General Yuzuru Chat

Recommended Posts

I remember that I posted my translation of Haru yo koi in 2018, when HYK was first performed at FaOI Kobe, so I pulled it out from the archives (thank you Admins ).  If you read the posts before and after my post, you can see how much inspirations Yuzuru's performance gave us at the time.

I'll take time this weekend, and try to break down the lyrics part by part.

You may have already found, there are several translation tries on the net.

And this is really a coincidence, but I posted about Yuzuru's name on the same day :happy0007:

Thank you for the links, and the direction to your translation and the 'old' discussions from 2018  :flowers:

How I wish I had the time to read the entire "General Yuzuru Chat" thread from the very beginning --- so much for me to discover.

Well, perhaps someday .... :reading:

And thank you in advance for the oncoming part by part translation, but please take your time, no need to hurry for my sake, as I've said: it's not urgent. Also, the first verse - bridge - chorus will suffice (at least as for myself), 'coz I don't have the time right now to learn the rest of the Japanese lyrics. Thanks again in anticipation  :thanks:

There's also this translation:

This seems to be a good song to have different translations, or comments about how some parts can be interpreted. Add the person who did the translation said, the lyrics seem to use slightly old Japanese. Looking forward to your translation!

Thank you for your reply. So my supposition was correct regarding kanji interpretation being the "culprit" :wink2:

Thank you for expending the effort for this extensive elucidation :thanks:

Now I think I comprehend it ... NOT !  :scratch3:  :giggle:

That's why I don't even try to learn Japanese - besides, I'm way too old and also haven't got the time.  :weeping:

But I regarded it as a point of honour for me to apply myself to learn the lyrics of the Japanese anthem (no, I don't mean SEIMEI  :wink2: )  --- so that I can sing "Kimigayo" with Yuzu in the medal ceremony videos of yore  :heartpound:

I've also learned the 1. verse and chorus of Yumi Matsutoya's "Haru yo koi" and now I can sing along to Takebe-san's piano rendition of it when I re_watch GIFT.

(I love-love-love Kiyozuka-san's "Haru...", but it's not so useful to practice sing-along to that, because it contains the intro and the chorus, but not the verse and the bridge.)

(I've also learnt the lyrics of "Notte stellata", but that was easy, coz I know a tiny little bit Italian.)

-----

A plea to Japanese fellow Fanyus with some spare time on their hands - and it's not urgent:

Could someone please take the "Haru..." lyrics I wrote in the box below and make a word-to-word translation? Not a grammatically correct translation, not a poetically beautiful one, not a machine translation (I've done that several times). I really mean one Japanese word to one English word (as far as it is possible), even if the compilation doesn't make sense in English. I'd really like to know what each Japanese word means when I sing them.

I wrote the text in the box from memory, honestly, not copy-and-paste, hontoni ! I hope I haven't botched it with blatant blunders  :slinkaway:

Also, I address the Japanese fanyu : I went on Amazon France for 1 purchase and by chance I typed "YUZURU HANYU" there are quite a few posters/images etc.... and, in addition : a DVD and BLUE RAY that is unknown to me  , I can't transfer the page because there is my real identity, but I will copy what I see, the title being: "Hanyu Yuzuru Time of Awakering" Yuzu is photographed there with his PW costume and he is young too, I think? that it would be at the 2014 Olympics?! : is this known in Japan? since there are comments in Japanese .....

@SuzyQ  Thank you - thank you - thank you soooo much for your help !!!    :flowers:    :bouquet-smiley:    :thanks:

This is just what I was asking/hoping for  :heartpound:

The reason why I'm so obsessed with "Haru yo koi" of all programs

HYK at the 2019 WM gala was my very first "encounter of the third kind" with the amazing wonder called Yuzuru Hanyu - or as the German TV commentator called him: "Picasso on ice" !  I was instantly mesmerized ... and have remained in that state ever since

Some gratuitous linguistic ramblings in the box below:

Spoiler

I am half-Hungarian by birth, and Hungarian is my first native language, so I'm sort of used to weird/reversed word order and omitted subjects. I find it to be a quite difficult language, I doubt I would have been able to learn it if I hadn't grown up with it.

My other half is German and I've also spoken it from early childhood, as well as Romanian from schooltime onward. Again, I find both languages not quite easy, what with the declination of nouns and adjectives, the different gender-dependent noun markers and the verb conjugation --- very many rules to obey and many-many different forms to remember.

Perhaps one of the reasons why I'm such a dedicated anglophile is that I find English to be really easy-peasy to learn and speak/write correctly in comparison to the above mentioned languages, and also compared to some Germanic, Romanic and Slavic languages (I know a tiny bit of Italian, French and crumbs of Russian).

At any rate, I'm so happy to be able to read my favs (Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Dickens, ...) in the original versions. The Jane Austen translations in German sound so awkward !

Hi

The discs 'Time of Awakening' and 'Time of Evolution' chart Yuzu's progress towards the Sochi and PyongChang Olympic games respectively. The competition programmes featured on the disc are a wonderful permanent record, which is great for fans especially as sometimes the videos of the competitions are occasionally deleted or geoblocked from video streaming sites and fan access is lost.

Hope that helps
