Yuzuru would object, he has priority  But she can learn a few tricks already for him. You know the guy, she's gotta impress him

Landings, mechanics, etc of FS jumps
Joey replied to meoima's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Thank you so much for your great analysis and explanation! :goe: Maybe this is related, or maybe not - but to me, it often looks like Nathan also pitches forward on his landings. Seems to me like he lets his upper body drop in an uncontrolled manner and kind of "breaks" at the hips to save his landings/absorb the impact of the landing (this is IMO why he often doesn't have good flow out of his jumps). Does that make sense? ^^" (And he's not the only one doing that, some other skaters do it too  ) And I'm sorry we're kind of bombarding you with questions  -
I think Yu/Jin had so much chemistry together. Now they have 3 strong pairs so the switch worked in part, but I think Yu/Jin had much more potential together. That aside, love those photos, she's gorgeous  Glad to know I'm not alone in thinking Yu/Jin still had more potential. I absolutely loved them together, and while I see that the switch "worked out" as in medal and success prospects, I'd still love to have Yu/Jin back, simply for the selfish wish to see a pair that really has something special for me, not just one that "works". But in the end, I can't do anything but wish them all the best. I hope Peng/Jin continue to improve too, they're charming. And those pictures are just amazing. Xiaoyu has something so regal and "unreal" about her look, it's just stunning

At least in my impression, yes. But that's the ISU for you. Find a problem, make it worse! :acceptable:
-
yes of course. giving -3 to a clean jump is just impossibly ridiculous. i was just worried of him not checking that bullet. but even if he dont, he'll check other bullets and still get enough lol. it's yuzu after all, he'll get by some way. This reminds me: 1) unexpected / creative / difficult entry 2) clear recognizable (creative, interesting, original for jump preceded by steps/movements of the Short Program) steps/free skating movements immediately preceding element So.... what's the difference between these now for the SP? Err, actually, what was the difference between them before too (only for SP)... That's been a point of irritation as far back as I can remember, because it is quite often not easy to tell apart... generally, a good example would be a jump from a stand still (which nobody ever does, but bear with me). If a guy for example starts of with a 2A out of a stand still, right at the beginning, than that is definitely an unexpected and difficult entry, but it includes no steps. But in most cases, the difference between these bullet points is IMO rather slim and... very, very subjective. Personally, I often thought "standard entries", like a mohawk into a salchow, could be counted as 2) but not as 1). But that looks less the case to me now with that new addition... Man, ISU. Everytime one of their rule looks lacking and useless to me, they manage to make it worse.

Team we're fewer but still good!
Joey replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Igloo World: Team Other Skaters
Yep, that 3 quad layout is not a good layout strategically in my point of view... but Javi seems to think very differently then me, and in the end, he has to go with whatever seems to work for him. If he has that -3T3Lo combo down already, it might still make sense to go for that next season over 4 quads, which he might have never practiced until this point. The point is, there is not much BV increase with a 4th quad if you can maximize the 3 quad version (similar to discussion regarding Yuzu and 4 quads vs 5). -
Well, I'm german, guess I have to go with a cowbell then... :hachimaki: I would tend to agree with you. Javier Fernandez used to have his height listed as 175 cm in his ISU biography, but it has now been changed to 173 cm which is probably the correct height. Although people can argue ad nauseum about whether or not Yuzuru is taller or shorter or the same height as Javier, I think that he is slightly taller judging from pictures of them standing together on the top podium at the two Grand Prix Finals in Barcelona. So, as you say meoima, it's probably safe to say that Yuzuru is in the 173 – 175 cm range. To add to that, I briefly talked to a volunteer in Helsinki who 'met' Yuzu, aka stood directly next to him for a short moment. She said she was surprised how tall he was, slightly taller than her, and she was pretty much my height - 174 cm. So I don't think he's under 175.

