  1. Yuzu is the best skater in the world, but isn't foot perfect all the time. That is just a reality for me after being a fan for half a decade. Shoma isn't foot perfect either, but if he has the better two days then it could happen. Ice is slippery and sports is sports.
  2. I'm an old school skating fan where the A-team skaters skipped 4CC (Michelle Kwan has 5 world titles, 2 Olympic medals, not a 4CC anything, and does anyone care?), so if Yuzu doesn't bother competing there again it wouldn't matter at all to me. Not saying he doesn't want to win it if he can but I think he has his priorities straight considering his other results, and 2x Oly/2x World (or more) Champ will always precede his name when he's announced or mentioned. Just sayin'.
  3. I think consecutive titles show dominance, but for me it needs to be a string of about 4 to make me think much of it. Like, if Yuzu gets a 3rd worlds (this year please skate gods), I don't consider that lesser than Chan's 3. Gold is gold.
  4. Well Javi doesn't have GPF gold either. And of course winning a consecutive Olympics highly trumps a consecutive worlds. I don't really get why it's a bigger deal to win something consecutively a couple times (save for the olys due to the time gap). Winning consecutively shows good performance over a closer period. Winning things spread out shows that you're capable of reaching the top level over a longer time period.
  5. 4CC is even more challenging than Euros these days...That's why Javi feels he can sit out most of the season and then swoop in for one more Euros, cuz why not? ...Go Kolyada...
  6. I'm very pleased with these! As a Plushy fan I'm really pleased! And I remember really liking this program and music for Johnny too. Good ones, Yuzu!
  7. I can't WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTT!!! NEED NEW MUSIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC!!!!
  8. I bought a wanikani lifetime subscription around new years, but I'm about 1000 kanji in already from other sources and wanikani starts you from scratch, so it's very hard to be motivated with it. And some of the radicals are different than what I've been associating them with so I don't really care for that adjustment. Yeah review is good but that's time I can spend learning the other 1000+ kanji I don't know. You know, when I was in Korea for the Olys and had to pretty much rely on my friend for everything, I found it a bit stressful myself. I don't like not understanding what I'm hearing around me. But when I went to Japan in between for a couple of days, when I got there it was actually a bit comforting. No, I'm not fluent in Japanese but I understand a whooole lot more than Korean and I can speak it at an intermediate level so I can say what I need to say to be understood. And just the other day my coworker took me to birthday lunch and there was a large group of Japanese people next to us (the World Bank is nearby and Mitsubishi is in my building). I couldn't hear exactly what they were saying, but hearing the Japanese sort of triggered me to want to initially speak in Japanese, so I was actually fighting a bit to speak in English. And also, speaking of learning Japanese, my teacher totally rocks! She just got back from Japan and gave me this: Does she know me well or does she know me well? Not to switch topics, but ACI's schedule has been released! There are no juniors so it's a much shorter competition. I'm pleased!
  9. The reverse is also true. I find my writing and reading Japanese is better than speaking, though it's not that my speaking is bad, it's just not as on the fly as when I speak English, I have to think through it a bit more.
  10. Definitely this. I remember watching skate after skate from group one up to him and when he performed it was like a dramatic shift to an entirely different level. Everything done was just...better and so sophisticated. Without a doubt it was the skate of the day, heck, this past quad. I don't care that it was only a 111, I saw ACI in person too and the Olympics was better.
  11. How I just love it when my one fave loves my other fave.
  12. 4000!! W00t!!! Onto 5!!! Will he understand the meaning of the goats?
  13. Agree with all of this, and in addition, Worlds in in Japan this season. I feel like that's even more added attention in terms of buzz. Med's spot on the team isn't in jeopardy this year even if she finishes behind eteri juniors (not that yuzu's is either).
  14. The universe owed Yuzu what he was due.
  15. Well before Shoma skated on the jumbotron they showed the score he'd need vs. his season's best (which was very close to his PB), so they made it easy. On the 4K broadcast they showed Yuzu before Shoma skated in the greenroom and he did not look well (future me wanted to tell him it'd be okay, lol). But after the fall it was pretty much a done deal to me. I was just hoping he could stay on the podium at that point. Javi, his landings were not the greatest but I didn't expect that to hurt his GOE much and thought maybe if clean they'd do some fudging to make it happen. But when he doubled that Sal I knew it was done. That reminds me I gotta remember to record all that 4k stuff before it expires this month...
  16. I've been on two of these. Before it drops you it hovers over the top for several seconds for dramatic effect. I can tell you with 100% confidence that the Olympics was scarier.
  17. These are gems! Thank you! Oh man, listening to Paul Wylie commentate about Yuzu's short is something I didn't know I needed.
  18. Announcing Yuzu the winner the second Shoma fell. Way to build the suspense, guys! LOL
  19. Watching Misha jump well puts me in a happy place! What gorgeous jumps! Go back and time and hit up Helinki's short program and all of Boston. You can borrow my tickets. I try to let those be a consolation for PyeongChang.
  20. But that wasn't the first or last instance of corrupt judging, but nothing got remotely close to that kind of media attention or commentator reaction.
  21. 2002 Olympics comes to mind with the pairs scandal. That happened on US soil with US media backing. If the competition were in Russia the results might have stayed as they originally were. Once in a blue moon of course, but never say never!
  22. So here I am casually watching some j-drama and Hana Nochi Hare (the new version of Hana Yori Dango) tosses in a quote from Yuzu .
