Yup that's right. Every year, twice a year http://www.kunaicho.go.jp/e-about/kyuchu/enyukai.html

Oh come on, you know you want it we all do OT but does anyone know where this gif set comes from?

Quick translation! The sample print of 'Yuzuru Hanyu: the miracle of an endless challenge' is ready! Will reach distributors on April 27 and will hit bookstores from May 1. The lineup for the next issues of the 'Winter Athlete' non-fiction series is also revealed! (Yuzuru Hanyu, Noriaki Kasai, Nao Kodaira, Sara Takanashi, Nana Takagi, Curling Girls) Sounds like it's a series on the PC athletes and Yuzu is the first one up!

I'm a huge newbie (so please correct me if I'm wrong fellow satellites!) but from what one of the coaches at my rink told me, 'pointing your toes' in skates means to plantar flex the foot i.e. toes should be bent away rather than towards you. TSL has talked about it a lot. Yuna Kim never pointed her toes and it's something David Wilson still can't live down I'll see if I can find some example photos to embed later as I'm on my phone right now.

Nope, he didn't adjust them. He just asked me to stand up in them, took a look and seemed satisfied. I can keep the blades flat when standing on two feet but only if I make a conscious effort. It's far more comfortable to let my ankles roll out, and conversely a little hard to push onto my inside edges. Thanks for all the advice! I'm thinking to try skating in them as is, then if I'm having issues I'll try my old orthotics. If that still doesn't work, I'll go back and ask to get the blades re-aligned I think I'm just really freaking out since it was such a big purchase haha. Hopefully it all goes well Thanks again! @guitarist I think I read a few pages back that you had over pronation issues? How did you pick up on it and did you try blade realignment or inserts? Very curious!

I finally bought my first skates! and promptly ran home as fast as I could to make it in time for the parade (which I am still recoiling from) I got the Jackson Freestyles- I did ask to try on other boots but the fitter said that most skaters that come in are told to get Freestyles by their coaches so he recommended them for me too. They felt pretty good- my toes barely touched the end of the skates and my heel fit snugly into the back of the boot without any signs of shifting. I have yet to skate in them but the fitter heat moulded, sharpened and added extra screws to the sole so I'm hoping everything will be okay on the ice. I bought soakers and I was going to buy hard guards too but my wallet has suffered enough damage for today so I decided to get some next time I'm at the rink As soon as I got home I cleaned the blades with a towel, put on soakers and put my skates back in the cardboard box they came in. Is this okay or should I be storing them in a proper gym bag? Also, should I leave the laces tightened or loose while I'm storing the skates? Edit: So I tried my skates on again and I feel like the blade isn't running along the centre of my foot? When I try and balance on one foot, it leans out to the outside edge straight away. Is that normal?

Tell us the whole story! I'm so curious

I'm actually super curious about how his mask works medically Maybe it's to protect his airways from the cold (or whatever his trigger is?) Or it could function like a normal mask and reduce his chances of catching something and getting an exacerbation? Hmmm.... Typical Yuzu though, considering he loves customising everything
-
I think whether he participates in ice shows this off season isn't dependent on his condition anymore, but more so whether he has enough time. He's still got a bit of rehab, jump retraining and new programs to make. I dont think it's impossible though, knowing how unpredictable he is
-
Is there a way to check if it's actually coming from the hips? My knees face out when I do it but I'm not sure if that's supposed to happen.
-
To be fair, the Daily Mail is quite literally the trashiest tabloid out there. I don't know anyone who takes anything they publish seriously They've got about as much credibility as the French Skating Federation's budget team, so I wouldn't worry too much.
-
Random question but how do you make sure you're turning out properly? I just randomly tried today and I managed 180 degrees but I did force the last 20 degrees or so a little and I've heard forcing it is reeeeaaally bad... Whoops
-
I'm sad to see his say goodbye to his competitive programs from this season, but I have no doubts that we'll see them again in ice shows in the future. And knowing Yuzu, he's going to go bigger and better next season so we've got a lot to look forward to
-
Based on the way he was flawlessly executing all those step sequences and spins at CiONTU, I'd say Yuzu is definitely ready to make some new programs
-
Oh no Hopefully it wasn't a big rip? But hey, I feel like wardrobe malfunctions are a rite of passage for figure skaters so I guess you can say you've officially made it!
-
That's amazing! I'm so excited for you Competing sounds like so much fun- the choreo, costumes and music!
-
I will never get tired of watching that sorry Yuzu
-
I can feel the judgement from here lol. Yuzu sees all. I feel for Shouma though. Sometimes I can barely keep my eyes open in class. I've even fallen asleep in the front row of a lecture before

Prepare yourselves my fellow cacti...a torrential rain is coming...We must burn everything into our brains to survive the great annual drought that will follow

Kinda OT but today I started a new hospital rotation. I was hanging out in the doctor's room and the radio was on. Just as I sat down, Chopin's Ballade No 1 started playing and I couldn't stop grinning like an idiot
-
Yup, I'm definitely going to keep an open mind towards brands. I just needed an idea of what stiffness was okay to get for my level. All this boot talk is making me excited
-
Oooh, what boots are you using now?
-
Awesome, thanks for all info! There has to be at least one good fitter in my city so I'll investigate and choose carefully Thanks again guys!
-
Hmm, I'd like to get some now but I was planning on getting boots that would cover me up to single jumps (something like the Jackson Freestyles). And I don't know if the level of skating I'm doing right now will be enough to break them in. I don't have a coach yet either so I won't have a good idea of what boots will be most appropriate for me in terms of stiffness. I've heard some fitters underboot/overboot and because I'm so new I won't know if they're giving good advice or not I might ask around at my next group lesson What do you guys think?
-
I'm still using rentals I promised myself I'd only get my own boots once I got close to starting crossovers but I'm so tempted to get some now
