  1. Well, suddenly I am thinking that he might have bear with all of those ugly costumes because he find it hilarious? Maybe he actually lurks to read fan's disgusted response toward those customes and laughs himself silly?
  2. Is there any link to GP Helsinki 2018 and/or GP COR 2018 with CBC commentary?
  3. They put him in such costumes to remind us that he is human with flaws and weaknesses. And it is still sold??
  4. Media assumes that it is Hamada. We need to wait for Nobu to tell his story in detail.
  5. Isn't it 5A-4A-3A combo? Edit. Sequence. The Ultimate Axel Seq
  6. The reason why Shoma falls... is because he is thinking about Yuzu's performance isn't he? If I'm not mistaken that was what he said. So I was thinking about what ifs discussion. There is always what ifs everytime someone win in a competition. But it is pointless, isn't it? The winner is the best man in that particular competition. Best balance in physical and mental condition, best overall score definitely. You just cannot gamble with your performance. Everytime a skater stand in the middle of the rink, they must think about themselves and the best performance that they can present.
  7. This should be asked and answered in general thread in my opinion but I will try: 1. Unless Yuzuru care and do legal action against those haters, then nobody can shut them, just like how it happens with all public figures in every part of the world. 2. You talk about Japan Open. It is held around October right? It clashes with important competitions that he choose to concentrate in: GPS and GPF. So even if they invite him, it is more likely that he will not attend. And how do we know that they don't invite him? 3. He appears in almost all Ice Shows in 2014 and 2015 until it was revealed in 2016 that he suffered from lisfranc injury which prevented him from attending any shows in 2016, and then there was an agreement between all party involved that he would limit his ice shows appearance. 4. The thing is, Yuzuru is being backed by a person who was defeated in a faction/political war in JSF (Shirota), cmiiw. According to Shirota, she was one of the main reason of Yuzuru's success, she was his supporter all the way, and furthermore she was involved in moving him to Toronto, and even now she is still supporting him through ANA. Yuzuru's presence and success all happen outside of the current JSF management influence, while the athletes that they sponsor, none has achieved such unrivalled consistency: Yuzuru always get gold and silver in allll competition he is ever involved in since the start of 2013-2014 season. In many ways, this imply that the current JSF management is incompetent compare to Shirota's management (because it is under her management Shizuka Arakawa become gold medalist in Olympic 2006). Shirota is known for her talent development camp but she got involved in embezzlement scandal by ex-president of JSF at that time. Moreover, you should know that Yuzuru does not have best of health compare to other athletes, to the point that he got influenza just before JNats 2016, and then asthma attack 2 weeks before WC 2017. Furthermore, the reason for his fall just before NHK Trophy 2017 is because he caught fever and force himself to practice for NHK Trophy 2017. So it is more likely that his team tries to limit the competition and show that he attends so he can maintain good health for the important competitions that will count toward his World Ranking.
