Poll - When/How did you become a fan of Yuzu?
HoneyGoldLev replied to PomeloPooh's topic in Yuzuru Hanyu
This is a fun thread, thanks PomeloPooh for coming up with it! First heard about Yuzuru: I was a long time casual fan of figure skating. Back then, I only follow ladies sector, and rooted for Kim Yuna to win Sochi 2014. But then the score-rigging scandal happened. I was so mad and and promised myself to leave figure skating because of that. But the last thing I heard before leaving was that there's a new rising star in men division. "The sensational Japanese teenager that took Sochi by storm", "First Japanese man to win Gold at Olympic", were a few headlines that I read, but I didn't bother since I was still angry with FS in general. First watch Yuzuru's program: It was mid 2016, when I stumbled upon Yuzu's Seimei performance at GPF 2015 in Youtube recommendation list. When I first saw it I was like "What the hell did I just watch??? Who is this guy??? I'm emotional". Be damned with my promise, but I need to know more about him lol. So I searched about him and alas, he's the same guy that won Sochi 2014. I literally laughed when I realized that. But at that time, I still considered myself as a casual fan who just appreciates great skating, I only watched his past programs in Youtube and didn't really follow the competition. First became a real fan: But what made me started to really stanning Yuzu was because of Nathan Chen (thank you, Nathan!). Someone shared video of Nathan Chen's LP at US Nationals in my FB news feed. The person was impressed with the 5 quads that he did. But when I watched it, I didn't feel the connection like I felt when I watch Yuzu's programs. So out of curiosity, I searched for other people's opinion in forums. That's when I found out other things as well, that Yuzu as a person is just all kinds of goodness, and then about his struggles and constant strive for perfection. I started to feel this connection on a more personal level with him. Then it just goes "downhill" from there. And here I am now, actively posting in Planet Hanyu. Oh and I'm one of the few that watch Yuri on Ice after I know about Yuzu and because people keep relating the anime to him lol- 249 replies

:goe: :goe: :goe: One thing I lovee about Yuzu is that he's not afraid to wear costume like this to accentuate the program's artistry and delicacy, and still ROCK the costume like no other. Men who's like this are so ahsjkslslkdf

This I wholeheartedly agree. Quoting Kurt Browning during WC LP broadcast, "He gave the judges... NO excuse, not to throoow the book (meaning: give all the high points) out at him"
-
I think Yuzu said it himself during an interview with Japanese media that when he did the SP at WTT, he started to doubt himself, that maybe he's not good with SP and a lot of bad images started to appear in his head.. When I read that I was like... Yuzu, don't TT___TT Ur great, okay, don't doubt yourself
-
Hahaha totally agree with men inconsistent in general. I mean not to put down on anyone, but Nathan finished at 6th at WC definitely surprised anyone, when 2 months earlier he landed 5 quads in an LP. And yes, in general, Yuzu IS more consistent than the others. But my point is, although some commentators did exaggerate about Yuzu not performing well (that's why in my first post I said I was a bit lukewarm with the talk), we shouldn't really jump on everyone that says Yuzu can be inconsistent, because well, he can be some times. @Floria: Yeap, totally right about peaking when the pressure is the highest this season. As I said, I'm so glad Yuzu won the WC, it's the best start for him. But going into the Olympic season, there are a lot of factors. The slightest issue can affect the mental condition a lot. And this is what he always wanted, even more than Sochi, so the pressure will be 10 fold, if not higher. So yea, I'm really hoping he can also peak at the right time next season.

Um lol chill a bit. I actually think they are quite complimentary to Yuzuru if you actually listen to the podcast. From the tone of their voice, their word choice and their figure of speech, I think they genuinely think Yuzuru is the man to beat and if he is clean he would win. I would argue that the tone of how they talk about Yuzuru is even nicer than some (some, not all) Japanese media who sometimes paints a narrative as if Yuzuru is really threatened by the younger guys. They really think Yuzuru is still the top guy if he delivers. I think the question is not that "Can he deliver under pressure?", because he can, he definitely can, we've seen many instances. And for the ridiculous amount of pressure put on him, we all agree that he performed exceptionally well. But the question should be, "Can he deliver under pressure at the right time?" Because like it or not, we need to admit that Yuzu can be... a bit inconsistent some times. He can crumble down under pressure. Yes, there's injury and whatnot, but WTT is an example where well... he can not-deliver under pressure as well. And that's okay, he's a human after all (no, actually he's an alien), and I dare say that his humanistic side is what makes me care about him a lot more. So yea, everybody knows his the best out there in terms of the whole package. He's on another level really. But his biggest enemy right now is himself, in the form of mental pressure and self-doubt. That's why winning the WC is indeed important, not to prove anything to anyone or add more medal collection, but just to give him that morale booster he really needs.

