We have quite a discussion about this hoolabaloo in the Team USA thread so feel free to come over. Anyway, this is somewhat off topic so I will say it just once here: I shared the same sentiments with some others. He issued this suddenly very eloquent, thoughtful apology, what, 6 days after the interview was out, including 4 days of it floating on youtube (likely to stay there if nobody said anything) and 2 days after (and only after) the backlash on social media. Textbook damage control, if you ask me. Oh well, he now officially belongs to the toxic masculinity club in my book. And I wish this club a very floppy year ahead, whatever they do.

He apologized. So the damage control went like this: took down the video -> "media" gearing the attention away from him / saying the guy is too young, he didn't know what to say, the interviewers were to blame and blah blah -> he posted a video to apologize and suddently became so eloquent and supposedly sincere. IMG is good. Oh well, if he really means it, good for him. If not, well...

Ya think he will go for something connecting to the Chinese culture? Karen and Vincent have already gone this route and it makes sense but I wouldn't be surprised if he does something similar. ANYWAY, it will be the funniest thing in the world if he really does classical music. Truly so.

(unless he dude broes it up and skates to the punk rock/hip hop version LoL). Also, bless his inner masculinity cos it seems he is bringing Nemesis back. It is not LOL. If I have to summarize, his little speech goes like this: He is a straight guy in a sport perceived as feminine and dominated by the homosexual/LGBTQ -> He doesn't like that FS is not perceived as it should be -> he and his like-minded peeps try to change that by staying the h*** away from classical pieces/ballet (feminine) and instead using more hip-hop and pop (masculine). PS: Mad respect for Yuzu for being so, so eloquent all the time. Speeches like this give me headache.

The implication aside, the researcher in me keeps yelling "any numbers to prove that?" LOL. Objectively speaking, I doubt if we will ever have any statistics to say whether FS is dominated by the LGBTQ+ community or not, so his assertion doesn't make much sense. EDIT: Even more funny cos he studies statistical stuff at Yale. Also, what's with him 1) undermining classical music and movements, 2) basically equalizing hip hop & pop = masculinity and somehow that will change public view of FS? On a side note, I would really like to know his supposedly group of friends who are embracing this school of thought so I can stay away from watching or supporting them because *welp* Anyway, back to the main point, "It's really disappointing that this mindset is still very pronounced"=> this

What do you mean he wasn't involved? He promoted Tokyo Olys in PC. He's been doing other stuff this year as well. He's done what he could.

Also, very off topic, but MISIA will sing the anthem at the opening ceremony. I legit freak out. That has got to be the only bright thing about the whole mess that is the Tokyo Olympics for me. MISIA is one of my most favorite JPN singers EVER and I have been praying for so long (probably will continue to) that she would collaborate with Yuzu one day. It would be EPIC.

I prefer him not to. He's already done his part to promote that cursed event, like a responsible athlete from Japan that he is. No need to go any further and this includes showing up.
