Thank you for the skating party :cheer: I felt the excitement of the competition all over again, the nerves :dpooh:. I'm so happy Yuzu was able to achieve his dream of a second gold medal and that I was already a fan to witness it. Also I'm again reminded of how strong he is :wink_star:

TRANSLATION OF YUZU'S PRESS CONFERENCE

While we wait for better translations of Yuzu's press conference of July 19, I did a quick machine translation with DeepL. Thankfully, the Asahi Shimbun Globe posted a full transcription of the press conference in Japansese, so I just copy/paste. Please read with some creativity as machine translations can be weird. I saved the translation, the full video conference, and the translations done by fans so far here:

Thank you very much for your post, @Geo1!  . . . . .

It reminds me of a tweet by the Finnish Figure Skating Association with the word "JAP" in it...

. . . . .
I also remember that there was a competition held in Western Europe where they used "JAP" on their result page. It was corrected the next day. I hope more people will be aware of this term :smiley-angelic001:

. . . . .

Hello, @Beatrice! Welcome to the Planet :welcome:

Thank you for your lovely first post and your sincere second post :10742289::10742288: It's so nice to see a new satellite joining the Planet even after Yuzu's announcement of him turning professional :tumblr_inline_nhkezmYSxk1qid2nw:

I join you Turquoise Bleue and how many times I have heard this "JAP" and even out of skating in normal conversation and now (and  :thanks: to GEO1 for the explanation) I would say that it is necessary to use full JAPANESE . . . . .

Thank you for the welcome :thanks:

I too am grateful to @geo1 for having pointed out my thoughtless blunder of that offensive abbreviation which should definitely never be used - I corrected my post accordingly.

I am not only sincerely sorry for having used it - even if unwittingly - but after a mostly sleepless night filled with tormenting thoughts I am still reeling with remorse for having hurt people's feelings, though unintentionally. Those who know me can attest to my being respectful and considerate of others' feelings, and I am anguished by the fact that here I seem to have acted the opposite, making a bad first impression and possibly hurting others in the process.

I am most honestly apologizing once again to all it concerns.

I think we've all understood that it wasn't intentional on your part, so don't blame yourself for that. In a forum with people from so many different countries, from so many different cultures, these things can happen mainly because of our ignorance. The most important thing is that we can talk and correct each other in a polite way like you and Geo1 have done. That says a lot about both of you in a positive way :agree2:

So please continue to enjoy the forum with no regrets :consoling2:

Ah, and welcome! :tumblr_inline_nhkezsTB3v1qid2nw:

Thank you, Anabel, for your welcome, your consoling and your kind words - they mean so much to me and I'm already feeling a bit less ashamed than before - thanks again :thanks:

:welcome: among us and you have Annie who is from the same country as you and you wrote that you knew Yuzu while watching the NHK 2019 gala and I laughed a lot when he had fun with the mascots . . . . . it's practically IMPOSSIBLE to find videos of this NHK on youtube . . . . . and yet I have seen some of this NHK (SP/FS/GALA) yes Yuzu who looks at Roman with a smile because he is taller than him with the Frenchman K Aymoz . . . . .

First, thank you for the welcome :thanks:
Sorry, in my introductory post I was not specific enough. It was the World Championships 2019 in Saitama where I first saw Yuzuru on TV in the exhibition gala performing his stunning "Haru Yo Koi" , and not the NHK Trophy 2019 in Sapporo. (German TV only broadcast Olympics, World championships and European championships, alas nothing of the Grand Prix series.)

But I did search for NHK Trophy 2019  videos and found these:

Men Free Skating | NHK Trophy 2019 (full competition + medal ceremony)
(Yuzu from 1:55:50 and again from 2:01:10; the funny scene with Roman is at 2:10:25; Yuzu again from 2:24:10)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWXF57mc9-A

Exhibition Gala | NHK Trophy 2019 (full 3+ hours)

(Yuzu's "Haru Yo Koi" at 2:56:40, then the gala finale with all skaters and Yuzuru having skating fun with the mascots, very cute  - watch from 3:13:00, at the very end another funny moment as Yuzuru has to delay shouting his trademark farewell "Arigatou gozaimashita" due to the rink commentator's verbosity)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRmdWEc231Q

[ENG SUB] Yuzuru Hanyu NHK Trophy 2019 Gala Interview - Shizuka's Room 191124
(really interesting interview, showcasing Yuzuru's inquisitive analytic mind and intelligence and thirst for knowledge)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-VdRYPwLnk

Yuzuru Hanyu (羽生 結弦) Funny/Cute Moments GP season 2019

(clips with mascots etc, very cute & funny)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzZKtGRvX7A

I hope these vids are available overall.

Please don't be so hard on yourself! :consoling2: You seem like a very sincere, honest, respectful and humble person just like our beloved Yuzu :tumblr_inline_nhkf04zUM41qid2nw:

I've seen and heard this word used even by some Japanese people living in Europe and some Europeans who love Japan and learnt Japanese. Things like this can happen to anyone and we all can learn something from each other :grouphug2:

Basically, the greatest of all time. No wonder he turned pro, there is no worthy rival for him anymore and the scoring system is insufficient/incapable of quantifying his talent. At his best ever and still peaking wow wow woooow

Totally agree. There is absolutely no question that he is the GOAT. He is finally done being compared to unworthy over-scored rivals and being unfairly judged in a scoring system specifically designed to diminish him. Yuzu, the genius, is finding a way, as a "professional athlete", to continue expanding his horizons as a competitive figure skater on his own terms, out of the reach of the ISU.

It is hard to believe, but notwithstanding all of his injuries and challenges, including an ongoing right ankle injury, Yuzu, at 27 years of age, is continuing to improve technically and artistically and there appears to be no end to the challenges he is prepared to take on. He is indeed continuing to peak.

We fans have a lot to look forward to.

Hey Beatrice, welcome to the forum!

You probably already checked our archive, but if there's a video you feel like it would make a nice addition feel free to post it there also!

Absolutely right :2thumbsup:

I very much hope that all his future programs/endeavours will be available to watch online and/or on DVD, for such fans like me who cannot travel anywhere to see him live - I'd gladly pay almost any amount to buy DVDs with Yuzu's future and also past appearances.

Hence I promise to refrain from cluttering this thread with further apologies :giggle:

Please don’t worry about it - on an international forum there are bound to be these cross cultural soft points - the great thing is to address them politely and respectfully as I think everyone has done
