  1. That'd be awesome. Sometimes during the Olympics, CBC will do short documentary fluff pieces about big-name foreign athletes to go along with their coverage of the Canadian teams and of the sports, but in recent years their budget has been kind of lean so it seems like they've stopped doing that. But to tell you to the truth, I'm surprised they haven't done a full-on Brian Orser/TCC doc for the Passionate Eye (and covered Yuzu in that). It's such a Canadian story in every regard. It's exactly the kind of thing that fits their mandate. As for NBC, expecting an American station to cover non-American athletes at any point in time is a stretch. It's just not what their audiences are after as far as I can tell.
  2. Honestly, I think it's the colour. That pale, sea foamy blue doesn't look good on anybody.
  3. Yes, I thought that when we first saw him in Dory at FaOI Makuhari. At the very least, his muscle is starting to fill out and he looks less noodle-y in the chest, shoulders and arms.
  4. Never underestimate Mr. Hanyu. Even for this.
  5. Monday is a civic holiday here in Ontario. In other words, it's a long weekend for us so I doubt there'll be an announcement Monday. Regarding TCC doing a Muskoka run: I seriously do hope Yuzu decides to go with them and gets to experience cottage country. Muskoka is like nowhere else on earth, it's the best place to be in summer. I can easily envision Yuzu kicking back and enjoying the sun dockside...
  6. In all seriousness, I think this is probably why we won't see him do Prince again. But something in a similar vein would be awesome. It's fun seeing Yuzu express his, hmm, what the Japanese might call his 'carnivorous' side. @Neenah : apologies but I have 20/400 nearsightedness and even without my glasses I can still see the 8 point font if I lean in close, so it never once occurred to me that anyone else would at all have trouble with it.
  7. Same. He as much as said he was ready to unveil a whole new self during CiONTU. Or around then. Something about skating for himself now and only doing what he wanted to do. If what he wants to do is prance around in the Purple Pants of Sin, I'm all for it.
  8. Agreed, but given the change in length of the programs, even the warhorses aren't going to be the same. The music will have to be altered to fit the program length and in general it'll all have to flow with a different rhythm (in terms of the overall dynamics of the program), so are warhorses even going to be that safe or useful of a choice? That's my thinking.
  9. Look, ma, I'm a Sparkly ruffle now!! Yay!
  10. Nah. he's done warhorses. Besides, are there any that are 4 mins instead of 4min 30? Jazz seems to be a bit of a theme at TCC. If we're talking warhorses, it would be cool to see Yuzu try his hand at Rhapsody In Blue.
  11. There's nothing that says he can't do another Prince song. There's plenty of nose-bleed inducing goodness there to choose from. I already cast my vote for Little Red Corvette, but I could see Jeffrey trying to convince him to do When Doves Cry or Kiss too... envisions Yuzu 'not intending to be sexy' to the strains of Prince singing: You don't have to be rich To be my girl You don't have to be cool To rule my world Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with I just want your extra time and your Kiss, Oh oh .... dies.
  12. Lord have mercy, that would kill us all...
  13. How do you even get pictures like this? Just have a camera going non-stop with a high-speed shutter and hope you get lucky?
  14. Italian greyhounds, IMO. Because of the delicate bone structure.
  15. It would be awesome to have one by an English language channel, but I guess it's unlikely? God bless all the fans who toil to put English subtitles on the Japanese vids.
  16. Competitive swimmers, who are training about 4 - 6 hrs a day in cold water, eat around 5000 kcal, so 3000 kcal for Yuzuru sounds about right to me.
  17. Undoubtedly. And now I'm trying to understand what the mechanics of the Lutz jump are, that would make it extra painful for someone with an injured right foot to land. Especially if the take off is from the left. I get why it would injure the left foot because you're trying to apply extreme leverage on the left outside edge. I'm not yet clear on what it does to the right foot during takeoff and landing though.
  18. Yes. This. And if you were a Canadian skating fan back in that era, it was painfully obvious what was going on. What comes to mind is Isabelle and Paul Duchesnay in ice dance. for the better part of a decade in the 80's-early 90's, they were the most innovative, exciting, and technically perfect dance team on the ice - and they could never, ever, ever score higher than third place in any competition. We all knew it, everyone watching them knew it - it was painful after a while. the Russians and Americans would always score ahead of them no matter what they put out on the ice. Even the uneducated eye could see it.... Matters came to a head at 2002 in Salt Lake City and after that everything changed. As Kurt Browning once said in an interview, "They changed the scoring and right away, boom, Stephane Lambiel is World Champion. A Swiss skater. Before that it was unheard of, a Swiss could never have won under the old system." IMO the only skater scored under the old system who's still around and actually deserved his wins was Plushenko.
  19. I loved that interview. Found the whole thing somewhere on YouTube and watched it...I learned SO much myself. Nomura is a natural-born teacher, and Hanyu is like the ultimate student - he's just a sponge. It was electric watching them interact, and made me jealous that I don't have learning opportunities like that in my life. I feel like Nomura is going to do Tokyo 2020 proud.
  20. Same. I know Keegan is the Canadian skater and I'm supposed to be patriotic, and it would be nice if he got it, but I'm a satellite for a reason. I really would love to see Yuzu do it first. So guys, am I missing something about 4Lz here? We're all talking about how the take-off would put too much strain on his ankle, and I can see how it would, but in the videos that have been posted, it looks like the take-off is actually from the other foot. In which case, then it really is the landing that's the problem. Has anyone ever calculated the relative angular torque on the ankles that each jump creates? I'd love to know how they rank in terms of the forces involved. @CupidsBow great pics! I absolutely love the ones of Yuzu with Soohoorang. So sweet!
  21. I see this, I think 'perfect raw material for the LGC hair. Fetch the hair gel!'
  22. Well, maybe. However, its very obvious that he really, really, really likes axel jumps and does them easily. Whereas his Lutz, even the 3Lz, never seemed like that to me, it seemed more like something he really had to work on. IMO that tips the balance in favor of sooner rather than later for 4A. But I would be shocked if we see any sign of it before December at earliest.
