Oh dear. Bow is “quinga”, string is “tendl”, taut is “tunga” in Quenya - what do you get?
-
That’s going to be beyond me, I need a good Japanese-Quenya dictionary for that!
-
Sindarin or Quenya?

After seeing fuglesca influenza (bird flu) in the modern version of Anglo-Saxon Chronicle I believe in anything. It can be “solid water dancing”
-
Does anyone mind?

An article in Egyptian hieroglyphs about Yuzuru... wow. I should try and create one in Old English or Gothic then! Lol
-
Well, Russian is hardly exotic. Try Georgian. Or... Mongolian first!

Not until we have some more substantial proof, folks. Please. Enough of skaters-leaving-Eteri-and-creating-scandal drama for just one season. What created the drama was that those inept admins in Eteri vk.com group started deleting questions about Alena and even apparently banning people who asked questions why she withdrew, even though the news had already been made public by RusFed. Later on the group did publish the news, so I hope for now the drama is over.

Спасибо за добавление, сейчас добавлю ещё комментарий! Ok, there’s yet another aspect in that mushroom judging system - the meme that got so popular in Russian FS forums. Apart from hallucinogenic implications, what matters is that mushrooms grow very fast, and so do scores for some elect skaters. The banners in question seem to have been caused by Patrick Chan’s scores. so now can anyone explain that much to that tweeter?
-
So far the skates are up to 1.5 million yen.
-
When everyone was chanting “Rossiya’ (Russia) and he took it as a credit of his own support?
-
Because “mushrooms” actually mean hallucinogenic mushrooms the judges eat when they score certain skaters. It’s a series of banners criticising judging panels. Ever since then, they started checking banners, I guess. The writing in Russian says “Say no to mushrooms”. Or rather, “judge without any mushrooms” Mushrooms are a thing commonly mentioned when discussing judging and favourites. On the other hand, the kind of haircut Yuzu had would never ever be called a mushroom haircut. We have a different word for it.
-
Actually, this thing has nothing to do with Yuzu. At all.
-
There are certain tendencies, though, which suggest there might be something to it. Sigh. Let’s just stop here and see how it goes.

Lyubov Ilyushechkina and Charlie Bilodeau have teamed up to make a new pair. https://skatecanada.ca/2019/03/lubov-ilyushechkina-and-charlie-bilodeau-to-compete-in-pairs-together/

Come on, there’s no real meat to the rumours that Alena is leaving Eteri.

Oh boy, did I inadvertently start a white xylitol costume discussion?

2019 Russian Ladies World Team Selection
Fay replied to katonice's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I think the fact Zhenya’s mother used to be a skater also helps. But basically, Zhenya has been the first skater for a while with a whole array of gold medals, and she’s made herself... respected. She’s also proved herself highly motivated and utterly devoted to FS, not giving up after a breakup with a coach who made her famous, but wanting to try something new. And I guess many coaches might think Zhenya’s stay with TCC as sort of apprenticeship as well. It is the first time a Russian skater has trained with a non-Russian coach, so some might consider it as a sort of investment. So basically, yes, the past record allowed Evgenia Medvedeva get chosen now. Get your popcorn now and get ready to see another exciting episode coming up. This has been a most exciting season so far! -
2019 Russian Ladies World Team Selection

The National Champion is routinely sent to the Worlds. Unless you get a case like this season’s. -
I am not sure, Yulia wouldn’t have heard of Sasha. The thing is that her trademark spins were largely developed because she found them more comfortable than others. “Why do I have to risk cutting my hand on my blade if I can hold my leg by the ankle and straighten it thanks to my gumbiness” they stood out back then along with her spirals. Now there are more young skaters inspired by her and her predecessors. Her spins are still really good though....

2019 Russian Ladies World Team Selection
Fay replied to katonice's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
When it’s not clear, it’s customary for the committee to vote. In this case, it might have been done through phone, there was pretty little time for all of them to get into one space. Russia isn’t small. -
At least that is the costume everyone can agree about...
-
Not sure about harder - Yulia didn’t hold her foot when doing the first version of her layback, and her layback was very impressive. And her speed was pretty good when she was smaller - and she got into the final position in no time. Slowed understandably when she got older. Held the position for two rotations, as it was customary at that time. But anyway, here in Russia the needle spin is often called Lipnitskaya spin because she was the first one here to use it (by no means the first one to introduce it, there’d been someone else) - she found it more comfortable for herself than the conventional bielmann. There were a few other girls who took up the position like Elizaveta Nugumanova. But it’s harder to keep it up with the age, I guess.
-
I guess these people have never seen Yulia Lipnitskaya spin, right? It’s her trademark bielmann.
