Hi there.

I don't know if this would help, but for both sit spins and uprights, maybe you can try to hold your arms out a bit differently. The way most people enter into the spins, during the wind-up edge before you step in, you would have your right arm out and back a bit further, and your left arm swinging to be in front of you right? Instead of winding-up your arms, maybe hold your arms out in a rounded 160-180 degree. Kind of like you are holding a giant giant beach ball/balloon on your left side. In short, your arms are going to be open on your left side, not winding up.

It was how I learned my sit spins. XD And it helps a bit with holding the step-in edge to a good half circle before I start spinning. I also find it easier to center too.

This advice helped me today :tumblr_inline_n18qr5lPWB1qid2nw:

For the first time I was able to enter a decent upright spin

Well actually with sals taking off after 0.25-0.5 rotations is normal, it's supposed to be 0.25ish. AFAIK that just comes in time with more practice and stuff. I think the mark on the ice on takeoff should look like a J with a little toe pick mark at the end when you take off. It doesn't look like you take off completely forward? Anyway it looks good!

Thanks! I guess I’ll need to practice more. This is one out of two decent sals I landed today and I was just lucky to be filmed right then lol

Thanks xD yeah I actually use that arm positioning when I first learned the entry to the spin and I think my spins were more stable but then I wanted to do the windup because that's how real skaters did it LOL but you know, I should go back to it again just to get better at the entry and centering. Thanks :tumblr_inline_mm2wbaeqQM1qz4rgp:

Ah, I didn't know that you learned all your spins that way. I didn't, and a lot of teachers here don't teach that. The issue I found with some of the students just learning spins, is if they do the proper wind-up, what they usually do is that they raise or hunch their shoulders when entering into the spin-right as they lift their free leg up for the first position, their shoulder moves, becomes uneven, unbalanced, and that throws everything off. The beach ball/balloon image, even if you wind up you can try to hold it a bit more rounded, is to help keep your arms even and prevent shoulders rising.

The basics of the sal look alright, and more importantly you got the rhythm right for the launch. =) With time and a bit more speed and guts, you should be able to launch up for a bigger salchow.

Edit: you guys have guts to get your skating filmed. I'm such a coward. XD

Thanks, I’m glad to hear that :tumblr_inline_ncmif5EcBB1rpglid:

And LOL this time only worked bc my brother was recording (to show my mother who hasn’t seen me skate yet). I can’t for the life of me do well while being filmed usually lol

Remember how I had "just a little bit of a cold" and I was gonna power through because ice time is precious and all that?
Yeah, that little cold had me off the ice for over 2 weeks in the end :13877886:
I didn't completely start back from 0, but I lost a lot of progress nonetheless :sadPooh:

Sorry to hear that :13877886: backwards progress is so so frustrating but I’m sure you’ll regain it soon

Sorry to hear about your predicament :(
Is there any chance of getting another coach for the rink?

Oh no oh noo I’m so sorry to hear that :13877886:

Well, I had my first class this week and I’ve learned by myself until now.... it’s not ideal but it’s possible to learn on your own

Move if you can!! :tumblr_inline_ncmif5EcBB1rpglid:

Actually I wish I can learn myself but I can't because if I learn wrong nobody can corrected me, this is why I don't try to learn myself. Also I afraid from injuries.

I wish I can move but I don't know is it possible  :tumblr_inline_ncmifiE3IT1rpglid:.I will try to change my school in a big city when schools are over for this year...:10742290:

After that let down of seemingly forgetting everything I learned last week, this week has been pretty amazing, I feel like I’ve made as much progress in just a few days as I have since I started skating

Finally managed the spin entry and a couple revolutions without falling over, a somewhat acceptable spiral, suddenly “got” 3 turns inside and outside....

I’m just so happy and motivated right now, I hope it’ll last <3
