Yes, Yuzu put both hands down at the same time in 3F. In Patrick's 3A, both of his hands touched the ice but not concurrently. However, Patrick also put both hands down **at the same time** in his 4T. To me, the distinction is very small, and Yuzu lost 1pt, but Patrick didn't. My feeling is that Patrick got a slight advantage here. Fortunately, it didn't affect the ranking.

It looks like Yuzu put two hands down and Patrick only one, so maybe that's it? I am not well-versed in how the judges decide things so maybe someone else with more knowledge than me could weigh in

His FS in Sochi was not as polished as his later ones, yet still at a higher level than that of other skaters. The 4T is gorgeous. The spins are beautiful. I have another related question. Please refer to the video below. I’m wondering why Yuzu’s 3F at 39:37 was judged as a fall and received a 1-point deduction, while Patrick’s 4T at 30:53 and 3A at 31:08 did not, even though all three jumps involved both hands touching the ice and neither skater’s buttocks touched the ice. Under the current rule, a fall is defined as a situation in which “the majority of his/her own body weight is on the ice, supported by any part of the body other than the blades, e.g. hand(s), knee(s), back, buttock(s), or any part of the arm.” To me, the loss of balance on Yuzu’s 3F looks very similar to Patrick’s on his 3A. That’s why I’m confused about why Patrick’s 3A did not receive the same 1-point deduction, and maybe his 4T as well.

Wow! This costume has such an interesting backstory! And Satomi Ito has quite an imagination! No wonder she is so creative when it comes to designing costumes. Now, I'm waiting for her to write a fantasy novel inspired by Yuzu.

I seem to recall there was more time between them. I mean, most skating competitions have events on consecutive days, but for big events like the Olympics they often alternate disciplines (eg, dance RD& women's SP one day, pairs & mens SP the next, then back to women & dance, etc) so that there's a full 24 hours between events for individual skaters, but a lot depends on the broadcast schedule, too, especially if it's going to be shown live. I think the issue with Sochi was that the turnaround time between the SP and the free skate was less than 24hrs. But it was also the first Olympics of the so-called quad revolution, where men were attempting multiple quads per program, and the scoring at that time didn't penalize jump errors the same. So men were jumping in a quite YOLO way and, predictably, missing a lot of the attempts. Lots of popped jumps, lots of splatting onto the ice.

I've just discovered this very important fact : we only see the performance and don't actually know the schedule... Also, parts 3 and 4 are available here in the video section.

I love watching all his preformances whether they are clean or not. I spend way too much time in the video archive looking at his different skates.
