and from here pages and pages of chat :tumblr_inline_mqt4grU8ua1qz4rgp:

I have said my words about this matter several pages before.

I respect Iron Klaus for her efforts in translation but this case in my opinion she didn’t handle it well and people keep quoting her despite the fact she “translated” some paraphrasing words from a 3rd source.

  2. Last but not least, when I was working as a guide at the stadium during my college years, some Japanese athletes even scolded me when I made some jokes to their senior. In my culture, those jokes are harmless and casual, nothing serious, but “kohai” or the younger Japanese athletes would not see it that way. Their “senpai” aka seniors are supposed to be respected like leaders and that’s it.

In turn, seniors are supposed to be in charge of all situations, to show the guidance and that’s it. I was supposed to report to the senior athletes, not the younger members in the team. It’s pretty much not written in words but they’re all expected to be that way. I think Yuzuru pretty much loves the senior role because Satoko and Shoma and other members in team Japan are all younger, pretty cute like small children to him. I think he really enjoys the role of a caring leader. He loves children after all. He will be a good coach.

I agree and also thought the post of @meoima was a great explanation of Yuzu's senpai actions to the younger team members. People are free to have their own beliefs but the below sums up my thoughts on it.

"Any man who must say, "I am the king," is no true king."

    One more thing,

Mao Asada used to be sad that the younger skaters didn’t react to her much. Kanako did, but she’s childhood friend with Mao so it didn’t matter. The rest of Japanese young skaters didn’t interact with Mao so much. It’s not because Mao did anything wrong. It’s because of her seniority, longevity and her legendary status. Younger teammates dare not (frankly they dare not) act so casually before Mao.

Mao did complain about that (to call it complain is a bit much but still she was like kinda sad because the young skaters didn’t act more casually to her). Mao was like over the moon when Satoko grabbed her hands or something. Mao didn’t know that the young skaters respect her seniority, and that she’s a huge legend before them. In a way, it’s kinda “not respectful” if they treat Mao like a peer, in their opinions.

The seniority is treated very serious in Japanese hierarchy system. Yuzuru after Sochi was already a legend but he didn’t give people the vibe of seniority since there’s still Machida, Kozuka. Now he is truly a pretty much the highest senior in Japan team among both men and ladies singles (ice dance and pair didn’t appear in public much).

Naturally, it’s Yuzuru’s time to act up as a senior. It’s almost his duty to act as a senior. If you remember the Yuzuru/Nobu/Shoma talk 2 seasons ago, they did say seniority wasn’t that much of a big deal in the skating world but IMO that’s just Yuzuru’s way of trying to ease down (and Nobu retired already so it doesn’t count much). Don’t be shocked if in the future, you see young skaters do not speak a word to Yuzuru other than “thank you” or “I will try my best”. In a way, the current team members of team Japan might be the last generation that can act so freely towards Yuzuru since they have known and interacted with Yuzuru for a while.

In fact, I think Yuzuru might be very happy that he has kohai who are still acting casually and freely towards him.

Javi: I'm happy about my bronze medal!

Also Javi: Will continue to talk about how Shoma was a bit overscored and he might have gotten silver otherwise.

To be fair to him, Spanish media keeps bringing it up.

Thing is, Javi actually had the highest GOEs of the FS (17.41 to Yuzu's 16.99 and Shoma's 7.87; Nathan had 12.53) but his BV was almost 20 points below Shoma's because of the pop. So that made a big difference.

Shoma’s BV would be lower like around at least 5 points too if they gave correct UR and downgrade calls. The biggest difference is the tech calls.

But frankly, having bronze medal is said to be better than the silver for the long run, scientists say so. I don’t think Javi is bitter.  But this is a clear evidence that many skaters know when the judging is unfair.

Maybe cuz yuzu doesnt flutz or lip or underrotate or prerotate often that when he does the judges are shocked and instantly notice it.

I think there is such a thing as immunity when it comes to judging.

For example evgenia medvedeva used to flutz often but because she did tano in her lutzs and the height was sufficient she still received positive GOEs.

Does Nathan prerotate his jumps too?

I recommend you this analysis on toe pick jumps: http://the-real-xmonster.tumblr.com/post/169727183234/the-takeoff-toe-jumps

    You will find the answer.

As for edge jumps (Salchow, Loop, Axel), I am proud to say no one is better than Yuzuru.

