is why it's hard to gauge how long he wore them for. Case closed
  17. From what I've gathered, his father is a teacher/vice principal. I think his family was financially stable since they were able to afford figure skating when Yuzu's sister started. And yep, his sister stopped skating so Yuzu could continue (surprisingly, Javi's sister also gave up skating for financial reasons so Javi could continue). FS becomes more expensive the higher up you go so it makes sense they couldn't afford to have both Yuzu and his sister pursuing FS.
  18. No wonder! I was watching this interview and noticed his voice sounded totally different (timestamped below!)
  19. This was pre-TCC Yuzu so his tastes might have changed, but in the 2012 interview he said he doesn't listen to classical music at all. He meant listening for leisure though. I'm sure he would have gotten plenty of exposure to classical music through programs. Seems like he has always liked band music e.g. HiFi Camp and One Ok Rock. Maybe his sensitivity to sound (+ his earphones obsession) is something that blossomed post 2012? I totally agree with you on the blade sound thing- TCC was definitely responsible. That's why I found that interview interesting, because it made me realise TCC played a significant role in raising the quality of his skating. He might have gone in to get more consistent quad jumps, but he came out with so much more and I think that definitely played a factor in why he stuck with TCC all these years.
  20. Some more fun facts I've picked up from 2012 interviews that I thought you guys might find interesting Yuzu says he sucks at basketball and soccer. He's alright with baseball because of his father (I think his father plays? Not sure). He says he can never get the basketball in the ring lol He only listens to J-pop but a lot of people think he listens to classical music He's the type of person that can't practice if no one is watching. He likes an audience. One of the things he aims to improve about his skating is skating without noise (Interestingly, I think there were some ACI fan accounts floating around on this forum that said Javi and Yuzu make almost no noise when they land jumps) He's not a picky or fussy eater, but not to the extent that he can eat anything. He eats when he wants, and doesn't eat when he doesn't feel like it His classmates describe him as serious and the 'god of tests' (This one is from a 2010 interview) His signature actually incorporates 'wings' (Also from the 2010 interview- I've always wondered what the squiggle was for ) By the way, does anyone know if and when Yuzu got braces? He had pretty prominent buck teeth up to 2011, but they randomly disappeared in his 2012 appearances.
  21. Speaking of butterflies, I can't remember where but there was an interview/conference where he described himself as slowly emerging from a chrysalis (does anyone know which interview I'm talking about?)... All these bug references and metaphors suddenly make sense now
  22. So I've been trawling through Yuzu's older interviews and I came across this: He said his favourite summer insect was an atlas beetle. The boy is obsessed with bugs
  23. Yuzu's like wth is wrong with these people
  24. Omg that sounds like it could be the premise for a mobile phone game It should be called 'Pooh Sweeper'
  25. Is there an option to bribe Yuzu with Pooh plushies?
