Do you have the link to the updated protocols? If that's what ISU wants to do, its very lax compared to the sporting events in the Asia Pacific region(Asia + Australia+ NZ). In the badminton tournament in Thailand held in Jan 2021 : 1) Must test negative upon entry to Thailand. 2) Quarantine around 7 days before start training. 3) Continued testing every 3 to 4 days throughout the tournament. 4) If one team member tests positive, whole team has to quarantine 10 days even though they tested negative. Happened to team India. This was later changed to "except the player who test negative". He/she had to compete alone without coach at court side to advise.

I remember Plushenko fans saying that the steel rods in his back was loosen or something was misaligned. He re- injured his back during the Team event. So it was actually dangerous for Plushenko to skate. On injuries & competing with injuries, when Yuzu was criticized for skating when he was seriously injured, parallels were drawn with his idol Plushenko. Plushenko has had knee surgery other than back surgery. He went back on ice shortly after his knee surgery to prepare for a major competition. Too fast some said. Since it was anniversary of Yuzu's 1st OG Gold, I re watched the Team SP to refresh my memory.

I mean the original speaker is supposed explain what he meant after that one sentence. We are not supposed to guess & explain the meaning ourselves cos the original speaker's meaning could be totally different. English to Indonesian and vice versa is not that hard. I occasionally translate sports article from malay to english(so now you know which country I'm from). This last minute change is a challenge but we were able to overcome it. With our experience, we are able to adapt/adjust to less conducive conditions on court" What is not being said :' the last minute change and court conditions were shitty and we had to put up with it.' The athlete did not say this so of course I dont translate that, hahaha. I translate what they say, not the nuances, or body language or facial expression. It is for the journalist to ask a follow up question like "What do you think the organisers should improve on?" "Have you/your coaches complained abt these issues to the organisers" And yes, I do know a few people who are professionally trained translators, who graduated with degrees in translation. As far as I know &seen, the standard SOP is what the current translators are doing.
-
It is because in actual translations we are not supposed to explain the meaning behind the words. If the original speaker says "A, B,C and D", it's supposed to be translated as such. It is up to the audience/reader to interpret the meaning behind those words. Some paraphrasing may be used but translations is that : translate the words from language A to B. Explanations is supposed to be done by the original speaker to convey his meaning.

There's the other pesky thing called - need money to eat & survive. So, need to put effort in making the said money, esp after months of lockdown & loss of income. Sleeping naahh. Sleep less, have more hours to watch vids, play games, etc after work.
-
Haha. There's the pesky thing called work & responsibilities.

On the staying up late part of the clip,in an interview with Shisuka Arakawa that he did say he sleep at 1 am or so if the next day is his off day. Then wakes up at 12 noon. Hahaha. I cant do that even when I sleep at 3 am.

Wow, what a time to discover Yuzuru. I was fortunate, my 1st was his 2014 Sochi programs shown on youtube. It was in the news at the time that he was the 1st Japanese male to win OG Gold. Being Asian, I'm interested in any skater from Asia country winning a major tournament in a western dominated sport. My 1st was when Shen/Zhao won pairs in 2010.

What does STEM stand for? Btw, I'm in marketing so PR,packaging, saturated market, emerging market are some of terms I've used in relation to figure skating. It's one of those non office based jobs.

I'm hoping its becomes true. That this is the first & last awards show. Makes figure skating look like a clown of a sport. Great feat, considering I dont see other Olympic sports doing such antics. As to budget, it would not be surprising ISU incur losses cos this was not done in a stadium as they intended to. Plus all the activities they wanted to have. Loss of income from there. No income or less income from TV rights. The non refundable deposit they had to pay for the stadium for WC and gala. And hotel bookings, flight tickets

When it comes to sports & events, it would be better if competitions are held implementing social distancing & temperature checks till the end of 2020. The Covid 19 situation is better in Asia countries cos 1) we had it 1st, 2) most implemented more strict control measures than Europe or North America. I'm from SouthEast Asia, cinemas in my country are allowed to open since 1 July. With social distancing between seats(marked X) like the pic in this news article : https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2020/07/605591/crowds-slowly-returning-cinemas-says-gsc-rep So, if cinemas are allowed to have audiences then so should stadium, with proper social distancing. There is not going to be that many audience anyway compared to before Covid 19. Borders in Asia countries have started to open for foreigners from selected countries. Foreign investor need to be attracted to come back, tourism industry needs a kick start. All helps to revive a country's economy. The governments need the taxes to pay for expenses. So, unless its a rich 1st World country, we in Asia are opening borders.

And yet they still wonder why Figure Skating is not respected as a sport. The way the World Body, ISU conducts itself is appalling. It is not interested in promoting the sport globally & actual improvements in the sport, it's only interested in furthering their own agenda.