Thanks for the recap, mcq! Altho I'm kinda lukewarm with the way they talked about Yuzu as if he hasn't been performing well for a looonggg time (hello? GPF'16 SP, 4CC LP please), but they totally summed up my thought about why winning the 2017 WC is really important for Yuzu. And really like the fact that they said going into the olympic season, Yuzu for them is still the best skater out there, even tho the top has been crowded now (when was the last time you have the term BIG 6 in FS btw??), and even IF he didn't win the WC. That's Yuzuru Hanyu for you, ladies and gentleman... The ultimate king

Ah okay I see.. Thanks lily I think I read somewhere this morning that Yuzu is already back in Canada.. Wishing him a fruitful and injury-less training session

Here is another picture with her Yuzu's having a lot of fun This is so cute. I always love to see when a coach can still maintain a good relationship with his/her former athlete. Haven't backtrack this thread a lot, but this means Yuzu is still in Japan?

Halo2! Wah ternyata rame juga ya orang Indo yg jadi fanyu hahaha... Salam kenal! Nama panggilan: Lev Domisili: Negeri Singa (Singapura), kerja full-time. Asli kota sih Jakarta Sejak kapan suka Yuzu: Pertengahan 2016. Ktemu Seimei langsung kepincut lol Soal jinx... Bner bgt yg bilang Yuzu ini patternnya mirip Dick Button. Dick Button kan pas menang gold pertama kali juga masih umur belasan gtu. Pokoknya pas Yuzu menang gold di Sochi itu pada bilangnya Yuzu youngest Gold medalist since Dick Button 60 years ago. Nah trus sebelum Dick Button menang gold yg kedua berturut2, dy juga menang World Championship tahun sebelumnya. Jadi positive thinking aja gw, Yuzu got a good chance utk menang gold di Pyeongchang (aminnnn)

Shippers are welcomed in the Church of the Purple Pants If you're not a member yet just send in a request under usergroups. But remember, all those who enter must abandon all innocence at the door Ahh alrite, I just checked the Church lol. So many threads to check now. Thanks for the info! *heading there straightaway

Hey everyone! This is the first time I posted in the General chat thread ahahaha... #fail Just wondering, is anyone interested if we make sort of a shippers-paradise thread? Like to ship Yuzu with let say Zhenya (and to share related photos, tweets, etc of course). I always wanted to see that kind of thread, but that sorts of fluff are kinda... out of place in GS. Now that we have Planet Hanyu, should we make one? XD

LOL your dad! Yes, iirc he changed his costume for PW at Sochi (mid-season) to blue because he feels like it is his lucky color. Pyeongchang still feels soooo far away from now  It's okay to be wierd like that. I am too  . Other then his early age costumes I like almost all of them including the boobskirt (RJ2). Yeaa weird unite *insert group hug emoji here*.. I'm not sure if you realized, but if we google for boobskirt, the first few image result will be Yuzuru's R&J2.0 photo

Aahh this is interesting! Question, can one person submit more than one entry? Then, how do we submit our entry (or entries)? Post here, email, or?
-
Why only 2??? :roll2: For SP, it's a clear cut for me, PW. For LP... Seimei and H&L are tied. TIED YOU SEE.... But if I really have to choose one, I guess it would be Seimei, for its energy and uniqueness (very Japanese program, we don't see that everyday)

I'm one of the minority that loveee his R&J2 costume. It's really my favorite, especially the arms part. Yes, including the illusion mesh. I'm weird like that. Seimei comes second just because it suits the program very well! For next season, I hope he's wearing something blue again, as it seems to be his lucky color. And white pants..... I think I will love it :D
