  1. https://medium.com/@renatamachado_73871/can-data-science-show-us-that-there-is-bias-on-the-figure-skating-judging-system-54ef2e033096 A very interesting article using actual scientific data to show evidence of bias within the figure skating judging system...I wonder how the ISU mouthpieces would explain this?
  2. Guys, does anyone know which coach will accompany Yuzu for Japan nationals? Will it be Brian? I read that Brian will accompany Evgenia for Russian nationals but I don't know if those 2 events overlap? Is he allowed to have more than 1 coach with him e.g. Brian AND Ghislain? Sorry for all the questions lol this is the my first year following figure skating competitions and so also happens to be first time experiencing nationals, so I'm very curious about everything
  3. I think they meant physically old lol they said they could see the difference between young (Nathan) and old (Yuzu) because apparently Yuzu bends his knees too much when he lands... Honestly, there's no point trying to make sense of it since there isn't any sense. I guess the propoganda has set in, since now some people think stiff knees is the way lmao
  4. I really just had to read someone on twitter say that Yuzu got less GOE on his jumps because he had deep knee bend on his landings, thus showing his 'oldness' lmao what??
  5. Honestly, Yuzu is just so naturally graceful. I remember when I first watched him at the PC olympics vs watching other skaters, Yuzu really seemed to fly across the ice like the ice was an extension of himself. It's what attracted me to him first. With other skaters, I could tell they were putting effort into being graceful especially during large movements, whereas with Yuzu it felt weightless, and even the smallest of movements was elegant. And it's not just his skating, his jumps are so liquid smooth- he even said that the kind of jumps he wants to do are those that look like they don't need much power. One of his best points imo is that he makes everything look so easy, like how on earth he makes a twizzle-3A-twizzle look that effortless is beyond me... His natural grace combined with his excellent foundation of skating skills including things like deep knee bends etc. makes him such an aesthetically pleasing skater to watch- I initially thought he was the one with a background in dance when I was exposed to him for the first time at pyeongchang lol The whole feather/wings imagery his brand has suits him sooo much!
  6. Ah okay good to know lol I guess he also lowkey admitted that Nathan was overscored at GPF...in a recent interview he said he was surprised that Nathan got more scores in SS + transitions than Yuzu
  7. Also it's sooo frustrating that the jumps that SHOULD DEFINITELY have higher bv- 4lo and 4A happen to be Yuzu's jumps....*sigh* it's like he has to fight the system on every level I wish JSF stepped up here and demanded the ISU to reconsider 4A bv...I mean surely this is a reasonable thing to want? I mean, it was originally higher but they reduced it.
  8. This is so interesting to see...the hardest quad- 4Lz was the 2nd most popular for men and most popular for ladies...the 4lo is such a lonely quad lol should just call it the Yuzu loop for now
  9. Wow...so apparently Yuzu only practiced the 5 quad layout ONCE??!
  10. LOL Yuzu really is wild without his coaches present
  11. So apparently, according to Yuko Kavaguti, fanyus aren't 'real' fs fans...hmm...I wonder if that's what she thought when she was invited by Yuzuru himself to participate in Ciontu...guess the only way for her to be relevant is to use Yuzuru's name Honestly, what hurts me the most is imagining how Yuzuru would feel if he read that
  12. I means fans did sing HBD to him at a previous competition and Yuzuru seemed pretty happy so I don't think it should be a problem now. And I'm pretty sure he's celebrated his birthday on Japanese tv with cakes etc. I think someone on twitter was organising a poll and included options such as 'singing during k+c' which many people opposed and now the whole thing has kind of been blown out of proportion lol
  13. I agree with what you're saying, if we forget about the whole disruption thing, we can't really predict the mood after he skates so it might be awkward. Personally, after practice seems like a better option to me, but if fans sang after he skated, I guess whilst he's bowing/ still on the ice, it shouldn't be a problem either way.
  14. Regarding singing happy birthday, I definitely think it's a bad idea to do it after his skate. Firstly, we don't want to disrupt the next skater who will probably be warming up by skating on the ice covered with poohs anyway lol And even if you think it won't disrupt the next skater or that it will be quick, we can't predict how Yuzu's skate will go, so I don't think he will be in the right state of mind to enjoy his birthday being celebrated. Fingers crossed he does amazing /but/ if the skate doesn't go according to plan, I don't thinking singing happy birthday at that moment would be appropriate. During the kiss and cry is a no-no for me since he'll want to focus on watching the replays and we don't want to overlap singing with scores announcement. Also during that time, sometimes the coaches offer words of encouragement or even consolation, so I think it's important we don't interrupt that. Since it /is/ a competition after all, not an ice show or something similar, I personally think the best time would be at the end of his practice session. It's been done before and there seemed to be a good reaction. Also at the end of the victory ceremony when the medalists are skating around the rink is another option. I'm not sure if there's a gala, but if there is one then maybe after his performance or right at the end when he's leaving. I think it is important to remember that he is an athlete at the end of the day and not an idol. Of course he has achieved a celebrity-status, but during competitions I think there is certain etiquette that fans have to maintain, so imo the most important thing to remember when planning fan events, no matter how small, is that it doesn't disrupt his competitors which Yuzu himself would dislike.
