Ice skating FAQ and introductions for new fans
meoima replied to meoima's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Because it's a SP and spin in one position with change of foot is compulsory. His position after he changed his foot was not counted, his skating thigh was not achieving required level... It means that after change of foot spin has not been counted because no basic position was achieved. Furthermore because spin with change of foot is compulsory in SP the whole spin was washed out -

He did not have at least 2 continuous revolutions in a basic position. Tech specialist ONLY starts counting when he is in the position. But Nam did not settle down in the first basic position which was the sideway sit spin. He might thought he did enough revolutions but they did not count his first 2 revolutions as his body was not in the proper sit position. In the last revolution he moved up his body, thus the position was not counted. -

Ice skating FAQ and introductions for new fans

Do you mean this performance? -
I think what you said is actually in sync with others. Max laughed when he tried to describe Kevin Reynolds as "this...mess". Nam is even slow on screen. Jason Brown was the one who actually got much praises as people watch him live. That's why I don't agree with Mishin regarding his comment about the number of quads make the performance exciting. Jason certainly has something to make people remember him. I have seen some people complained when they saw Mao during season 2015-2016 and last season too. So it is not like everyone will appreciate her. Polina Turskaya got quite hate for saying she did not see anything special in Mao. Of course, she saw Mao at her worst in GPF 2015, not Mao at her best. Mai Mihara is even amazing on screen, I think she is the fastest Japanese lady, more than Wakaba and Marin. Now if Mai can improve her presentation and posture, she will be a force.

Yes. That's why I mostly look at aspects I can count, not the invisible aspects depends on the taste. For example is the technique correct? How many crossovers or turns the skaters do? How height the jumps can be etc...
-
My friend Marina said she finds Shoma the worst among top men (just above Nathan) after watching live. She said she is very bothered by his monotonous upper body movements. Her family is full of artistic people (her sister is a ballet dancer and now is teaching ballet). She thinks Zhenia looks better live than on tivi. My friend Margaret said she found Satoko flat in live competition. And that Boyang looks better live. So each person has their own taste. Adelia said Marin looks nice in competition but other said Marin is noticeably more labored compared to Zhenia at Fantasy on ice.

Yuzuru as Glaceon? That certainly works.

If it's not crossovers then a looooooong set up make me feel I just paid the money to see them do nothing on the ice other than their jumps (and many of them are ugly). Better to pay for the open practice then because they just jump there and there's almost no program at all anyway.
-
I am most bother by crossovers and bad jumps. When the skaters do too many crossovers I feel like it is a waste of money to pay money to see them. I am also bothered by too much posing. For example, I have no idea why the judges gave Oksana Bauil the Olympic gold in 1994 even though most things she did was POSE and POSE and POSE. And I might be the LAST one to prefer Nancy Kerrigan. But at least what Nacy did was more about skating than Bauil.

His 4T at 16 as the first jump vs his 4T at 22 as the 5th jump

I remember that's Orser's words, he might just mean that he hope Yuzuru would go out more and since Javi often goes out so it's just a normal remark. It doesn't mean it has to be Javi. I think among team Japan, Yuzuru interacts with Nobu and Mura quite often. He went with Mura to an earphone shop in Japan before.
-
Even Orser said he hoped Yuzuru would go out more (or that he hoped Javi would help Yuzuru go out and enjoy the city more or something). Yuzuru himself is quite a home person too. So it makes sense he doesn't gather with people unless it's necessary.

If Satoko's choreographers are Lori and Tom Dickson as usual then no TCC. And unlike many people's beliefs... skaters don't hang out with each other outside of competition much. I remember at Skate Canada 2015, Yuzuru didn't go out to eat with team Japan (including Kanako being there) after the competition ended. Even if Satoko is at Toronto, there is little chance she might see Yuzuru.
-
If she comes to Lori's place then she doesn't see Yuzuru. Different ice rinks.
-
For the records, most men who won Olympic repeated their programs because by Olympic it will be a huge pressure to bear. So if Yuzuru repeat his programs it's understandable. By the way, most men who won Olympic were not the one with highest BV but the one who made least mistakes and skated with best packaging. Repeating programs isn't an issue. If his own freaking federation doesn't try to talk him down and pushing another one with cheated jumps, there will be not much talk about the programs.

Actually very good choice for her but can she stay on her feet is another story. -
It was listed as 1m75 during 2014-2015 season. I think they have changed it since then.
-
There is one thing certain, there is no way Javi is 1m75 because he is shorter than a girl who is 1m74. That's why when ISU bio listed Javi as 1m75, she was like: "NO WAY!!"
-
My friend was at GPF Barcelona and she's 1m74, and she said Javi was shorter than her.

Yes maybe
