  1. It's because it is now widely available for general download that it blew up. He did present it a couple of months ago, but it hadn't been published yet
  2. ^^ Agreed. While Martina's work is highly appreciated in some aspects, I don't think it will be taken kindly if it's combined with a thesis that makes suggestions on how to improve scoring in figure skating through AI. As much as most of us would like to expose their ways, we can't present it as: 'you are corrupt, why don't you do this instead?' They have to be sweet-talked into it. Present it as an option to ease their burden as judges, make it sound like it is for their benefit (mostly). We live in an age of technology where other sports are already advancing into this field and FS shouldn't fall behind either.
  3. Hi senemgencer, If I knew there was a way in which this situation could be fixed, I would be one of the first ones to "get up and scream murder". But I don't think there is. The ISU, the IOC... they are both in it together. The IOC won't do anything in this case. Just like they haven't done anything after Sochi 2014 with all the fiasco that went down when it was a whole federation complaining officially against the corrupt judging. I placed this question on Twitter once, and had the audacity to '@' Martina (and Max Ambesi) whom you mentioned in your post because I felt brave to see what they thought. Martina pretty much said it was a lost cause and I have to agree with her. I thought about hashtags, just to get the word out there to see if the big news outlets would catch onto it and start their investigation. The request to have judges provide reports (justifications for their scoring) was once put out there I believe, but it got shot down immediately. I also believe that if they were to implement this, would require putting the judges on a payroll as part-time (if not full-time) workers since they will need quite a bit of time to write these reports rather than just sit there at the side of the rink and look pretty. A petition is not gonna make it. Someone already big enough in sports journalism has to start getting involved in this subject for it to start rolling. But who? Forget any US journalist, they all are living for the current hype of their skater and a report like this one would just harm them. Canada? I'm gonna go with the cliche and say that they are too nice . Lol at Russia. Maybe we can call up Netflix and tell them we have material. Everyone knows Netflix loves its scandals.
  4. For all the haters. Love, Portuguese Eurosport.
  5. Are those US Dollars or Canadian Dollars? (Please tell me they're Canadian, my British pocket would be very grateful)
  6. If this is slowed down to the same speed (frames per second) then you can see how much of a beast the 4A would be by just looking at the speed of his rotation. It's insane.
  7. Plot twist: it’s the device on Yuzu’s chest during training session. He’s been his own test subject all these years. thanks for bringing it over!
  8. Not if it means he'll pre-rotate the jump please.
  9. This makes me imagine a rocket with Yuzu's face on it
  10. ""[...] Of course I still hold those feelings, but I am also fully aware that there are those who have lost their usual mens of work, thos who are suffering during these circumstances, and of course, how difficult it is for those involved to organize and run a competition like this [...]I thought that by bringing myself to this venue that (people depend on for) work, I could maybe help in someway [...]" He is essentially doing what probably most of us have been trying to do this entire year. Support small businesses, even if it's just a little it could perhaps help them retain jobs. It's not about the big ISU, but the paid staff that is involved in all this from logistics to cleaning staff. These are the little people that are benefitting from this event in the end and I'm so happy he has pointed it out.
  11. Looks like the English translation is actually not bad. Every sentence made sense but if it's accurate I can't say "The world competition for figure skating has begun. Shoma Uno and Yuzuru Hanyu will appear in the men's short program on the first day. Hanyu will be participating for the first time in two tournaments since the 2017 tournament where Japan won the championship. Therefore, we will publish a special article about Hanyu published in "Sports Graphic Number". First appearance: "Sports Graphic Number" released on January 21, 2021 <Student Yuzuru Hanyu "Thesis of 30,000 characters reached by exploring issues"> Yuzuru Hanyu graduated from Waseda University School of Human Sciences last fall. The graduation thesis was taught by Shoji Nishimura, a professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences. How did the student, Hanyu, look in the eyes of the professor? "My first encounter was an interview on Skype before enrollment. It seems that it was the timing right after the tournament in the fall of 2012. I felt an attitude. I thought that the sports science department would be better if I wanted to master figure skating, but I had a clear sense of purpose, such as saying that I wanted to know what the physical movements that make up figure skating are. Was. I see, that's why I was told that it was the Faculty of Human Sciences. " Hanyu won the Japan Championship for the first time in December 2012 © Takuya Sugiyama Hanyu won the Japan Championship for the first time in December 2012 © Takuya Sugiyama See all photos (4) Even though I was busy, I read ten papers Hanyu, who enrolled in the Correspondence Course (e-school) of the Faculty of Human Sciences, took a lesson-style lecture for two years. He worked with a strong sense of inquiry and actively posted on the bulletin board for questions and answers that other students could see. After completing the required credits, students of the Faculty of Human Sciences choose a seminar for their graduation research. Hanyu decided to study under Professor Nishimura. "At the time of entering the seminar, the outline of the theme of the thesis will be decided through interviews, etc. Mr. Hanyu had a desire to do research to analyze the movement of figure skating." Previously, under Professor Nishimura, figure skater Haruka Imai was engaged in research using "motion capture" technology that attaches sensors to the body and records movements. At that time, the technology was not as easy to use as it is today, so it was not at a level that could be analyzed. However, due to the evolution of technology, it has become possible for figure skaters to collect data on how they behave. Guidance was given to Canada-based Hanyu using e-mail and Skype. Even though I was busy, I worked on reading the 10 papers properly and took the lead. I spent a lot of time learning about research and analytical methods. " "It was so complete that I didn't have much to do with it." The title of his thesis was "Utilization of motion capture technology in figure skating and future prospects", and he focused on it from spring to summer when he refrained from going out. And at the end of July last year, I finished writing my graduation thesis."
  12. "In mammals, otoliths are small particles, composed of a combination of a gelatinous matrix and calcium carbonate in the viscous fluid of the saccule and utricle. The inertia of these small particles causes them to stimulate hair cells when the head moves." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otolith#:~:text=In mammals%2C otoliths are small, cells when the head moves. Is he getting bald? Joking aside, seems like it's to prepare his body for quick changes in movement (up and down, left and right). Makes sense. I might try it out next time I get onto a Roller Coaster. Perhaps I can avoid getting nauseous that way
  13. The poster does seem to have a typo consider the kun reading for 弦 is つる but I guess it just looks prettier. Who knows. Let's wait for a native Japanese speaker
  14. No expert here but my Japanese teacher said that づ would be pronounced as 'dzu' compared to ず which is 'zu'.
  15. Nope, but you might need to try with several browsers. I can't remember exactly if they changed it but iSakura required Flash which Chrome doesn't support anymore. Maybe they have now updated their platform to make it so that users don't need to run the plug-in anymore.
  16. The competition is going to be broadcasted on TV Asahi. It's also listed on iSakura. The Mini package includes the channel as well, so no need to go for the more expensive rate: https://japannettv.com/wpshop/index.php/isakurapro-mini/
  17. I don't know whether they are questioning the GEOs but they are certainly comparing them side by side which makes me so proud because it highlights the perfection of that combo on Yuzu's side. But also makes me incredibly salty all over again.
  18. Not any news, so not tagging them as such. Let's just all focus on pretty things.
  19. Thank you! So does that mean that Mexico got a spot in the end after all the fiasco?
  20. This is no longer a sport. It's a dictatorship (obviously a lot more insignificant than actual dictatorships).
  21. I’m too tipsy for this he almost makes it sound like Yuzu is lonely and all I want to do is give him a hug
