  1. Stephen is what 13? This year is his first year as a Junior isn't it? He's part of the Junior GP? In 4 years he will be 17. You think he will get the PCS score needed to beat seasoned skaters by that point to be a OGM threat? Men, until recent years, unlike ladies field, aren't handed out PCS candies by the judges on their first senior year. Even Nathan didn't get his crazy PCS score until second season and 6 quad programs. Now the judges have seen it, I don't think they'd be so quick to reward a skater for doing so many quads. Brian has mentioned Stephen still needs to work on the everything in between the jumps so I always read that as he's technically advanced right now but not developed as a skilled skater yet. 17 also means Stephen will be going through growing pains. Unless he gets it really early stays relatively slim and compact, I see his jumps suffering. I just don't see him being a legitimate threat for the next Olympics. The one after that, heck yeah! Also, I don't have Twitter so can't vote. My answer would have been Shoma. He hasn't been in too many ice shows this summer. He did some in the beginning, took a long break while he's training, and is now using the ice shows to practice his programs. I think he's hungry. Edit: I can't believe just a few days later Denis is gone. RIP D10.
  2. Jumping in with the alcohol intolerance. A lot of asian people lack the enzyme or whatever gene that breaks down alcohol. It's what gives us asian flush or asian glow or whatever. Some people just get red in the face, some people develop hives/rashes (I'm unfortunately that camp). It's not an actual allergy since it's not a specific type of alcohol, rather all alcohol. It also means we might get drunk quicker or the alcohol stay in our system longer. I noticed if I drink multiple days, the hives get worst on subsequent days. Alcohol used in disinfectant is a lot different from drinking alcohol. Yuzu might be allergic to the topical alcohol. I read his quote about trying sake as he just doesn't drink it often and can't handle his liquor. It's to be expected. I've been drinking for 20 years and still have no tolerance.
  3. Every. Single. Time. I see the purple pants of sin, I'm staring hard to figure out where the panty line is located. I just can't help it. I really want to know.
  4. It's been like that since the first showing. Plus we know how good of care Yuzu (and mama Hanyu) takes with his costumes. It's a bit distracting when he's more stationary and raising his arms, but works well when he's skating.
  5. Well it worked. I want wallets made of that material now. Unfortunately, having experienced the traditional Okinawa fabric made into wallets and how much they cost (more than a Michael Kors handbag), I probably can't/won't afford a Sendaihira one.
  6. I think he did. He puckered up and when he started pulling up his lips were parted. Seems to me like there's contact.
  7. Her last name is Kobayashi. All of the sudden I have a hankering to watch The Usual Suspect. OT, I work with a person name Kobayashi. I want to ask him if he's ever seen that movie, but I resist. *pats own shoulder at restraint* So the lady sitting with Yuzu while he's wearing Hakama and kind of instructing/guiding him during the awards?
  8. Not the cute little Japanese lady that sat with Yuzu at the Sochi Olympics when he broke 100 pt right? I noticed her at this year's Olympics as well. Or is she the former JSF president or not the president of any kind and just a JSF official? I'm so confused.
  9. I don't know if someone already answered this, but I'm not sure anyone other than the Hanyu family are supposed to use that crest. It was more of a big deal back in the Shogun days where they are put on flags to signal friend or foe, but I think there's still a thing where you shouldn't use it unless you have the right to. For the more famous emblems, they put it on temples and logos for their company, but I don't think Hanyu crest is that famous. I don't recommend it? Oh and Yuzu_Kanami on Instagram posted a long Japanese post about the history behind the Hanyu crest. If my google translate is correct, it's been around for 300 years.
  10. Yuzuru and ill fitting suit is forever tied together along with Yuzu and his love of gold, and Yuzu and his love of flowy fabric blinged out to dazzle.
  11. Does anyone know how long that family crest has been around? Do all families have one or only "older" families? Or can you create one if you don't have one?
  12. The smartest thing ANA did was lock him down as a sponsored skater when he was fresh on the senior circuit.
  13. It's a giant gold disc. Yuzu's favorite color. Either that's what they always look like or they know him well.
  14. I believe that's his family crest on his Hakama right? edit: oops already answered previously.
  15. This reminds me of all the speculating in GS about Yuzu not being selected to the Olympics due to his injury. Who did they THINK JSF was going to send? Delusional antis are delusional. How quickly they will change their tune if their favorite ever miss out on their qualifying event due to injury or illness.
  16. I think when they use nicknames like that, they tend to only use 1 syllable since yuzu-chan is a little harder to pronounce than Yu-chan. I'm called Ya-chan by my Japanese colleagues and my coworker (named Michelle) is called Mi-chan. I'm guessing in informal setting that's what Shinya would use. It's also not just a age thing I don't think. Sure if Shinya is slightly older, Yuzu would be Yu-chan. They also called people Senpai or sensai if the other person have mastery over something they are learning from so in this instance Shinya is the pianist arranging music for Yuzu so I can see another reason why Yuzu would be Yu-chan. edit: then again I'm female so chan makes since. Not sure at all about kun etc
  17. I posted this on another thread, but most of the Dai/Yuzu rivalry comments seem to be on this thread so I'll post it here. Speaking of Daisuke returning to competitive skating, I saw a few people complaining on Tumblr about Hanyu anti coming out in force, coincidently/or not to Daisuke's returning announcement. I've always been under the impression, based on GS, that a lot of Hanyu Anti's were originally Daisuke fans and then transferred their devotion to Shoma. Is that actually the case or am I just seeing things that aren't there?
  18. This was recent! This after Yuzu's WR setting Chopin and Semei? What are they CRAZY? Is this in Japan? What the? okay that's next level crazy. Daisuke at the time had been retired for 2 years. Why are they messing with their own Olympic and World champion.
  19. Is that when the audience booed Yuzuru for beating Dai and inspired a legion of Hanyu Antis that persist to this day?
  20. Oh I didn't know he wants to come back for only one season. That makes sense actually since Worlds is in Japan and the regret he has was not being able to go to Worlds in 2014 when it was last in Japan. I still don't think, unless he's much further along on training and kept it quiet this whole time, that he'll regain back in form so quickly to be able to make the World team. Sure the Japanese men field is not as crazy deep as during the height of Dai's competitive career, but it wasn't like before where there's only 1 sure-fire placement (ironically it was Daisuke). 2nd and 3rd were up for grabs (which Yuzu usually grabbed). Now days, 1st and 2nd Japanese men are locked down. Keiji has benefited from a weaker field this last 2 years, but Tomono had a great Worlds outing and can compete. I don't think JSF is just going to name Daisuke without a good showing at Nationals

  22. I really don't think so unless he's been practicing for much longer. I just read the full interview with Daisuke, Nobu, and Tanaka and I think this was done back in April. Daisuke mentioned he wants to get back his skating since he's been away for so long. I really doubt he'd be ready for NHK that quickly.