On the 2nd paragraph, what he means is similar to the last paragraph. To paraphrase : " The programs were created to convey the thoughts and emotions of that specific/unique time" What he felt at the period of time when the programs were choreographed was what produced the programs, he may or may not feel the same way now. Using the same concept, programs for upcoming new season will be made. On side note, on a broader perspective he could be referring to the programs he has over the years. Which he did a snippet of each in the JSF video. The Yuzu of RJ1 in 2012 is different from Yuzu performing RJ1 in 2014 at WC exhibition. The Yuzu of PW in 2014 Olympics is different from the Yuzu performing PW at Skate Canada 2019. ** My chinese is "half pail full" only.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/79472874 There was another video showing him getting off the ice into the wheelchair but could be taken down by now. He missed 2016 WC because of the surgery.

I think for Nathan it's due to the fact he had a hip surgery when he was 16 or 17. I remember Rafael saying in an interview before that Nathan was all for quads & more quads. But yeah of course, Nathan doesnt "live & breath skating" like Yuzu does. Yuzu has a relatively normal school life compared to US skaters. In US, some were homeschooled so to make time for skating.

I'm more inclined to believe it's typo error.

That's cos TCC is a private club. They dont allow details of training to be public unless the skater himself or herself says so. For Yuzuru, most things are secret. The only time it's anything close was Joseph Phan saying Yuzuru was struggling during training before 2019 WC. Followed by "But you dont see that at the competition right?" This was a compliment to Yuzuru's mental strength. As for 'exposing' skater weaknesses, that's the coach's dept. Orser did that in the early years. Examples : Yuzuru didnt know how to stand/pose properly for his opening pose, didnt do off ice training before going to Orser, Yuzuru too focused on quads & not on basics like Orser wanted him to.

I know. Just stating that countries cannot ban all China nationals from entering. They can implement partial ban but not total.
-
My country, Malaysia, yesterday announced that it will stop issuing visas to those from Wuhan and Hubei province. https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2020/01/27/coronavirus-travel-ban-malaysia-stops-visas-for-chinese-travellers-from-affected-areas Although Wuhan has been on lockdown since Jan 23, there are those entering through neighbouring countries like Singapore & Thailand. Even Philippines which sent back a few hundred Wuhan tourists are Not implementing a total ban of all China nationals. I have read that approval from WHO is needed for total ban. For athletes, they are not traveling for pleasure but work and honour of their country. So, by logic, the skaters should be exempted from China's outbound travel restriction. The host country should be able to receive them as long as they are not from ground zero areas & dont show symptoms.

It's an Asian trait, more so Japanese. You dont see Nathan saying he's good in this & that. The whole time of the GPF press con, Yuzuru & Nathan were complimenting each other back & forth. Very Asian. As for Yuzuru, he's been talking abt his faults/mistakes since he turned senior. That didnt stop him from winning 2 OG Golds, 2 World titles and I think 4 GPF titles. At Japan Nationals, Shoma as the winner was also reflective of his own shortcomings while being happy he came out of a rut. And of course praised his senior, Yuzu kun. I would say all the Japanese skaters talk similarly. If they dont do well, they are kuyashi. If they win, they still will say they need to improve their weaknesses. You should see the interviews with the other Japanese men, how they are constantly compared to Yuzuru, how they often feel they dont measure up. The latest is Koshiro Shimada, Sota Yamamoto.
-
And Denis Ten in 2014. I remember the 3 medalist for both 2014, 2018 Olympics. Other than Yuzuru, there was another 5 medalist. Now only left Yuzu & Shoma. Amazing on Yuzu's staying power, staying on top 3 power.
-
Didnt Yuzu say candle burn the brightest just before it goes out? He wants to go out with a bang. It's the whole tone of his interview these days. That's how other athletes talk before they retire. But the main reason is Yuzu dislikes getting 2nd place. Which all intents and purposes(very obviously) show the judges will give the win to Nathan. Yuzu cant stand losing. The main reason I see Yuzu continuing is cos Japan still needs him in men's singles. With Shoma's coaching situation, Japan needs a sure medal contender.
-
Due to the interviews done after GPF. Abt burning candle and all that. And challenging the 4A. 4CC is cos Yuzu seldom competes at 4CC and its one of the competitions he hasnt won before. He has finally won Skate Canada this season, 4CC is another . I.e. he wants to win the titles he hasnt won before and wrap it up. If Yuzu lands the 4A at WC, skates clean and Nathan still wins WC, then it is high probability Yuzu will retire. Cos that means no matter what he does, ISU wants Nathan to be the next star.

Oh, I thought Ghislain is going fly direct from Korea to Japan, much shorter trip.
