Team we're fewer but still good!
guitarist replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Igloo World: Team Other Skaters
Donovan was being interviewed in a live stream on Instagram! A few highlights: - He's aiming to add a quad for the SP for Beijing because his goal is to make the free - The music they're considering for his new program (assuming the SP) is very different from anything he's done before. He didn't say what the music was, though Then they let fans ask questions and I asked what his favorite jump is. His answer... 3A! Good taste, Donovan. -
Ha. I heard the same kind of crap from American coaches when Jason moved to TCC. It was hilarious because they were saying "they're sucking out all creativity out of poor Jason Brown" about his SP that was choreographed by... Rohene Ward So just the typical nationalistic bs. If it's not made in 'MURICA (or Russia, in Zhenya's case) it's automatically inferior Even though in this case it was. But it wouldn't be 'MURICA without people who are proud of their own ignorance, after all.

Is the fee that high now?? iirc the Skating Club of New York is cheaper for adults. I think my membership was $90, you just can't compete in the regular junior/senior events. I was able to sign up for tests and compete with that membership. Idk if you're in the area, though (then again, there's plenty of skaters who live in different states from the clubs they represent). I think it really depends on how much you want to compete. I haven't really seen that many non-USFSA competitions, and the ones I've seen are fairly small. I agree that your best option is probably to try to take them all in a year. And maybe you can find a cheaper club.

I've always wanted to see a skater try I Want It All, Brian May's guitar is perfect for choreo/step sequences. Yuzu would definitely nail it.

Is anyone else having trouble seeing embedded content? Some things load, but for others I just see a huge blank spot. I thought it might be my browser, but I checked my phone and same thing.

Lol, yeah, I sprained my ankle once like 2 years ago and it stopped feeling sore after like 6 months, but it still cracks when I move it It didn't do that before haha. Kids have it so much easier...

And injuries don't significantly affect your lifestyle. I always think about the fact that I live alone and I have to get to work (well, when I'm not forced to work from home, anyway) and do all cooking and household chores on my own. No parents around to take care of all that...

No need to be jealous, I suck at everything else! The answer to that is probably yes, but at some point you have to stop and really think about whether that fear makes sense for you or not. My coach knows I'm really scared of a lot of stuff, but she doesn't push because she knows that for adults it's not just a simple matter of getting over falls. If you get injured, you still have a life with responsibilities. If I get injured, I still have work, still have to cook for myself and do chores. So yeah, maybe I'd be a better skater if I weren't so scared, but I also don't want to get injured because I'll be screwed if that happens. Wish I'd started as a kid, back when injuries were easier to deal with. Unfortunately, I'm from a resort town in Mexico. No ice rinks there

Yeah, we've been working on it, but it's tricky, I keep doing it wrong half the time, and it doesn't help that I'm the typical adult who is scared of bad falls, mostly because I'm really paranoid about hand injuries. We'd been working on it before the pandemic started, but now I'm honestly too lazy to go back to skating. But yes, spread eagles are the one thing I'm good at

Omg same. My problem is that my left outside edge is terrible (a combination of bad technique, not enough muscle, overpronation, and too much turnout making my hips hard to control), so I can't get into spins properly...

I tried Jason's. I failed

I mouth the words to whatever song I'm listening to all the time, and like Yuzu, sometimes I get a little too inspired This includes Wada Kouji's Butter-Fly, from Digimon, which we've seen Yuzu sing. I guess since we're around the same age we grew up with similar TV shows. And I would say my obsession with headphones also counts, but I don't have the budget to be nearly as dedicated as Yuzu!

I have trouble with the mohawk in the figure eight crossovers. Why is it on the first adult test??? And why do I have so much trouble with it? You'd think mohawks would be easy for me, good turnout is literally the only thing I've got going for me

It's a weird number, starts with Thunderstruck and then switches to Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Makes sense in context. Sort of. It's a story about climate change, ends with Summer. My coach choreographed it. It's kind of weird, but I love the ACDC part, and the summer bit looks cool now that everyone is doing it in time. The Middle of Nowhere, WA. Wenatchee, which I didn't even know existed. The locals are very surprised there's a national competition going on here I'm far too embarrassed to post the dress, but it's blue. And since it's ice theatre, we also have some props. In a way, this whole event feels like competitive galas. Even the low levels are fun to watch, it's all very creative.

