Thank you! I had been lurking for a while, but couldn't resist making an account with all this new hype. I needed to express my excitement somewhere, since I don't know anyone who watches figure skating.

That's what we're here for. Welcome!

    do we know the channel?

Live News α should be Fuji, right?

Not that I'll be able to understand more than bits and pieces, but when has that ever stopped me from watching his interviews?

  3. My coach told me to send her some music ideas for a program and we'd start working on one. Of course, now my mind's gone completely blank. My taste in music tends toward the dramatic, but I don't have the skill to pull anything like that off. One of the downsides to being an avid FS watcher is that you get all these choreo ideas that you'll never be able to do.

I'm tempted to send her a playlist with a bunch of warhorses as a joke.

Also, I can fairly consistently get a slow backspin around for a few revs now. So... yay?

  4. 1022 days for me - I watched the PC Men's SP because I had some free time and I always liked watching figure skating during the Olympics. (Except for Sochi, I was too busy with school and didn't watch anything there.) I saw Ballade and was completely entranced. I had no idea someone could move like that.

  5. In some good news, my state is now saying they expect to have the first few doses of COVID-19 vaccine available next month. Health care workers are the first ones prioritized to get the vaccine where I live, so hopefully two months from now I'll have finished the vaccine series. My parents will be in the next group after mine (although they live far away), then my husband is probably in the third group to get it. Of course, the responsible thing to do until vaccination is more widespread is still to wear a mask and socially distance - 94-95% effective isn't the same thing as 100%, but still. I'm ready to get this behind us. Now to just get through the next few weeks to months - our numbers (and almost everyone's, from the looks of it) are skyrocketing, and somehow I don't think the completely toothless mask mandate we have as of yesterday will help. People can just claim they have a medical reason to not wear a mask and cannot be asked for documentation to prove it, so... what's to stop someone from lying?

But there is finally, finally, a light at the end of the tunnel.

I have to share the happy chaos that is unfolding on Twitter.... following a very innocent tweet, fanyus realized that Yuzu won his first OGM skating to a song called Hoochie Coochie Man :smiley-laughing021::smiley-laughing021::smiley-laughing021: (after the 3A in PW)

    He WHAT. :english2:

Although the lyrics aren't exactly wrong...

    Quote

    Before I was born
    I got a boy child's coming
He's gonna be a son of a gun
    He gonna make pretty womens
    Jump and shout
    Then the world wanna know
    What this all about

Is 4A not allowed as a solo axel-type jump in the SP?

Not as a solo axel-type jump, that has to be a double or triple. But it should theoretically be fine as a solo quad jump or as the quad in combination.

  8. My state just shut down rinks for 2 weeks in response to the latest surge - basically, hockey was associated with increased COVID-19 spread, but instead of just shutting down hockey, they’re shutting down all ice sports. Figure skating hasn’t been associated with any increased transmission, but we’re still caught up in the ban. Meanwhile, still no mask mandate (and lots of people ignoring the signs at businesses who have individually required masks), bars and restaurants are still open at 100% capacity as long as social distancing can be maintained... literally the only thing the government has done about the recent spike in cases has been to shut down the rinks.

I’m so tired of seeing people ignoring CDC recommendations to decrease community spread, having our case numbers spike to the worst we’ve seen since the first wave, and somehow having my (very socially-distant) hobby be the only thing that’s been locked down again so far. We’ve been doing this since March - at this point I have zero patience for people who can’t follow the guidelines.

I’m worried about Joe Biden since that debate this past week was so ballistic and FLOTUS as well as Hope Hicks were in the audience.

Hope Nancy Pelosi has not had contact with any of them.

    Biden tested negative.

I would say that hopefully Trump will learn his lesson about taking pandemics seriously, but I don’t think he has the capacity for self-reflection that would take.

Wow. Plushenko gave a great interview. Really, one of the best ever. My respect to him. Whatever his political affiliations, he sounds like a caring coach and person.

It sounds like he really is trying to create a healthy training environment for his students. Good for him.

Does the article really keep mentioning Lysacek, or is Google translate leading me astray?

Anyone else checking out the Ice Academy of Montreal Live right now? It's so good to be watching skating again! Hannah Lim and Ye Quan just finished and they were wonderful!

Yes - I’ve missed watching live skating so much! Between this and Russian test skates we’ve actually got quite a bit to watch this weekend.
