  1. Sigh Jack. My impression is that he wanted to counter the negative stuff circulating around Yuzuru's decision to skate with this, similar to what Minoru Sano did but from a different angle and unfortunately expressed in a stupid, ineffectual way... Would help if he didn't explain the decision as if it were only about Plushenko and fans, since we know from Yuzuru that it was even deeper than that. I like that Jack sincerely admires Yuzu but I'm not a fan of him as a journalist or writer. The whole offending section should have been omitted, the rest is OK except for the clunky sentence that almost reads like Kazuki disappointed Japan by finishing third, and maybe too much of Jack's personal musings overall... but I guess that was the fan in him leaking out. Still he must have an editor?? It falls short of toxic masculinity for me because there is no glorifying violence or aggression as a masculine ideal, but it is sexist and a big turnoff. Pretty sure no one reading Ice Time expected or wanted a lecture on manliness from Jack! Also the comparison to NBA players is inappropriate IMO, those are contracted professionals making multi-million dollar decisions under a totally different kind of pressure.
  2. I feel like the outcome in this reading is exactly where Yuzuru is right now, so a new one is in order... Thanks @Vulnavia! Now he is looking at everything in a different light, thanks to the fall and starting with how he approached the FS. Like when he said maybe he caused this to happen (I forget the exact words), I don't think he was being fatalistic or self-blaming but really turning everything over in his mind to find what he might have missed or taken for granted, what he needs to change, etc.
  3. The talk about skating while injured seems especially difficult with Yuzuru because he did it so many times when other people probably wouldn't have, and he maybe shouldn't have. He is still that same passionate and headstrong person, but I think he really is in a place now where he can take as much time as he needs, so I hope he does it... I don't think anyone else is close enough to 4A for him to be concerned about that, but maybe my bias is showing. I already rewatched CoR Origin and I'm doing it again today when it's on TV here... It was beautiful and inspiring, his spirit really shined through and the impression of the god-man pouring all of his divine power into the world he created, finally becoming human, was stronger than ever. Everyone's said so many amazing, touching things, I am just so proud of Yuzuru for following his heart and fighting. He didn't do it blindly and impetuously, it was a difficult and fully considered decision that was 100% him. Love him always! Still being totally unproductive and un-Yuzulike here... Time to get to work
  4. I'm trying my best not to assume anything either way but that's hard. Take each day at a time and make the most of it like Yuzuru would do, starting now because after the fall I've been pretty worthless all weekend... I watched this and the "Why We Love Yuzuru Hanyu" one a bunch of times yesterday. This is the creator's post about it (did a similarly great one last year too):
  5. This is a nice thing to think about... 23 is a special number too
  6. The main photo here is so great... Looks like a much younger Yuzuru! I love this pose and his expression is so fierce. And I like the story being told in these pictures even if it's incomplete, oversimplified. Schedule has the VC at 2:00 local time, so like 7 hours from now
  7. Nice use of the no-no finger... I think Dory should have some fun though!
  8. I wonder if they meant that there's only one other man alive who did the same? Still a dumb mistake (especially since it doesn't matter who's alive or dead for this) but seems a bit more forgivable to me somehow... On NBC Tara did go through the whole "since Dick Button" thing.
  9. Too true! And I was going to ask if there was an ACl one, glad I didn't miss it
  10. This is great!! It's so much longer, but I think I ruined my brain with this one (cross post from Helsinki Men FS), it seems slightly more in sync? I think the "mmmm" in gambare is key:
  11. I don't speak Korean but it looks like the post was removed? I was going to see if the GIF would be what I thought it was. I think a lot of people who create these instigating posts must know that they're wrong, but they don't care because it's just a means to an end.
  12. (Cross posting from the Helsinki FS thread, edits comparing the 2 versions so far) So much changed, but it's temporary; I'm waiting and watching to see how it develops. I'm just glad he figured out how to work with the ice, especially since he said his physical condition wasn't great... Although I wondered if this meant that it was early in the season so his condition is still building, and/or the fatigue in his feet that he mentioned later, or something else.
  13. I think/hope the finger was just for today... Or that it will be saved for later in the season, at least. Would seem to lose meaning if he kept doing it over and over!
  14. Side by side of Otonal stsq, ACl vs Helsinki
  15. I would love to read Brian's words... Seems like it could sell well in Japan as an English-learning title, with both languages side by side. I think the first time I read Norwegian Wood was in an edition like that. Maybe if it's popular enough!
  16. I was thinking about this too! But more in terms of it being yet another of his prodigious calculations...
  17. Please never change!! A kaleidoscope of moods... My concern about the tweets was just that Ghislain might get in trouble, and we'll never hear from him again. But it was a real treat. Thinking about the crazy idolizing fans makes me feel so frustrated, sad and angry. It's like they feel entitled to this awful behavior, WHY... But I'm grateful that Yuzuru has protection and support, and I'm extremely glad for moments like the shush! I'd be so ashamed if a person I admired did that to me (or someone like me), hope many more fans learn from it.
  18. I keep peeping into this thread and it's so nerve wracking... Couldn't vote at all! I hope he will land it this season but no one else is even close, so I still think it will be later rather than earlier... I was for next season but landing it in Origin would be the ultimate honor to Plushenko. Pretending that is the plan, then maybe WTT? Re: PJ's interview with Shae-Lynn, I love it but don't think it's more useful for 4A prediction than anything else we've seen so far. When SL pauses after mentioning quad axel, PJ fills in saying, "Which I saw him practice by the way, pretty remarkable." This can be misheard as "Which I saw in practice..." for a different meaning. Then PJ says, "Not quite there, but it's close."