So I'm at my first non-local competition. I'm part of a group thing my coach does every year. It's Nationals Showcase, which is less impressive than it sounds because we qualified automatically (no other teams from the Skating Club of NYC entered for our category), and I'm the oldest skater in the team, next oldest is 16, but it's still kind of exciting. It's funny, though, because I look like a 12-year-old, so I fit right in. It's kind of embarrassing The ice is different from what I'm used to, though, so I hope I don't screw up my (very easy) elements. But anyway, this is surprisingly fun. For me, that is. I'm very amused at the coaches' attempts to control the kids. It's hilarious, and it makes me soooooo glad I don't work with children

It can be done, just not as the Axel type jump.
-
It can be done as the solo jump, the rule only says that the 3A may not be repeated. It can also be done in combination (again, rule says Axel jump may not be repeated).
-
Well, given that he said he was impressed by the score he got at Nationals, I think he knew how Nathan was doing. Which interview are you referring to? Protocols (under Judges Score): http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1819/wc2019/index.htm

Not true. Depends entirely on the school. It's mostly based on credits. At my college, a regular courseload was 16 credits, or 4 classes. Some classes were 1 credit (such as labs for chemistry or biology) or 2 credits (music performance). How hard each semester was depended entirely on the classes you picked. That said, I took 18-20 on average and worked about 15 hrs/wk, so it's manageable. Engineering students usually ended up taking at least 18 because of labs. And I'll clarify that I didn't go to an Ivy, I went to a school that was in the next tier below (an Ivy rejects school, basically), but they're all pretty similar. I wouldn't really say college here was hard, though. When I moved here for school I expected it to be much harder than it turned out to be. American high schools are probably harder than college. I agree with @Veveco about the more impressive thing being long-distance training, though, not very many people could do that.

I'm glad my mom likes Yuzu. I even showed her my other favorites (like Jason) and she said she still liked Yuzu's style better. Then today I showed her the gif of him helping the mascot at the gala and she said he's so cute and wants one "just like him." Ah, don't we all, mom, don't we all...

God I know... There was this one time I was just skating forward, literally just skating forward, and rather slowly at that. Out of the corner of my eye I see this young woman coming at me, so she ends up bumping into me and tries to grab me to hold on. In the end I managed to stay upright but she fell. So I help her up, ask her if she's ok (and half expecting an apology because she's the one who bumped into me), and she glares at me and tells me to watch my back! Me: .....

I don't know any skaters who do the cuts themselves because for the most part, I only know kids, but technically, you can, since you provide the music. At my rink a lot of kids have one of the coaches do the cuts for a small fee.

MitF tests only test for specific moves (i.e. crossovers in a figure 8 pattern). Each test has a set of moves you do in a certain order, but there is no music. Freestyle tests include music. Generally, people take MitF before Freestyle because you have to compete at your freestyle level, but MitF doesn't affect the competition level. This allows young skaters to stay in a category for a bit longer, which makes it more likely to do well in competition.

Hahaha yeah, I wish I could try Ballade too. But the con fuoco part just looks insane to me. So many voices, so musically complex. Even if I managed to get the notes, I wouldn't be able to play it 1/100th as well as Zimerman... But I'm really looking forward to this book, it looks a lot more doable!

Yes, pre-bronze is the first test you take at the adult level. Iirc, the skills tested are: - Forward stroking around the rink, with crossovers at the corners - Crossovers in a figure 8 pattern - Edges on a line - Spirals (on a flat, if you want) - Waltz eight I'm working on it too, but I'm definitely not there yet. I haven't been practicing as much, and my back CW crossovers are pathetic hahaha.
