I guess so, also most fans voting will likely be from China (doesn’t the fan club on weibo have something like 200k fans?) so any attempt at strategy would go right out the window.

Oh that’s right. Sorry, was thinking of the selection process which is split between jury, media, ISU, and fan votes. https://isu.org/figure-skating/isu-skating-awards ETA public can only vote for 4 categories and as Yuzu isn’t a newcomer, we can only vote for him in 3: 1. Most Valuable Skater 2. Best Costume 3. Most Entertaining Program 4. Best Newcomer I have a feeling some teams got a heads up about the best costume and that’s why we suddenly have some costume changes mid program. I doubt Yuzu can win that category this time. Probably they’ll give most entertaining program to Nathan’s FS judging by the scores this season so @quadaxelwin if we concentrate on one category I agree it’d have to be MVS.

It’s so poetic I can’t handle it!
-
Skate America is the rowdiest competition in the GP series and Yuzu hasn’t skated there since 2012. Lambiel also had giant Swiss cowbell rattling fans.
-
@quadaxelwin They’ve already thought of a way around counting fanyu votes and that’s by giving less weight to votes from the skater’s home country. Finally, the commentators misidentifying hoards of Chinese fanyus as Japanese and passing over non-Asian fanyus will pay off for everyone! There’s nothing else in the information published that would give them any reason to ignore our votes. Hopefully they will publish the number of votes as well but it’s ISU so... Honestly, the ridiculousness of opening up this popularity contest in the first place (though I believe Yuzu deserves to win several of the awards due to his own merits) will be shown up in the first awards show if Yuzu does win everything and also if Yuzu doesn’t win everything.

Ward off the backstabbers

It’s so close to 4CC and WC, too. OTT but it’s amazing that Shoma managed to win a major international bronze, silver, and gold in less than a month.
-
I had no idea about this event. Shoma won last time? I’ve never even heard his medal mentioned! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure_skating_at_the_2017_Asian_Winter_Games

Anyway hope he gets a nice 10 seconds of love.

I saw a poll and a discussion, not a final decision. I also saw that they were going to contact organisers for advice, not to have them organise something official. I was also told by my friend that many fans thought they were trying to involve ISU directly and were against it for that reason as well. Maybe not everyone misunderstood but some definitely did and changed their minds once they realised ISU would not be involved. Someone also tried to spread false information about Yuzu having refused an airline acknowledging his birthday in the past (it was actually acknowledging his victory in Helsinki WC.) Sending opinions is fine. That’s what the account was asking for in the first place. Going overboard calling fans egotistical and comparing birthday songs to racism and politics wasn’t. ETA I didn’t mean to suggest that particular account misunderstood anything.

Johnny has since said not even a clean a Yuzuru Hanyu can beat Nathan (commentary during the FS at US Nationals last season) and that was followed by the scandalous scoring in Saitama... ...but what can we do about this PCS/GOE lucky dip? The good news is, as we’ve heard from Brian, Yuzu only needs 10 days to peak and he’s done it injured before and at the Olympics, no less.
-
Hope they get an apology and not just a lot of “I’m glad you’re not doing what you weren’t going to do anyway.”
-
Birthday thing.
-
Iirc currently competing skaters aren’t eligible for lifetime achievement and it’s not open for public voting.
-
I just saw someone suggest he got a home ice advantage at NHK. These comments are an Christmas present.
-
Someone just ask Tracy for an okay so we can move onto more pressing issues like how he is being treated by ISU, JSF, and the media, please.

Italy is not Japan and Yuzu’s fans aren’t all Japanese so expecting them to behave just as Japanese fans do and in their own home is a lot. Yuzu has spent a third of his life living outside Japan and worked with people from many different countries so I think he has a thick enough skin and enough understanding of the outside world to be able to endure a happy birthday, for crying out loud. As if top athletes are so mentally fragile that a 10 second birthday song would make or break them. All I’ve seen is people wanting to sing after practice and going out of their way to make sure other skaters aren’t disturbed (and running a poll in the first place to make sure they find the best solution, too) so I find this whole thing frankly completely ridiculous.

“Two time OGM Yuzuru Hanyu spontaneously combusts during a 10 second rendition of Happy Birthday after practice. “The strongest mind in sports history was no match for the lighthearted tradition of mild embarrassment that befalls each of us once a year.”

She’s been ill and injured on and off for the past two seasons and has been struggling to adjust to her first year at university. I hope this is a sign that her condition is good and I hope her good condition lasts.

nearly 3 years since we last saw it. Praying that the jump-blind judges will finally give her the PCS she deserves.