beki, I 100% agree with that. Going clean is freakin' hard with the content these guys have by now. It's not going to work out for any of them to just go clean throughout the whole season or something. Maybe keep it 3 quads but 3 different ones? 4Lo 4T 3A2T --- 4S 3A3T 3Lz3T3Lo 3F 3S Changes: 4S --> 4Lo; 2T --> 3T; lo-3S --> 3T3Lo. So basically, around 9.5 higher, isn't it? (Yes, I'm too lazy right now to get out a calculator xD) That wouldn't be too bad, but I don't know if it would be all that easier than bringing in a 4th quad. It's 3 types of quads either way, but no new combo, and Javi doesn't seem too struggle with stamina (IMO; at least) -

Ah thank you, thank you! Italian lets me understand enough (and I kind of really like Spanish cinema) but I am never too sure about it  Then yes, I stay by my first post. I do think he's opening the door for a possible new quad here, the 4Lo. Doing an LP with 2 4S and 2 4T makes no sense, so it has to be it; he's not sure if it's all going to be possible so he's being careful about it all. I do wonder how it'll all work out for him and if the decision to not include it this past season will turn out to be crucial in the end. Mmmmhhhmmmm... I'm not sure about that. I'd think too that he's talking about the 4Lo (oh-hohoho, someone from team Brian training a new quad for the Oly season? The stuff Brian previously didn't like and all that?*cough**eyes 4Lz*), but Javi also gave long interviews about how he is planing this super amazing game changing new combo of... 3Lz3T3Lo. Which would give him around a whopping whole point more in BV. So I'm not really sure what to think about this here. Hoping it's the 4Lo though and that he'll get it into his repertoire for next season. -
Shizuka didn't financially support his career.. what she did was to use her influence as 2006 OGG to reopen the ice rink where Yuzuru trained, which resulted in him being able to get good results in novice category and onwards. It's a pretty indirect form of support lol. Here's a super blurry video of Shizuka visiting the reopened rink in 2006 and little Yuzu stating his future ambitions: Such a little show off already

I don't think thanks like that are in order when bombing is his natural thing to do anyway though. Korean fed and Anna OTOH... But count me in as another who loves Dany. The guy has charisma to spare and loves the audience. Please no awful boot losing BS for him next season, dear skating gods! -
Because it is Yuzu. No other reason needed :space:

Haven't seen it posted yet, and in case anybody else is missing Mr. Farris and his beautiful skating... here is a video of him skating Give me love as an EX in a show (Skate It Forward). Not 100% there yet, obviously, but anyway! Bonus. As charming as always

I will try :space: In fact, I find his broken English adorable :pbow: . Me too. Yuzus english >>>>> Dais & Hondas english. Who needs grammar when people can't listen anyway because they're starring at how gorgeous you are

Can't lie, I'm super single-minded when it comes to the Russian men: give me Mika + Dima for Olys, and I'm happy. I love Mikas relationship with his coach and choreographers, but I also wished they would be willing to get a bit of help with choreography... Mika has solid basics, he's a great performer/entertainer - with some really good programs, I'm sure he could surprise a lot of people. And I can't shut up about how pure his jumping technique his, his lutz gives me life. I'm willing to sacrifice a few nerves and hairs for him to land that damn 4Lz too  And Dima is just gorgeous to watch. I'm not the biggest fan of his jumps, but I just love watching him :pbow: Regarding Kovtun, I think he will need to do better than only showing up at nats again. He's not considered Russian #1 anymore by any stretch, and he has more competition coming up. Plus Sergei still being there, Artur coming back. I don't dislike Maxim at all, but I don't expect him to make it to PC at this point.

