Yes indeed. Imagine the effect on my 17 year old self when I first saw this on TV. ...and it was a brilliant program , too, very comedic and light. The costume was just...

Some people look ridiculous in glitter, though, and Patrick would definitely be one of them. Nathan, I don't know, but i suspect the same.

For my money, Brian's worst was always this one: why, Brian, why?
-
They all should have been watching it too anyway...:D

I instantly visualized this, and now I can't un-see it. Brian was probably all: on the inside, while outwardly being all like 'We got this, we can do it, yeah...'

Just in general, the people at TCC seem to be very good about being discreet and not leaking pics. Considering how many people must be using the place who know nothing or almost nothing about FS, but would probably realize that Hanyu's famous, that's some kind of a miracle. I don't know how the TCC does it, but kudos to them

Wouldn't surprise me, it's pretty common for Canadian sports teams to do something along those.lines. My competitive swim club always had a year-end banquet.

I would not put it past him

Mura was such a good sport about all that.

You ever get the feeling that Brian immensely enjoys gently teasing Yuzu with stuff like this?

Those furry animal costumes Javi's been such a good sport about for commercials orange ruffly calypso anything oversized FaOI 2018 Disney prince anything even remotely resembling 99% of the Russian men's costumes in Plushenko's era... generic toy soldier men's FS style (see also: Kevin Reynolds, Dmitri Aliev)

When I look at these, what strikes me the most is how little his tastes have changed. I bet he was the kind of kid brother that was always fascinated with his sister's glam Barbie doll clothes...

except that if some paparazzo happens to see him out with her, no matter who else they might also be out with, it'll be game over for all of their privacy, you know...bad enough that tabloid made a thing out of one - ONE - blurry photo that supposedly shows they're not living in the same apartment building together...

That last spin though. He steps into it from an almost complete standstill, yet reaches full rotation speed by the end anyway. How the heck does he DO that? I mean, obviously, he won't be doing it like that in competition, he'll be moving at speed, but the fact that he doesn't need much momentum to build his spin up is actually really amazing and shows his mastery over his craft.

Not unless something really, really amazing has happened to Kevin since 4CC 2018.

She listened, but I think she was trying not to laugh at me.

I know that back when Nam Nguyen was training with TCC, he mentioned on his social media that he tried to help Yuzu practise English. Personally I think Yuzu's doing pretty well, it's just that his ability in English isn't up to the level where he can easily express the things he wants to say, the way he says them in Japanese. (I've seen commentary by translators online about how good his use of language is, in Japanese, that he's very poetic and thoughtful with his words. If that's the case, then it makes speaking English doubly frustrating for him because he's trying to say complicated things a lot of the time.) He seems to be able to understand English pretty well though.

When you consider I'm old enough that I could have teenage kids...!
-
So today I went out to lunch with a friend, and while we were catching up I happen to mention I'm going to Toronto in a couple weeks time. One thing lead to another and suddenly I found myself trying to explain about Hanyu....and burbling and giggling like a teenage girl talking about her first crush...see what you cause, Yuzu?

They would depose Putin and make Yuzu Tsar, ending a century of revolution in the process...
-
Same. I'm all

On the other hand, it would be held in much larger arenas...

This. This would be EVERYTHING!!!

1. If she'd been on the ball as regards motivating skaters, chances are he wouldn't have fallen into the funk that made him leave in the first place. 2. The words themselves make it sound like she had given up on him, too. 3. In a situation like that, "whatever makes you happy" actually sounds like she wasn't all that invested in his success. 'I understand' would have made more sense. It's not about her words for me, but the attitude behind them. A coach should care passionately about providing everything an athlete needs for their success. Zoueva's words there tell me that she had stopped caring.

before I comment, please bear in mind that everything I say is based only on observations I've made from what is publicly in the media, since I absolutely don't know the people involved on a personal level, but: I suspect that Zoueva can be a very soft and comforting kind of a person, and for a certain type of athlete that's really appealing (certainly for someone with the kind of challenges Gracie Gold is having, it would be). But it can backfire. There's a quote in one of the articles published right around the time Patrick made his move last year from Zoueva to Walia, where Patrick says there's no ill feelings between him and her, that she told him "'Patrick, whatever makes you happy, I'm happy you've found a place where you could regain that energy,'", and I read that, and I thought "What the heck kind of a coach even says that to an athlete of theirs?!!" It's so laissez-faire and just downright lazy. Especially at elite levels of sport, it's part of the coach's job to help their athletes stay motivated and win the mental game, and that comment of hers just shows how little she understands that side of the job.