  8. LOLOLOLOL the difference between him and the 2nd rank! Btw, I want to gush about Yuzu... again... So these days I backtrack the forum especially around PC 2018 period and I read about the many news/articles about him produced by so called reporters and journalists from all around the world. Tbh, I was not really interested in FS at that time, but I know of him, and I know of his connection through Mansai Nomura (I am a fan) --> Onmyouji movie --> Seimei --> Yuzuru, and somehow I ended up knowing him through his TV appearance and it is his personality that really makes his outward appearance shine through. So I fall in love with this amazing creation, Yuzuru Hanyu, with all of his complexes that are apparent and hidden, and especially I fall in love with how sincerely he tries his best to be the best he can be either as an athlete or as a human being. In this day and age where people who are cynics and bad-mannered are being hailed as honest and sincere, this is Yuzuru Hanyu, who only work hard to fulfill the role given to him. And it is a very difficult role too: to be a hope and a symbol of perseverance and resilience--at the beginning, for a city, then for a region then--for a nation. I tended to sneer at people who always try to speak and behave nicely, but I just cannot with Yuzu, something about how he has maintained such an attitude for years and years, under media scrutiny, among peers who can vouch for him, and the feeling that just came out from me that convince me that he is as sincere as someone who just wants to do good things can be. He is giving me a hope for humanity and it will be very saddening indeed if there are people who try to smother him in any way. It is very easy to make people understand WHY as a young woman who is nearing her 30s, I want to support Yuzuru whole-heartedly: after I show them his programs, then I tend to show them his interviews, and then his TV appearances, and I successfully convert another woman in her early 30s and my mom who is in her 60s to be a fan of Yuzuru, all rational and logical people in daily life. Good looking and idol-like charisma, none of that can gather such following of fans or at the very least supporters among males and females. When will western media or some other figure skating fans realize this? That many of Yuzuru's fans (specifically, I am sure, his Japanese fans) are not there because of his appearance or his skating (only, though those might be an entry point). Rather than anything else, it is his sincerity that I think has reached many hearts. His goodness of heart, his honest effort, his pure love for his hometown and his nation. With every 24H TV appearance, even if it is only once a year, and only snippets, his feeling reaches more and more people. More than anything else, by keep going on this path that he chooses, the feeling of wanting to give happiness to the people of his region especially and his fans in general is still there. And I think, it is this that we consciously or subconsciously want to protect, so he won't be disheartened by how it seems that the authority in ISU or JSF is trying to kill that hope (which, as a new fan, it seems to be like that for me). However, the fact that his hometown and East Japan in general seems to answer that love favorably with similar passion gives me encouragement that Yuzuru will always have a beloved home and people who will embrace and protect him back.
  9. This whole situation is giving me a heartache.. but the fact that Nobu speaks up like this, and reaches out to international fans will really help him out in this situation. There is no way the institution can just sweep the situation under the rug with how widespread Nobu's situation is, and the revelation comes in the wave of athletes speaking up against harassment. For someone of Nobu's calibre, he is not just an ex-athlete but he is also a public figure.
  10. Enlighten me, what kind of harassment is this? Nobu is a prominent figure how can they do it?
  11. I knoooowww. But I got off on tangent because it remains me with the poohvalance being forbidden and I am like thinking to myself what if fans also being forbidden from bla bla bla. Afaik, pooh is sooo dangerous with how it attack judges and judges computers and changing scores and attack other skaters and cause injuries so Yuzuru can win every competition known to man.
  12. Well, respect here is respecting the rule if and when ISU decides to make rules about fans behavior in consideration of skaters' safety and health because of how dangerous athlete losing concentration can be. If there is really correlation to that, and ISU decides to make regulations for fans, then it is ideal for ISU to explain the whys and hows, therefore fans can follow the regulations with understanding. This relates to the recent twitter posts about how fans screaming can distract skaters, especially during jumps. But ISU does not seem to be interested in making such rules... because... what will it be? "Audiences are requested to maintain silence throughout athlete's whole performance or practice run through or better yet, don't bother to come?" There are so many skaters routine that got enhanced by fans screaming, chanting, clapping especially in stsq. Ideally, it should be encouraging to skaters themselves, they will one day take a big stage and do shows and if they are bothered with that (fans enthusiasm) it will be difficult for them to grow. It is also a test of mental strength, how do you absorb such attention to yourself?
  13. It is sport. It is competition, and supporters cheers are part of it. And if fans or different athletes are competing in their cheering.. well it is part of it too. As long as there is a competition, there will be fans/supporters who will wholeheartedly cheer their hero. Call it psychological warfare or w/e but who can be blamed if other skaters cannot generate as much as interest and fans enthusiasm like the more popular ones? If associations/federations are concern about skaters safety, then they should distribute pamphlet about proper figure skating fans behavior. And if fans have respect toward the sport, the athlete, and the federation, they will respect those regulations. Of course it does not guarantee that supporters will follow those rules. Soccer for example, no matter how hard they try to control fans even as far as punishing the athletes, it always ends in compromise in the end. The current popularity and interest figure skating gain nowadays seems to be unprecedented and focus mostly on Yuzuru so it seems many is unable to handle such culture shock? Yuzuru fame and popularity (which he gains in such an organic way) cannot be contained and it is not like he can tell people to please stop loving him because it will just encourage fans to love him more.
