I agree. I read the magazine at the convenience store today, and personally the way Hamada talked about Oda was...I don't know, I just didn't like it. HOWEVER, as long as Oda and his agency don't want to (or maybe they can't) reveal the details, this story will not go anywhere. I watched a TV program called "Gogosuma" this afternoon and one of the people at the studio was speculating Oda's agency could not tell us the details because they might be thinking of bringing it to the court, but I highly doubt it. I really hope this whole issue will not affect current skaters at Kansai university.

Very shocking news. I think his writing a blog post in English was very smart move, because now the fans all over the world have noticed this and Kansai University can't ignore him and the situation. (some people in Japanese figures skating world including the media are very good at ignoring or pretending not to notice, as you know.) I wish him and his lovely family all the best.

If I remember correctly, Adam Rippon was one of them and that was the reason why I left him on Twitter But now I believe he just didn't know the system.

Thank you, it is good to know Brian was furious about it

I'm sorry if this was already posted, but Yuzuru also said in this article that he wanted to perfect Origin even if he would take 3 or 4 years...(I don't know if I should laugh or cry ) https://www3.nhk.or.jp/news/html/20190915/k10012083301000.html Hi, everyone. Being his fan for a long time, I complained about his score openly on Twitter for the first time. Oops , wrong thread

Thank you for your explanation. I really hope Jack will be more careful about what he tweets. I can read his Japanese tweets but honestly I always don't understand what he is really trying to tell us even if those are grammatically correct. And I personally don't think Yuzuru is going to have time with Jack in future (more like my hope ).

I've just watched "going" interview and don't have time to translate everything, but Yuzuru says he hasn't reached even 20% at his standard on 4A in the practice before FaOI, so less than 20%. He says he will make time to train the jump and work hard from now on
-
The article also says ISU is thinking figure skating will be more attractive if they increase the number of medal, so they are trying to give gold medal for each technical winner, FS winner, and overall winner. The author also implies the low popularity of figure skating in North America while the competitions and ice shows in Japan are always full house. I take this article as, in short, if the skaters from North America get more medals, figure skating will be more popular and attractive as a sport (or I may be misreading...)

It's that time of the year - coaching changes 2019/2020
yude replied to Fay's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
You must be talking about Nobuo Sato. This article was published in last summer, but here he said he was still coaching with fewer students than before. https://gendai.ismedia.jp/articles/-/56269?page=2 -

I said Shoma's coaching change would never happen, but I was wrong -
Thank you for the information, the invitation says "the secret guest" will be Shuzo Matsuoka (while I had been thinking it would be Plushenko or Javier )

This is my summary of Yuzuru's new interview, the last sentence can be translated differently by each translator so here is mine. Thank you for the quick updates everyone! "GOE difference between his 4T and Nathan's 4Lz was big which came from this season the new rule was applied. But when he thinks about the risk in doing and failing in difficult things, he needs to care about the balance. It was not easy for all skaters to make the programs after GOE rule changed because it was unknown territory for all of them. This season made him consider how to do the things called transition such as steps, turns, one-foot skating in the programs of the next season. He doesn't jump on the same spot on the ice during the programs. Looking at both SP and FS, he jumps in the different places with different routes, changing the tone of the music, and adjusting the timing, etc. He does these details and that is his pride and his style, and if he doesn't care about that anymore, he will be losing his identity (of his skating). It made it clear this season that he has to make programs including his good points and to be able to deal with the evaluation by the judges at the same time." Yuzuru Hanyu is full of sportsmanship, which makes him so great and special

Recently I've been wondering about this word "unbeatable". Japanese media loves to hype the skaters and create intense rivalry, but as far as I know, they don't say "unbeatable" or "no one can beat that!" for any skater during their commentaries or in TV shows, which I think is fair and respectable in a way. Skaters are human, the ice is slippery, and no one knows how the judges will work...

I feel I need to explain about my translation here, I think Honda meant not only 4S but also overall jumps Yuzuru did in WC (I tried to mean it by writing "jumps", but I'm sorry that I made you confused). So basically Honda is saying Yuzuru's landings were looked different and maybe changed for protecting his ankle. But he doesn't say about Yuzuru doing it intentionally or unintentionally. At least, that is my take and nuance from this short article.

One thing for sure for me is Japan is the country underestimate Yuzuru's popularity the most...
-
Thank you for your great translation! Apparently, Yuzuru meant this by writing 肉 on Masanori's forehead. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinnikuman This manga was sooooo popular among the boys, I was also watching its anime when I was a kid

Speaking of Satomi Ito, she says she has been using Sekkisei. It explains well why she has beautiful skin

Thank you for posting this, I am Japanese but I didn't know Birthday had meaning I'm going to share the list with my friends, mine was "Moon Heart" by the way I woke up in the morning and saw Laureus' video and Raya's, Yuzuru is looking good, isn't he? I also enjoyed reading the comments and GIFs under Laureus's tweets

I am not following Miki on SNS but I have never heard of her comment "Yuzuru is successful because of Javi", I wonder where this came from I remember Miki apologized to Yuzuru's fans on twitter saying she was sorry for making them confused about what she said in TV show. To me, Miki and Kozuka are not well spoken when they talk on TV, so I tend not to take them very seriously (I know they are really trying, but still). But this is only my opinion and I don't know how other Japanese fans think

Sure, sorry for my rough translation I got so emotional after watching NHK documentary and I can not sleep

One of the interesting things in Shirota's book for me was that Shirota got a call from Honda's host family saying Takeshi didn't come back home, and Shirota immediately went to Canada and saw he was enjoying the party at his friends' basement and she got really mad So I'm pretty sure he learnt his English in various occasions.
