That's because penguins are born that way and can't help it.

Is it wrong that I was suddenly reminded of those everlasting Vera Wangs? Because if ever there was penguin suit: (insert image of Nathan Chen in a black-and -white monstrosity here. I forgot to credit the image and can't find the site back that i got it from.)

I helped a friend with some amateur film-making (a Star Wars fan film, of all things) about ten years ago and I ended up on IMDB too. It's like wikipedia, anyone can fill it out. Director Yuzu though...can you imagine? The scene: rinkside, on the set of the new film "The Legend of Nessie: Hunt for 4A". Directer Yuzuru Hanyu watches as skater after skater sails by the cameras, each one trying and failing to give a sense of the glory that is the Axel jump. After the fifth skater, Hanyu jumps up and waves his clipboard in the air. HANYU: Cut! CUT! The cameraman stops filming and takes the opportunity to warm his hands up - it's a cold rink. Hanyu turns to the skaters. HANYU: Everyone, come here please! I have something important to say. The skaters glide over, tired and sweaty, but hanging on Hanyu's every word. He's The King. They want to do their best for him. HANYU: Those jumps were...not enough, guys. This is the Axel we're talking about. I'm only asking you to do 3As, it's easy. Why do they all look so...so.. Cameraman interjects CAMERAMAN: - small? HANYU: - no, they were all small but that's not it. They were missing something else...what is it... CAMERAMAN: - the right number of rotations? HANYU: Well, a few were under rotated, true. Hanyu tries not to look at certain skaters, but they know who they are. HANYU: but, no... CAMERAMAN: There were some pretty shaky landings too. Hanyu shakes his head. HANYU: No, not that... He presses a forefinger into his chin and tilts his head, deep in thought, then brightens. He's got it. He smiles a big scrunchy smile. HANYU: That's right! Those jumps didn't have enough - The skaters look at each other. Suddenly they realize what's coming next. HANYU: Shuuuu...and...Pah! You all need to do it with more Sshhuuu-pa! He demonstrates with a little twirl, smiling brightly. SKATERS, under their breaths: Right. Shuu-pa. Got it. HANYU: Okay, everyone, go again. Ten more Axels each!

They look so happy! Good for them. Every time I see a skater who is still competing get married these days, I can't help but think of Brezina and how his skating settled down and got consistent after his marriage. I wonder if it'll be like that for Kolyada.

Well, at any rate, it's not luck that gives him the win. It's putting in more hard work than anyone else does. Years ago I read an article about athlete superstitions and the role they play in sports psychology. To sum it up, most athletes' rituals and superstitions become a part of their preparation, like a kind of image training. So they do help the athlete, but not because of supernatural forces - it's because they play a role in getting the athlete into a winning mindset. We all know that Yuzu is meticulous about the whole image he creates on the ice, and hair is a part of that. So if he is superstitious about his hair, we can safely guess that what he's most likely to be superstitious about is that it looks right for the performance of the program and fits with the program's image, along with the costume. And in that sense, every hairstyle he wears is a winning hairstyle because they all match his chosen image for each song so nicely.

That made him look cutely nerdy, I thought. Jump- and spin- proof, as well.

Roman Sadovsky update: He sounds stoked to be going to NHK.

There's 2 or 3 of them going to Skate Canada, no? seems redundant for them to do ACI as well.

And we thought 'Final Time Traveller' was just the name of a song. Joking apart, Yuzu still has more hair-styling skills than I do.

True. I don't really see that as superstitious, though. More like a statement of fact - he is the King. A King wears gold. That's just how it is.

It's fine. Just realize the LGC hair is a bit of a sacred cow in this here forum. He won every time he skated with Origin hair except for Worlds , and as someone else pointed out, he lost that one on the error in Otonal, nothing to do with Origin at all. So I don't even think you can make a connection between his results and his hair at all. I'm pretty sure Yuzu himself doesn't.

In the west, that's called a 'widow's peak'. I don't know why. It definitely enhances his beauty.- General Yuzuru Chat
Blasphemy! LGC hair is Yuzu's best look. And he won Worlds 2017 with that and H&L, so you can't separate them. I don't hold with superstition. Yuzu wins because he's the superior competitor, not because of luck.- General Yuzuru Chat
I don't know about a level up, but he's 24 and a half, it's only natural that he's become more mature and stronger, both physically and mentally. It would be wholly unnatural if he stayed the same forever. Personally I think he's become fully adult now, and it's going to be very exciting to see what he does from here on out. But as for his Ex, typically he's super-efficient about them. I mean he kept Notte Stellata for several years and likewise with the other ones, so my guess is we'll be seeing HYK for a good bit yet.- General Yuzuru Chat
Yes, definitely the fine, rich sherry on the cake. He is also the fresh juicy cherry on the cake as well. Pound cake soaked in sherry with cherries on top would actually be a great dessert, come to think of it.- General Yuzuru Chat
....he also enjoys jumping. At least, that's what he has said in the past.- General Yuzuru Chat
THAT WAS AMAZING!!! but where are the jumps? My vision includes a massive blazing sky-high quad right at that first huge guitar chord in We Will Rock You, followed by a snappy combo to finish off the guitar solo. Scratch spin works too, though.- General Yuzuru Chat
I think it would be harder to get the rest of the lyrics and make it rhyme though. If Yuzu's going to do Queen, I want to see him do "We Will Rock You" , opening with a one-foot choreo during Freddy Mercury's acapella chant, and match all the jumps to those screaming long guitar notes- General Yuzuru Chat
TBH, whenever someone mentions Roxanne, it's Sting's falsetto that I hear in my head. The movie version is a travesty.- General Yuzuru Chat
But, think about it. Wouldn't it be fun to see Yuzu's interpretation of that music? Except the opening howl would have to be " IIIICSSSsse- CHAN!" instead of Rozanne. IIIICSSSSSE-CHAAAANNN! You don't have to freeze me out tonight Practice is over You just have to get resurfaced right give me your support honey you let my blades glide along so light &tc - General Yuzuru Chat