  14. About this tribute program. Isn't it usually the coach who decide program for juniors? If it is like this, does it mean that the coaches too are giving tribute to Yuzuru Hanyu?
  15. A few months back there was discussion about Joe Inman saying (in conclusion) that Seimei music is bland (by western standard) then... BAM! He must be swallowing his spit now.
  16. Wow! Ice Dancing can get pretty intimate tho, will Dai's hardcore fans able to handle it? It is good tho. His involvement certainly can help develop more interest in ID and Japan definitely is the country in which it seems most skaters have quite good musicality etc. And the JSF will definitely give more support to ID then. Hopefully.
  17. I agree with both sentiment. And Origin, I think this season's version is more true to Yuzu, as he said it is about coming back to his Origin (instead of Shae Lynn concept). And the love that you mention.. what else if not love for ice and figure skating?
  18. Does anyone have complete Sochi Olympic 2014 men's event?
  19. OT. I have successfully convince my Mom and my friend that Yuzuru Hanyu is the best person of this era and esp. of his generation. Anyway, here is what they think more or less about Yuzu: that he seems like a sincere/genuinely nice person with childlike innocence but also very cunning, and he has such a sweet face and charming attitude, and they just cannot help but admire him for his role in society outside figure skating competition. And they also admire his drives and his motivation. So my Mom and my friend enjoys watching full competition video and documentary (esp. because Japanese documentary is top-notch informative, new figure-skating fans greatly benefit from how discovery channel-like Japanese documentary about Yuzuru are). At first I am rather hesitant because of the image of transsexual men and men in drag in my country, and the fact that my Mom is mostly uncomfortable with some skaters. And, especially this is what my Mom notes about Yuzuru. My Mom is kinda amazed by how pure Yuzu's skating are, and for my Mom, who is not the most liberal but also not very conservative, despite how borderline gender bending some of Yuzu's costumes are, they don't make him feminine and his mannerism and choreography does not have a feminine association. He exudes something like innocence, and as my Mom watches Notte Stellatta or Hopurega, or Haru Yo Koi, what she gets is a child who looks soooo happy on ice that it makes people who watch him happy too. Mind you, my Mom used to be a big big fan of Michael Jackson (and you know how MJ is with his sex appeal and his choreography). My friend too thinks like this, but she is a girl and an otaku too so we are kinda used to that kind of portrayal of a male protagonist who seem fragile/delicate externally but very powerful. Another thing that appeal to my Mom, is Yuzuru's performance and interpretation. For my Mom who is a fan of MJ, she really likes how freely Yuzuru used his body on ice. He does not seem chained to choreographed movement. What he shows off, his movement, it all feels organic/natural, a bit like free styling (even if we know it is choreographed). She is impressed with how Yuzu accentuate the music, and it appeals to her very much, because it makes every performance unpredictable and emotionally appealing, unlike many other programs which is being executed very strictly to the choreography. IMO, not many skaters can do it like that, Yuzu's overall appearance convinces most of us that we are actually watching a mystical creature playing around on ice, and it is pretty magical, before he falls and we get shocked back to the realization that he is very much human. Btw, Mom's favorite performance so far, it seems, is LGC from GPF 2016.
  20. Seconding this opinion about Shizuka Arakawa's grace and elegance. When I see Shizuka's skating, I always think that there are lots of Shizuka in Yuzuru's movement especially arm and fingers movement, to the point that I thought Yuzuru must have watched Shizuka skates A LOT in his childhood that it must be ingrained in his memory.
  21. Even though I am relatively new in following his career, I really can see it. As he himself say, his life is very fantastical if you don't know that there is a real life person living it. I rarely pray for anyone's well being except my family. But I am going to pray that all of us can see Yuzuru reaches his dreams, jumps his 4A, wins another Olympic gold medal all the while staying healthy and happy with himself. I am never this invested with someone. Tbh, this is not all because of Yuzuru, I myself am selfish, and I want to see that miracle, I want to witness Yuzuru evolves further than anyone can imagine any figure skater can do.
