Damn Sochi really gave Yuzu some important life lessons there. U can't rely on ur PCs alone, u need to have the tech too or else the youngsters will come snatching the medals.

Next year?

Brian: You don't need to add the 4a

Yuzu: Yeah, but that if I di-

The thing is... Brian seemed really excited when talking about 4A (who wouldn't be when he's probably seen Yuzu land nessie).

I was pretty positive Yuzu would not retire until he at least attempted the 4A in competition so the news isn't a surprise but it's always good to have more solid confirmation. Please can he try it in Milan :snonegai:

One last thing before I log off for awhile until NHK Trophy to take a leaf out of Yuzu's book and deal with RL tests/work. I came across this wonderfully written post today on Tumblr that really captured something beautiful and essential about Yuzu for me, which ties into all the talk about the 4Lz and pushing his limits.

I kind of just want to quote the entire post (pleaase go read it!) but the key things that jumped out at me:

Quote

He doesn’t buy into the idea of the defending champion. And he doesn’t believe in underestimating his rivals, all whom he sees as people he could learn from. As far as he is concerned, there are no medals to defend, only new medals to be won.

...

There are champions who stay in one place they consider good enough who then proceed to inevitably get surpassed at some point because in staying still, they become static goals. And then there’s Yuzuru Hanyu, who, like the rest gunning to overtake him, guns to overtake himself and in doing so, is a constantly moving goal. And for as long as he’s physically able to, he’ll keep moving.

No progress comes without stumbling blocks. Just like an arrow being pulled back by a bowstring, the further backwards it gets drawn, the further into the distance it gets launched. I doubt there is a figure skater out there right now who subscribes to this philosophy as staunchly as he does, nor is there one that embodies it as well.

While most of us are busy looking behind us, Hanyu steadfastly trains his gaze forward to look far ahead, only glancing back every so often to see how much the distance has increased between himself and others. And he’s only doing it so that he could increase it even more. He’ll always go for it as someone who wants victory and will work as though he’s never won before to get it, instead of someone who simply fends off others.

The writing style was really similar to ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (can't tag your name sorry!) so I'm wondering if I stumbled upon your tumblr (or if not, you have a very good writing imposter!): https://vspirit8.tumblr.com/post/166665052682/to-all-who-are-wondering-why-hanyu-does-what-he

Either way, full credits to the writer for such wonderful words <3

Don't know if this Every News segment has been posted here? Yuzu talks about his layout and the 4Lz in new footage I hadn't seen before:

Also, it's fun how the two past competitions where he's gotten silver, he's given the JP media something to focus on. First his SP WR, then his 4Lz.

I wonder if these are intentional PR moves by Yuzu and his team. I mean, technically they couldn't predict ACI's SP WR, but there Brian made sure they release the knee problem.

Either way, JP media has been tamed. Now, if only the other media would behave. A girl could always dream.

Hmmm but they also couldn't predict that Yuzu would land 4Lz successfully. I just take it that the skating gods are protecting Yuzuru by orchestrating these lucky coincidences. Or from a more humanist perspective - it is just that Yuzuru's talent and hard work will always bring him something good even if it's not the gold.

my tumblr dashboard is blessed today! I also came across a lengthy and detailed post on tumblr with many strong points about media in the last couple days. Some of her/his point I've already read in the forum, but still it's worth time reading as it covers so well what we have experienced

If it is intentional, then i think this is a very smart move. Say if he didn't add the 4lz, and loses the gold.. there would be SO MANY media and 'fans' backlash.

Since he changed the layout and added the lutz, even if he got the silver he was able to shut down some of the comments about him recycling. People know that a clean yuzu would win but no one knows yet what the new layout would give him. So even people cannot ultimately say that yuzu is old news because they know what he is capable of. Even at the COR, with a lot of mistake at the first! Competition he did quite well. Better than expected tbh. i had low expectations then.

And thats why even with the media hyping the other skaters, they know they gotta watch out for yuzu hence skaters comes out with a lot of quads just to have a chance to beat yuzu.

And the thing about yuzu, he is so unpredictable that you never know what could happen. Other people can pray that yuzu won't have a clean skate or whatnot but in the end.. but yuzu could just pull a great comeback or a clean back to back performance.

And for me, there are other skaters that can win over him no doubt esp shoma or nathan but that is when yuzu open the door for them. If he does that, then there's nothing to say about it. Sure i'll be sad but that is just normal in sport. Some win some loses.

Sorry for the rant. I got pissed at some people i saw on social media.