I was watching coc crash via the internet. I only saw Yuzu sp and fs at pyeongchang olympics live for the first tjme.

I didn’t sleep very well that season.

Before CoC 2014, Kurt Browning said Yuzuru was injured in the ankle (that ankle again) and yet Yuzuru still went for 3 quads.

Then the crazy collision happened and I cried the whole week after that. And those antis and haters came and talked horribly about Yuzuru’s scores etc.

Then NHK 2014 happened when Yuzuru was having bandages all over the places after just 5 days lf practice. And antis and hatters were happy that he was off podium.

Then National 2014 happened when people thought it’s over, the day after that Yuzuru went to the hospital to get surgery in the stomach. Everyone was like what the hell is going on, our mentality wasn’t enough.

Then before WC 2015, it turned out Yuzuru got his ankle injured again because he came back to practice too early.

Then after WTT 2015 it turned out his body didn’t go well with the medical stitches and that there was some bad inflammation.

People thought season 2015-2016 would be better, but Boston happened and it turned out he had a very bad injury and he was forced to go off ice for whole summer.

And this season, that fall happened in November before all of our eyes.

Don’t ask me why I hope he won’t go for 2022. It’s too much. Yes all of his hardships paid off. But thinking about them making me sad and heartbroken all over again.

I regret not knowing yuzu back in 2010 when he first debuted as Senior...

I wasted 4 years of my life before Sochi unaware of mens figure skating ... Which is a shame because had i known yuzu from 2010, I would know I had 8 full years of seeing yuzu compete.. I kinda feel sorry for the newbie fans of yuzu that knew him from pyeongchang cuz they have limited years of seeing him compete live

I am not sure. At least you didn’t have to witness CoC 2014 live.

I still have no idea how I lived through that season.

Yes, this was the point I was trying to make in my reply. It's true, I never saw the Japanese hierarchy system in practice but I know of its existence and to me it was clear what Yuzu was doing :)

I’d tell you this, in a Japanese team, it’s natural for a senior to act like Yuzuru, or more like it is expected. He is just very graceful at that. But it is not something unnatural to them. Or more likely, whole Japan will just expect Yuzuru, now a senior, to act so.

And I have to jump in and explain so people will stop speculating because it’s getting out of hand.

can we just end this talk about whoever surpassing Yuzu. regardless of anything, we all know that yuzu will forever be remembered as one if not the best skater ever.

Tell the rest of skaters to:

    1) improve their technique first. Faulty technique will get in the way sooner or later,

    and I am not kidding.

    2) improve their skating skills first. Because judging from the way the Olympics came out, judges and ISU still prefer true skating, even though they play with the Inflation.

    3) adapt to the new rules first. No one knows how the new rules will affect the results and the scoring next season.

People are so underestimating Yuzuru. But I will just shut up because the level of over-thinking is getting over the top I am tired and I don’t have time for all of that.

  11. @yuzuonice and others who keep speculating about Yuzuru’s treatment towards other members in team Japan. Am I right to say you never see the hierarchy system in Japan in action? And maybe you never work among Japanese athletes before?

I used to work at a stadium during my college years, I met Japanese athletes before, I was like telling them the time of the practice, the time of competition, the hotel address and all sort of information when they’re in the competitions. And this is my explanation of why Yuzuru is treating his teammates so well and caring:

    1) Yuzuru acts caringly to all younger members of team Japan, especially the youngers like Satoko, Shoma, and all... because he’s the senior. Seniors are supposed to act that way in Japan in all kinds of fields, even in universities, offices. There’s nothing like “putting one in their place” thing. It’s their culture for seniors to be in charge.

    2) Yuzuru is already among the older members of team Japan, and the oldest medalist in the skating team, people look at him first and foremost. In short, he is the face of the whole JSF now. It’s natural that he acts like a senior because that’s how the public expects him to do, and I am sure most Japanese people will see it’s natural to act that way once they’re in that position. Of course he carries that expectation of “acting like a senior” with grace and elegance. I think his parents even taught him how to act that way or told him in details that he should act that way because he’s a senior now, that’s how seniors are expected to do.

    3) Yuzuru genuinely likes his teammates. Why people think it’s so hard to get?

Since I was in quite a number of sport competitions during my college years, watched Japan teams in various sports acted, there’s nothing weird in how Yuzuru is handling the media and acting towards his teammates. It’s just he does it with the most graceful gesture and composure I have ever seen. But the way he acts as a caring senior is totally normal. I have seen this before among Japanese athletes.

