According to twitter it's not the first time he wears it, i think the first time they saw that necklace was two years ago.

My first impulse was to say maybe a special good luck charm then, but he wouldn't really need that during ice shows.

My imagination kicking in, my question would be: maybe someone gave it to him before Sochi as a good luck charm, and as it worked, he's wearing it "on the road to <censored>"?

So there is no proof it was ever seen earlier? At all, I mean.

 

It's also not the style he would personally choose.

Actually we still have a question about that necklace. Assuming he first wore it in Makuhari (at least that's the first photo we can clearly see it), it can still be a new amulet...
