The problem with calling it an "artistry" competition is that the term is so nebulous. What is artistry? Is it skating skills? Transitions? If there are no jumps or spins, transitions into what? Or the other more "artistic" PCS components like choreography, presentation, interpretation? And who gets to judge that? Calling it an "artistry" competition just makes it sound so subjective and opens it to a lot of criticism, even if it's unwarranted. Although I have a hard time believing it will be unwarranted. I can see the ISU going the gymnastics route with a spin competition, a jump competition, and an all-around competition (what it currently is). I mean, they did already add the team event. But imagining skaters just spinning all day or jumping all day makes me cringe at how many injuries that might result in -- thinking of Lucinda Ruh's problems with micro-concussions from spinning too much. And various ankles and knees... If the issue is wanting to give out more medals, maybe they could have a short program segment, a free skate segment, and a combined segment, and give out Olympic medals for each. That way skaters could optimize their programs differently and maybe even only skate one of the segments. And we might see a really really beautiful short program from someone who might not be technically strong enough to compete in the free skate, rather than two mediocre programs. It exists, at least in the US, but no one watches it

Do you have banners that you bring to competitions? Or see banners posted by other fans? Share them here! Here's one of mine: And another one. This one is a lucky banner, it's only been to two competitions: 2017 Worlds and 2018 Olympics I tried to find a picture of planet hanyu banner but i couldn't

IIRC they pay his mom a salary, for being a full time employee working for him as well as other employees like Kikuchi-san.. that sounds like a lot but considering she supposedly made $14million in one year at her competitive peak, it's not completely unreasonable. I remember during the Vancouver Olympics Brian and David Wilson would laugh about just how MANY advertisements she was in, everything from home appliances to water to makeup to food. And her ice show is also very successful. When I was in Korea, I saw Yuna's image EVERYWHERE. She has a lot of makeup contracts which pay $$$ especially in Korea. It was also during the Winter Olympics in Korea, too, so she was probably hella marketable during that time. Yuzu doesn't do half as many appearances as Yuna though, considering she's retired and he isn't, and even when she was competing, she didn't always compete the whole season. AND after Vancouver she trained in Korea which helps. So Yuzu could do all of those things but he puts skating first which does limit his "working" time...but I'm sure that also means that when he does do an endorsement, it's special and should be worth more

No idea what his net worth is, but given how popular he is + how successful most nearly ALL his ventures are, i'd say he (hopefully) doesn't have anything to worry about For most sports, the competition earnings aren't...a lot...but it's the endorsements that add up. Figure skating probably isn't one of those sports, but Yuzu is a different story!

That's awesome Congrats to the happy couple!

What! She's so young! Who's the lucky man?

Fast rotation is also a young person thing though. At a certain age, muscles stop being to *twitch* as fast I feel...that's one reason why children can do doubles like it's nothing, getting 2 cm off the ice, but it's MUCH harder for an adult.

I still can't check my 3-turn properly into my Salchow so I am going to try to practice it from a mohawk instead now.

You're right, it might hurt But a 0.1 second kiss is not the same as hydroblade hands grazing the ice for 5-10 seconds maybe -