I believe they were asked about Yuzu-Zhenia collab at press-conference? If it's so, I suppose that was a polite way to point out that there will be none.

I don’t want to say this out loud but please take note: don’t take everything Iron Klaus “translated” as seriously. She is a good translator BUT sometimes she take sources NOT from the original one.

The Russian media simply played trick and gossip and asked if Yuzuru and Zhenia would skate together in exhibition. And this is what I took from Zhenia’s fan thread in GS:

    Quote

Zhenya answered with a question saying "How could it be possible? We live in different countries". Eteri said it would take lots of time and either Yuzu or Zhenya would have to come to another country...

In short, there is NO plan at all and there is no demand for Yuzuru to come to Russia to skate with Zhenia. It’s their way of saying it’s not gonna happen.

Iron Klaus took from a 3rd source or something and “translated” it into “there is a plan” which isn’t correct.

Or it may have been his before, but once he found out people knew, he switched to a different account.

yeah but still there is no concrete evidence it was his.

As I said, the Hope and Legacy album was actually a fan suggestion that sent to him in ice shows. We never know if the playlist on youtube was created by Yuzuru himself or that fan.

I dnt think its him. He said in an interview during his high school days that he doesnt even knw AKB48 and is not interested in idols.

That account is a major Kara fanboy and is named yuzuru hanyu in kanji. Hes not being secretive about his account which is unusual cuz yuzu doesnt do SNS.

There is also a chance this youtube account is not his.

    1) My friend in Nagoya says there are some people who likes posing accounts as if they belong to famous people.

    2) The hope and legacy album was actually sent to Yuzuru from a fan when he was much younger. Like in 2013 ice show or even longer before something, someone sent the suggestion to him. So we never know if it's Yuzuru himself or it's the fan who created it.

Yes, you are free to believe or trust that the account is his but personally I would think there is no concrete evidence.

As much as I want to see him in Beijing 2022, I can't ignore the concern to his health. He'll be 27 by then, and do you guys remember what Javi said about skating at 26?

He said jumping quads by 26 is completely different than when he's 20. They become harder, and he fell harder...

And here Yuzu is, having to keep the game up by then and strive towards 4A and even quints in 4 years time.

Ok sorry I'm probably killing the mood :81:

Not to mention, Yuzuru has not healed his ankle yet. And even now Yuzuru does not know how long it will take his ankle to fully heal and how to heal it yet.

I'd say I'd happy to see him skate OK in 2020 at max. I do think if he heals, he can land that 4A and say BYE to the skating world and I am totally okay with it.

Sorry for jumping the wagon without checking last five pages, but...he's just plain amazing...

There's currently a lot happening in Japanese idol industry as two of them got together and kind of published their relationship on social media (for onr of them it's the second time- I think it even got featured in the media, dince he was part of the cast of a very popular stageplay). A lot of so-called "fans" dragged them for it, saying that they spend money on them and how could they! And overally behaving like cheated spouses to both of them.(Ooh terrible who forced you to support them? Oh it was nobody but your ego? Hmmm). The problem with idol industry is that they sell dreams, so while there are mature fans just sincerly wanting to support talented person they admire or enjoy work of, there is also this group of loud, excuse my wording now, attention w**res who think they are the only ones sugar-mommying/daddying the idol and so are the only ones destined to be with them.

Yuzuru throws shade at those people with a veeery wide smile and cute laugh, but he is a bit right that his fandom also has this type of people in it (I haven't met anybody personally, even less here, but for example seeing some of the comments under Misha Ge's instagram post featuring Olys just made me cringe. "Tell Yuzu we're his fans from XYZ and that he needs to make social media account!" On a post with Misha's Sp preparations? Blegh). Still, judging just from this Planet population I'm quite sure there would be more "OMG! CONGRATS!!!" and "WHERE AND WHEN IS THE WEDDING I WANT TO SEND POOH" had he suddenly announced getting together with sb rather than "You betrayed me! How could you!" Since I feel we actually care for his Happines and not our chances to possibly hook up with him...I hope?

I find the question about family a bit rude and invasive. Given the fact I am annoyed when even my relatives ask me about that or nag me about “why don’t you get somebody”. That’s why I am curious about his answer. He gave them some very interesting “slap”. I kinda like it. I hope the media will shut up about this matter but well it’s the media what else do we expect from them.
