Otoh, it's probably best for Yuzu not to be so closely associated with such an unpopular event in Japan, and it's certainly safer that he didn't have to travel there. Frankly, I'm appalled that they've pushed forward with the Olympics when COVID cases in Tokyo have been hitting all time highs. New cases continually being reported at the Games too. I hope the athletes and everyone else can stay safe. If Yuzu declined participating in the torch relay or some other role, that would be fine, and I would not be surprised given his desire not to encourage crowds. However if JSF included Rika, Shoma, and others, but purposely excluded him, then yeah, JSF! I'm happy for Naomi, but I'm quite cynical about the way they run these events these days so I also think it's all about the highest profile person who will generate the most $$$. Personally I think the honor should go to a veteran Olympian, but I'm not familiar with how they've chosen people to light the cauldron in the past.

That's my understanding also. And since it takes 2 weeks after their shot for full protection, they won't be fully protected until around end of August. I hope that Yuzu was able to get his shot early enough so that he will at least have full protection from his 1st shot by the time he has to do his Olympic duties. Even having only 1 shot is supposed to give you good protection against the virus.

Rika also got her shot recently, so hopefully they scheduled Yuzu's shot earlier since he will most likely be taking part in the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony. Usually there are minimum side effects with the 1st shot, but it varies with ppl, so better to play it safe.

Good point. Although the athletes are still representing their country. Their parents and friends are all watching. They've put in a ton of hard work and many have made sacrifices along the way to get there. Not only the athletes themselves, but oftentimes their family have also made sacrifices. So I think the athletes will try their best to place as high as they can and while they might not make top 20, a personal best at the Olympics will still feel really good! Maybe after their competition, they might go wild and engage in some extra-curricular activities to blow off all that pent-up stress. ETA: I agree with @Henni147 and hope that the athletes will show some restraint given the current circumstances though.

@Henni147 The images and videos of the floods are heartbreaking. Hope you and your family stay safe and the affected regions can recover quickly. Maybe his swimming capabilities are like mine. I never took swimming lessons and it was just family and friends giving me tips. I can float and go a short distance, but pretty much have to stop and stand up after a bit. For a while, I belonged to a 24-hour gym that had an indoor 4-foot lap pool and that worked out well for me since I could stop whenever I needed to. I also made good use of a kickboard. So Yuzu can certainly use a pool for some training even if he has limited swimming skills, especially if he has access to one that he can use in the wee hours of the night when there is probably nobody there. There was another picture of Ghislain posted a while ago and I didn't recognize him at all! It's good to see him looking healthy and happy here! Glad to hear that his family is safe too. So much scary weather these days. Maybe that was his motivation to diet because Yuzu was so annoying with his 6-pack jokes and belly pats.

I noticed they were Ice Flys too, but the boot looks brand new, no scratches or anything, so it does not look like it was used. Maybe he just autographed it. Not sure where you're getting that from. Yuzu said he has no plans to return to Canada for now. It's still difficult to travel to Canada with the current border restrictions. He may change his mind later. According to JSF vaccination plans, he's not even fully vaccinated, so it's not safe for him to travel.

Hope Sekkisei has a lot of that Pure Conc lotion in stock cuz that is going to fly off their shelves real quick! So Yuzu is not fond of insects??? But he thinks bees are cute and he rescues bugs from the ice rink. Well, I guess he doesn't like all bugs. Good. Now I don't feel so guilty when I smash a bug in the house cuz I used to think Yuzu would disapprove. Lol. I would be wary about anything that man says. He's proven time and again that he has a bias against Yuzu, so I would not be surprised at all if he is "selectively interpreting" what Brian said to stir up controversy. Brian has Yuzu's phone number, and I'm sure he can contact him. If Yuzu has not told Brian about his plans, he probably hasn't decided yet.

Unfortunately I don't remember which interview it was. I recall him talking about the height required for 4A and that he could not obtain that height just by going into the jump at a faster speed because he might hit his head if he fell. If I find it, I will post it.

In recent interviews where he talked about training 4A, he said that he cannot go into the jump with too much speed because he might hit his head when he falls, so he is definitely trying to protect himself while training that monster.

Thanks for the upload. Such great memories! They ran the fog machine to give the gala some "atmosphere". It didn't make for good pictures or videos though! Lol. And I think some people are just not bothered by pain as much. My brother often crashed and burned on his skateboard, bicycle, mountain bike, dirt bike, etc. It never stopped him from launching himself into the air off of some ramp, etc. A trip to Urgent Care for some stitches and wounds bandaged and as soon as he was healed, he was back at it again. I'm sure my mom has lost many years of her life raising him. Mama Hanyu probably relates. I heard that China was going to see what happens with the Tokyo Olympics before deciding, but that really doesn't give them much time to make arrangements. I also heard that it's likely they will keep pandemic restrictions until the end of 2022, so Beijing Olys is really starting to look impossible. With Japan comps also looking impossible, the most likely opportunity to see Yuzu would be COR But even that, Russia needs to lift travel restrictions too, and there's still the ticket battle. Plus sitting inside an arena with thousands of unmasked, screaming fans during a pandemic is not really the best thing. How's the vaccination rate in Russia? I really hope Yuzu will continue after Olys, because it will be too cruel for it to be his last season with no chance to see him! I still think he will do PW because he knows the Sochi audience will love that, and it may be his way of thanking them. Skate Canada has adopted a Concussion Protocol although they don't always follow it. . There definitely should be a standard protocol in place for all competitions and not left to each Fed, or the athletes and coaches.

I only thought of PW because I know he skated it as a gala program before, plus it was his record-breaking program at Sochi, so good memories for him. All this talk of visas and booking accommodations gets me excited and makes me think that I should try too... but then you remind me there's still a pandemic going on. I'm not really comfortable planning travel yet either. I thought SCI might be ok since Canada has been more careful about trying to control the virus, but Russia has been . But the lineup for COR is so amazing. Not only Yuzu, but also Roman, Keiji, and Kazuki! Plus I also enjoy Camden and Matteo, and I really want to see Misha skate live!!! Does the hotel have to be near the venue to provide the documentation? I haven't looked into it, but maybe all well-known hotels can provide the documentation? I can't believe I'm contemplating going to Russia.... only for Yuzu! Then there are the comps in Japan. I know tickets will be a bloodbath, but if they reopen borders, do you think there will be a lottery for foreigners? Plus there's also Beijing Olys, and sorting out the visa situation there and whether or not we'll be able to attend.

He said he was looking for some piano music, but couldn't find anything that really caught his attention, so he ended up choosing LMEY because he thought the upbeat song would cheer people up during the pandemic. So people speculated that he would return to a piano music SP for the Oly season. However he also said he liked the BTS choreo and wanted to learn from it so he can incorporate it into his SP, so that makes it sound like he might keep LMEY, or if he wanted a new SP, he might not go with piano music. Some people are saying maybe he might debut a new SP at DOI? But what about a new EX? I'm thinking he might want to do PW as his EX at Rostelecom cuz Sochi. He's planning to keep TTCT, but if he also keeps LMEY, then I think we'll get a new EX. Maybe new EX reveal at DOI! Hopefully Yuzu's beautiful skating will revive your interest! But stay far, far away from the rest of the FS drama!
