Well yeah, but people can say whatever they want. Why care? (Especially in this age of fake news).

If someone said that Yuna's Lutz is wrong, I'd like to see them do a correct one in front of a judging panel.

Yes, people say whatever they want as well and it's their personal accounts, right? Then why get so emotional over some personal tweets saying Yuzuru's 4S is one of the 2 ways that are correct? it's like: "No you must not say A to reply B just because of some bad comments." Most people not using twitter would just think ok it's a clear up of the technique debate.

I totally agree with @xeyra. I can see @meoima's point, but really, is it necessary to justify the "why" of love? Whatever the reason that turned you into his fan, be it the emotions, the personality, the techniques,... that's what matter most.

If one feels like they want to learn more on the technical aspects, they should learn how GOEs are awarded, because those criterion represent what the entire field of figure skating consider important for a jump. The minute details of "how skater A does it" do not matter at all, as everyone's body is different. What matter is how many GOE boxes they check, and on this aspect, Yuzu's records are undeniable facts.

It is not about "why" of the love. It is about the technique. Even a non-fan of Yuna Kim should not say her lutz is wrong. Because her Lutz is one of the best. Also, as Laylou has stated, people here talk in English but many are not native-English speakers and many come from other platforms.

I understand and that's good. But in that case may I suggest to maybe don't preface it with 'Japanese antis said this' and just present it differently? I mean, I'm all for educating new fans but to do connect it with some anti on JPN twitter starts it off a lot more negatively than just presenting it as an introduction to jump technique, you know? I don't know if I'm explaining myself well.

In which tweets you see that they mention the Japanese antis? All the twitter accounts above don’t quote Japanese antis twitter at all. Go there and check.

To add to my above post: I kinda wish people would not bring idiotic JPN (or Korean or Russian or other) anti stuff into English FS fandom. Antis that threaten to disrupt Yuzuru's parade in Sendai? Yes, that's good, share it, let's report them because that's really problematic behavior!

An anti talking about how Yuzuru doesn't have good 4S technique, though? It's too stupid to even bother. Let it stay in JPN twitter...

Many people are new fans and don’t understand the technique right away. It’s not like the antis are many. But it’s better for the new fans to get used to the technique more often. Sooner or later some fans might ask “what about this technique?”. Frankly, I know many old fans who couldn’t identify which jump is which so...

Mmmm- I know what you mean, but I'm not sure how much reliance one should place on these post competition interviews.  People are tired, or elated, and don't always mean what they seem to say.  Also he's not exactly fluent in English so he tends to speak in simple terms without the nuance he would use if he were speaking Japanese.  I agree with you about bad technique - judges can decide to 'see' UR etc whenever they choose, whatever they may have overlooked in the past.

Believe me, judges know, it will become a matter if it’s Nathan or Vincent or any Russian/Canadian/US top skaters going into the next Olympics as the medal contenders. It’s just what happens in this sport, you’re not lucky forever. Judges always have a way if they want. People didn’t expect Alina to score up so fast, yet she did. If judges want, they have a way.

  6. Yuzuru can win Beijing Olympics if he stays healthy. But... he seems to be content with 2 Olympic gold, and his goal might be just landing the 4A in competition then retire and becomes a coach/instructor for young skaters. Personally I guess Yuzuru wants to retire at WC 2019 as it will be in Japan.

His remarks to CBC interview seems to me he’s thinking of retirement honestly, that he feels if he leaves now, Japan men will be in good hands.

Well personally I don’t think Japan men will be in good hands if Yuzuru retires. But that’s the story of another day, as you know, that kind of bad technique will catch up eventually.

  7. As many people seem not to understand the pressure Yuzuru has to face as an Olympic Champion, this interview with Adelina Sotnikova might show you what it feels like as an Olympic champion. I know many people don’t like her for her win at Sochi, but she’s actually a very good skater and doesn’t deserve hate. Here in this interview she’s very honest, what she feels might be  what all Olympic champions feel. And this is why most Olympic champions retire after the Olympics. We should be grateful that Yuzuru has sacrificed so much to stay in this sport. All the pressure from his country, from the skating world and the pressure he put on himself is unfathomable.

No matter how many times I was told I have to put the Olympic gold medal behind me it was still in my head. You have that gold medal, the world spins around you, you are invited everywhere. And on the other hand if something goes wrong it's the worst. Because you can't even speak out. You are an Olympic champion and don't have a right for a mistake. You start feeling it's all the people think about around you.
But the Olympic champions are not robots. They have a soul, they have a body that keeps changing. It's a different feeling on the ice every time. Everything hurts, you lose weight, you gain weight and it might not even be related to what you eat. And the worst thing is that you can never tell how long it'll go, what you'll have to face tomorrow.

I think Brian's complaint was that the 4 minutes is more draining on stamina than the 4 min 30 seconds version, especially since they are eliminating 1 jumping pass; skaters just have to execute more jam packed programs well. In Yuzu's case, the fact his jumps are already somewhat tightly packed makes it possibly easier to adapt, not the case for many other men who have longer setups and worse landings.

But we are not sure they will cut down 30s. It is still up to debate.

Someone here said that the B.esp guys are keen to praise Shoma because one of them has something to with Shoma's coaching? Can anyone shed lights on the details?

Shoma trains at the rink that Chis from BESP works for. Hence no complaints on Shoma’s jump but they attacked Satoko for the same issue. Some fans called out Mark Hanretty on twitter and the next time Mark called that out.

I haven't watched BESP version myself,  but according to this blog post, they were Simon and Chris, as you guessed.
This blogger often translates their commentaries into Japanese, and in this post, you can see her translation of their commentary for Yuzu's FS, with transcription in English by her husband, which says it was Simon and Chris.

Yes. I was thinking it’s Chris and Simon, not Nick. Thank you very much for the clarification.

Btw, back to skating topic, why are junior girls getting such low PCS? some of them have better SS and TR than some senior ladies, yet aren't really getting scored 8's at all.

Junior get scored differently. They’re not throwing huge scores of the top senior to top junior yet. It’s not a rule but judges all do this.

  12. There are bad fans in all fandom. Let’s ignore the idiots and focus on the brighter side. Calm down and talk nicely.

I am asking has there been translation of Max and Angelo’s tech talk about jump technique and GOE into Japanese? I hope Japanese fans have the chance to know how great Yuzuru is.
