  1. THE CREATION OF ORIGIN

    Quote

In Bourne’s mind, the music sounded epic and on the suggestion of her husband Bohdan Turok, she looked to Japanese mythology for a storyline. She was inspired by Kojiki, the Japanese Account of Ancient Matters, which chronicles the mythical creation of Japan.

She could envision that creation and wanted to illuminate it through movement on the ice. Although she won’t speak for how Hanyu interprets the music, she offers theirs was a rich collaboration in creating the movement and the program’s framework.

Coincidence as it may be, it's really amazing to see how far he's come. Origin indeed.

What's the horizontal axis for? And I wonder what the size of the circles mean?

According to google translate, it's "exposure" as measured in terms of TV showtimes. So basically they're measuring social media attention and the TV exposure of different talents, some get popular on social media before getting TV exposure, and some vice versa.

Idk about the size tho. Could be the earnings from the translations.

  4. Ah I see! Thank you, that clarifies a lot T^T Interesting comment on the red clays! Maybe the reason for the divergence just boils down to the "haniu" vs "hanifu" pronunciation.

Initially I couldn't figure out where the "羽“ from Habu came from, thought it's unlikely for the theory provided by the Miyagi Hanyuten shrine to apply to the islands. Seems like the lord just made the kanji up after hearing the pronunciation Habu lol. Coincidentally, the islands are also home to venomous snakes called "habu", but maybe the snakes were called habu after the place.

I got the second link from yuzusorbet too, but for the first 2017 video I had to do a lot of digging and copy+pasting before I found the name of the show from Japanese articles haha... didn't come across any translations / potential translations so far. If the translation goes through I'm willing to sub the videos! I think it's a fun show to watch, would be a great one to share.

    *unrelated*

Not knowing Japanese was such a pain :( , was trying to research on the rumours that Yuzuru's family crest 丸に三つ盛亀甲花菱 could indicate his heritage as a member of the Azai branch family... Ended up getting more confused as it seems that the crest was commonly used by merchants in the Edo period? And that Nikaido clan uses exactly the same crest as Azai clan where both are descended from the same clan Fujiwara, though Nikaido clan's ancestors seemed to be based on the far south of Japan at Kagoshima whereas Azai came from Hokke (northern branch)? AND that Azai Nagamasa's father might've used a different family crest, and since Nagamasa's brothers and his own sons were wiped out, if his uncles indeed used different family crests it is unlikely for an Azai branch clan using Nagamasa's family crest to arise? LOL i'm so dead.

  5. Dear translators,

I found two videos regarding the origins of the "Hanyu / Habu" surname! Would be extremely grateful if anyone can translate these.

    "Feather" theory

    https://www.bilibili.com/video/av10923482/

    "Red clay" theory

    https://www.bilibili.com/video/av24194115

I would like to write a tumblr article on this, but I am still confused about some parts. I understand Chinese, and from the "Feather" theory as summarised by weibo users, it seems that the "Habu" surname took after the name of a local bay? My main question is how did it end up with the kanji 羽生. Same with the "Red clay" theory - is it just coincidence that the two areas both decided to use the kanji 羽生?

    Thank you so much.

Me too. Like there're jokes on Rus forums: why care who pays for Zhenya's training even if it's RusFed, we're wasting much more money for loosy football team now (never cared about football anyway).

Zhenya's skating was never my cup of tea (though I liked her debut senior FS), but she's a tough competitor - it's hard not to respect that. So it's very interesting what TCC can do with her skating (I still remember that with Yuzu the first year together was controversial in terms of programmes, but Med is going there as already a mature skater, so maybe she already has some ideas of her own). Now is a good time for change - at least one more year there will be no strong new juniors jumping to seniors and even after two years we don't know how they'll grow up (though girls are really unique, it would be a waste if smth. goes down), Alina might still grow and never was as consistent as Med (though she's sweet, I wish her the best). Also there will be new GOE rules so at first year judges might not throw +5 here and there like +3 now.

And kudos to Med's PR team/manager and to her how she handled the press today.

Now I really want to here some Brian's words even though I know he will be smooth and polite

I'm speaking as Russian. Actually, it was a quite smart move from Eteri. Bcs she "showed" that for her all her pupils are equal and Zhenya is ungrateful and nasty biNch. Don't forget Russian tradition of coach-pupil thing and Eteri with Zhenya was much closer aka 11 years together  - Zhenya called Eteri second mom and Eteri her - daughter, and this dirty bomb was on National Russian 1st channel in prime time, so for wide masses, who didn't know much abt FS Zhenya now is a betrayer and bad, really bad person.

For me, who know situation abt Eteri and FS in general, it's dirty and ugly move from Eteri, from average Rus citizen the bad one in that story - Zhenya.

That is very sad :( stay strong Zhenya

I know the situation is completely different but Nanami also didn't know about Yuzuru moving to Canada to train. She didn't say anything negative about him to media and they are still friendly to each other. I am so thankful for his every single coach. Former or current.

Nanami knew. She was the one who suggested Yuzu to train overseas after Worlds 2012, according to Aoi Hono. Yuzu initially didn't want to, he wanted to be trained in Sendai and give back all he could to the town, but he eventually realised he do need a new environment. Yuzu even considered the Russian camps and ultimately settled on TCC with the backing of Japanese Fed.

But I do agree that Yuzuru's coaches, current and former are all really amazing people. Nanami for one, knowing what's best for your student instead of trying to take fame for herself. A lot of high schools I've seen in my home country refuse to send their best students for scholarship applications to prestigious high schools because they wanted to keep them for themselves.

  12. To be honest I think Yuzu will do even better with Boyang there. He did say in Aoi hono that when learning jumps, it helps immensely when he is able to observe successful jumps and incorporate those into his image training. That’s how he started out with quad toes and quad sals, and the primary reason he wanted to train with Javi.

    Image training is such a big part of his training;

    • his elementary school coach says he can do whatever he is able to imagine,
    • he corrects his own jumps by imagining himself in 3D and straightening himself here and there,
    • he does nightly image training and he stresses its importance often in interviews,
    • he bombs when he couldn’t image successful landings and programmes which affected him a lot in LGC,
    • and he suffered a lot when he couldn’t do so after the earthquake because he’d think about the shaking whenever he closes his eyes.
