San is a Japanese honorific, adding san after the person's name is a mark of respect. Other honorifics: sensei- teacher, senshu -athlete, sama denotes even more respect than san. Just a few examples edit: added a missed out word

Tetsuko san is 89 years young an indomitable and intelligent person with a show that has run for 48 years. She is very impressive

Well deserved rest time especially after having whisked himself to Canada and back to Japan as well

Thank you for enlightening people on cultural differences. This is useful to know so as to demonstrate appropriate politeness when visiting another country. Living in UK, it is fairly common for children of friends to refer to older people with whom they have a familiar relationship to refer to them as Auntie or Uncle. Calling someone Mr or Mrs Surname would be too formal, calling by given name too casual. The Aunties/ Uncle is acknowledgement of kinship via their own parents, however, it would not be suitable to call someone by this if one did know them, as formal greeting it should then be Title Surname

A wonderful way for the students to showcase their progress and for their parents and loved ones to see them perform. Hope all goes well and everyone enjoys themselves

You are most welcome. Thank you for confirming that it arrived

Tetsudo san So lovely the way she arranged herself to show off her beautiful dress and practised waving the GIFT flag and then remembered that there was a present to gift to Yuzu. The greeting scene with Yuzu was like a Disney Prince film, both Yuzu sama and Tetsudo san looked immaculate, then the warm smiles.