I have nothing against Canada, I actually really like a lot of them - Kaetlyn & Gabby or V/M for example. I just like team Russia even more :pbow: I like Team Russia too. May the best team win! (I guess I should be rooting for Team USA, but I fail at patriotism. Get a medal! Maybe not bronze! Woot.) I never understood the concept of patriotism in these cases... why does someone being born in the same country make people want to root for them? It's about their skating. If I don't like it, I don't like it. And my fave team after Russia is actually China. So many cuties :pbow:

Wait Yata, it Russia a bad word now? Come on, that's a bit harsh, isn't it? :s_tongue The chances of a repeat are pretty slim though. The girls are great, the pairs are solid, but dancers are... a mess, the men are showing some promise, but we need some more time. Chanada has a well-balanced team, on the whole, so... if Gaby's in there, I wouldn't mind seeing them win. Sorry for being not patriotic. Sure, Canada has the biggest chances right now, but I don't think it's that settled... Pairs can actually be really good if Stol/Klim stay heallthy. They came in 3rd in the WC LP despite messing up their SP first and pulled up to 5th to beat D/R anyway. IMO, Russia wins girls, likely Pairs; Canada wins Dance and likely men. And if a Russian man would beat Chiddy, given how much this man can implode, I wouldn't be too surprised either. Again, I agree Canada is going in as fave, but I think Russia still has a really good fighting chance.
-
Russian men could mess up badly, compared to the others, though. Dancing teams aren't that good either... But I'm not sure that's going to be enough for the Japanese team to overtake them. Everyone could more or less mess up though. With Russia, it's IMO pretty open right now whom they're going to send at all... my current guess would be Mika Kolyada for both, but who knows what it looks like in nearly a year from now. And I doubt Mika would end up behind the German, Italian or French man for example, even if he doesn't have his best day. Japanese Dance and Pairs on the other hand... I also need the Russian men not to mess up, because 1.) most of them are skaters I like and 2.) I want Russia to repeat as Team OGM (sorry Chanada!)

OMG, poor Zhenya. I can't believe it :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: If that would have been my 17 year old self, I would have looked like a shrinking tomato. Thanks for translating sweetwater :pbow:

Lol I can only speak for myself, but if I'd get to kiss Yuzu I wouldn't really care about some jealous girls or not  #worthit

Yuzu in all FaoI shows, yaaaaaaaaaaayyyy!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: I'd love to see Etude skated again by now!Yuzu. It's such a gorgeous program. And it has only very little nothing to do with the way that outfit would fit the more buff!Yuzu of now. Etude is good. Etude would always be a good thing. He can wear whatever  But I kind of don't see Etude happening... personally, I expect one new program (might only be a new EX, but could also be a competitive program, who knows), and maybe another old one coming back (assuming he doesn't want to skate the same program in all 9 shows). Edit: I doubt he'll do LGC with the actual SP jumping layout. We are talking about Ice Shows here

Hallo zusammen!

Landings, mechanics, etc of FS jumps
Joey replied to meoima's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I do agree with you that Boyang has less control over his landings but from what I see, I don't think the problem is with his alignment. I think Boyang has beautiful alignment in the air (better than Patrick or Javi in my opinion) and when he lands, he generally lands with proper alignment too (foot under the center of gravity, knee over foot, hips and shoulders square). I think the problem is not with his alignment but with his feet and his knees. He needs better plie (softer knees) and I don't think he rolls his foot to push down to his skates then to the ice properly to control the momentum and direction of his skating well after the jump. These are also not good and may lead to their own set of injuries so Boyang, please strengthen your feet and knees! Then again, I'm not a skater but a dancer so perhaps many things are being "lost in translation" so to speak from dancing to skating. I'd agree that Boyangs body alignment overall is pretty good, and that it's a problem with his feet/ankles when his landings wobble so much. What he sometimes messes up too is the landing edge... he lands too much with a flat edge (or even inside), instead of an outside edge. However, I was positively surprised that his jumps looked better in that regard in practices in Helsinki, so maybe it's more of an old habit still creeping in in competition. He looks better in that regard this season compared to last in general too. So I hope they work further on it, it is fixable in my opinion, at least very much so compared to Nathan and especially Shoma. And when he lands his jumps like the 4Lz in his WC LP, there is zero to complain about. I haven't seen Patrick or Javi land their jumps better than that.
