- the ILM is essential navigational equipment that literally doesn't work unless placed at the end of a runway. I'm seeing a lot of X posts saying that the 'wall at the end of the runway' (the ILM) was the problem... but there is literally no other way the runway could have been built.

I heard one of those experts on TV saying that the wall at the end of the runway was made out of concrete and that was the problem. In modern airports, concrete walls should no longer be allowed. Also that the stopway was way too short and didn't really fulfil its purpose of reducing the speed of a crashing plane, meaning that the material was not adequate. Had it worked, it would have looked something like this: https://i.sstatic.net/XhrYg.jpg

I have a feeling the airport (not the airline) will be under intense scrutiny from hereon.

Personally I think it's strange that the fire spread so rapidly from the engine and affected the landing gear controls so quickly. Boeing will probably have some explaining to do

It's just so horrible and sad.....they will find the cause, but it looks like a hydraulic problem on top of a burning engin problem both caused by bird collision on top of a on side problem.....

Spoiler

You know, it might be wrong, but to me it always feels like if one plane crash/accident happens, there always happens another one not too soon after.....It's like there is a long time where nothing happens (thankfully), but when one plane goes down for whatever reason, it won't be the only one. At least it always feels like this to me, and thats really sad and kind of scary....

@Faithyu

Spoiler

Well, there's already been 4 this week. This one with Jeju Air, the Azerbaijani Airlines that got clipped by a Russian missile and somehow managed to land mostly safely in Kazakhstan, a KLM flight skidded off a runway (only minor damage), and an Air Canada Dash 8 had one side of the landing gear collapse after touching down in Halifax.(again, just minor damage)

But weird to have so many at once, but then again the Azerbaijani Airlines one was more a case of them being unlucky

My dad, who traveled a lot, said that they happen in threes.    And that it's always safest in the back of the plane.  Fingers crossed for me that I get n my flight from Seoul to SFO on Sunday.

Not just Boeing - they wouldn't have made the engines.  That will be Roll Royce or another company.  Boeing does not manufactur their own engines.

There has been a one week national period of mourning declared so no Tae birthday related content and all scheduled music and variety shows will not be happening.  The Korea Herald says that k-pop stars have expressed condolences but I have seen only one.  I'm sure that they, like everyone in the country, are still in shock.

I know someone who worked on designing RR engines for aircraft and let's just say that between Boeing and RR, i'd put my money on Boeing-related things to be the source of any safety failure, simply based on company culture. But bird strikes can have unpredictable effects so who knows

I read about this.  BTS was performing for free and BigHit was fronting the cost of production.  Yoon has been corrupt from day one.  We know that BigHit can absorb the cost, but it's such BS. May he end up in prison -

Here's a nice post for Tae - (and I'm still freaked out about getting home...all everything is impacted by the week of mourning.  Fingers crossed....)]
