Ugh... Just rewatched stephane lambiel' s merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence from today's FaoI broadcast.... I now reeeeealy want Yuzu to skate to this music with live pianist at some point in his life...such a beautiful piece of music...:sadPooh:

(Please bless us with more programs after the war-horsey olympic season please‼)

Well, there's a beautifully rendered piece of fanmade vid floating around that wonderfully pieces his Time Traveler and Requiem EXes together to this piece of music...

Has anyone ever skated to Beethoven's Symphony No. 7? I hear it used a lot in soundtracks of movies and TV shows and so thought it must be a popular choice for FS as well but a quick search through YT only turned up the 5th and the 9th. Maybe I haven't been searching hard enough...the build up of that piece is epic and I was wondering what it'd look like with a skating choreo matched with it.

And has anyone here ever seen the Tohoku Winter Lights commercial on YT? The video and the music accompanying it are breathtakingly beautiful. It'd be so terrific if Hanyu were to skate to it as an EX or something, while leaving all the ambient sound in the video inside the track. I love envisioning the union in my head all the time...

Since we're on the topic of Ballade 1, question is, which pianist's interpretation did he use? Or will he use if music edits are updated?

One, is Richter's playing of Ballade 1 on Youtube, and if Yuzu is going for a more intimidating, passionate and fierce Chopin, then Richter might be the pianist to go with. https://youtu.be/v9Dc2u7P1d4 The section for the footwork is intense. Then there's the Cortot version-https://youtu.be/_9GBjQyvtAM (yes, it seems he did slip up a little).

Eh...I want to see Yuzu skate Chopin's Tristesse...

I don't know which interpretation he used, I'd also like to know the answer for it! But the version he used reminds me very much of Maurizio Pollini's style. You can hear his versions here and here and here.

I think Pollini's Chopin Ballade 1 interpretations are absolutely gorgeous, these are my favourites. He plays them with perfect rhythm and speed, or musicality :smiley-love017:

Maybe he used one of this records, or even edited two or more versions together (though I doubt it).

I like both Richter's and Cortot's versions too, especially the former's but to me, Cortot's sounds a bit languid, not fluid or effortless.

I also like Valentina Lisitsa's version, which is quite unique: the slow parts are really slow, but the faster parts are the fastest you could imagine. The step sequence part is just mind-blowing (even with the obvious mistakes).

An another one which I find very, very good is Rubinstein's.

(I couldn't found a version of Cziffra, and I never heard him playing it...but given that his Chopin interpretations are heavenly, I am sure that Ballade No. 1. would also be incredible. If someone finds a version of his, please send it to me. Thank you in advance!)

I think Yuzuru is using Zimmerman's, that's what it sounds like to me anyway, of course anyone is welcomed to correct me if otherwise.

As far as personal favourites of Ballade no.1 tho Michelangelli is one of them. Another one that I recently love is Aimi Kobayashi. Not technically the best and there are plenty cleaner Ballade no.1s out there, but she has a fresh interpretation of the piece and her passion is clear and lovely :smiley-love017:

You mentioning Cziffra caught my attention because I loved his interpretation of Transcendental Etude No.10. I tried looking for a performance of his to Ballade no.1, and I've found all the other three Ballades, but not Ballade no.1

Yes, you are right, it must be this recording of Zimerman. Thank you, it's magnificient :smiley-love017:

I liked both Michelangelli's and Kobayashi's interpretations, too.

Yuzu could skate to the edit he used so far, but he could make some changes or even use a different interpretation too. I can hardly wait - not only for his program but also - for the music edit if he decides to make some changes

Yes, I also found only Ballades 2-4 by Cziffra, and it seems to me that Ballade 1 was either not recorded or released. I could only find the other three on CDs and live recordings too. I still haven't given up that I'll find it on an old pirate vinyl some day. :hopelessness:I'd really like to hear his version, if it exists.

I'm trying to imagine a step sequence to Lisitsa's Ballade no.1, wwwoooooooooo boy :14066882:

For a moment I thought I had it. I found "Georges Cziffra Ballade no.1" only to find out it's Liszt's Ballade no. 1 in D-flat Major, not Chopin's. What a tease :13877886:

It's not hard to imagine it, is it? Her interpretation is gorgeous, and as passionate and sharp, as Yuzu's StSq! :0011:

I told you :sadPooh:

Her interpretation is almost exaggerated with how fast she plays some of the more exciting parts, a step sequence to that would be insane:13877886:

I had a dream last night I was attending Kobe  hahahahahahahaha....  and on the program sheet, I saw that Yuzuru is skating to something from a horror VG. I vaguely remember parts of Spirit Guide playing several times in the background and Yuzuru skating to it in a white kimono.

...I think I've been playing too many games lately :embSwan:

Just fyi, I've decided I'm going to do a fanmade Seimei 2.0 with musics from the Onmyouji movies and other Umebayashi OST's because the musics are just. Marvellous. Oh my Gosh.

(Also don't worry, I think this is gonna jinx Yuzuru NOT choosing Seimei 2.0 for the Olympics. Which, at this point, would make me super sad COUGH)

Oh dear....should we do this for all the warhorses to jinx them?

I wonder he would ever do anything like something based on Farewell my Concubine or The King and the Clown, since he said something about how if he did do traditional opera, he might end up playing female roles?

Oh, my. I've seen BOTH those movies last year.

I don't remember the soundtrack, but I think I remember I liked it (LOL).

But if we're talking about the theme... mmh... Juliet is one thing. But specifically talking about men playing female roles and talking about sexual ambiguity... doesn't seem like a safe choice for Olympic season :emot-11tea:

No I meant later...not Olympic season. That would be too risky, even for Yuzu....though people tend to forget that female roles were FOUGHT after by male actors in traditional opera in both China and Japan. They were the surest path to stardom and considered the hardest roles to master.

Ah, well, later, you never know!

Though, in Seimei's defense, there's really so much music going on, even outside of the Onmyouji movies. True Legend, the 2010 movie, for example, has a wonderful theme that I think I'll mix in xD Also, the movie 'Fearless'. Luckily, Umebayashi made very different OST's. He's such a wonderful composer!

What about the music from House of Flying Daggers? For the footwork, you could even use that 1 minute section of the main female's dance--the echo game: https://youtu.be/eCB4kwlr7ws
