So the Citizen post on Weibo says:

Limited time event for Qixi festival

Did you enjoy today’s Yuzu video? Did you get how to plank? What are you waiting for? Time to move! C-chan will give you an activity where you rely on strength instead of luck! Win a Yuzuru Hanyu autographed photo with your own abilities! “C-chan supports you competition” starts now! (T/n: the name of the contest is kind of a word play on the chinese translation of “plank”)

Activity time: from now until august 25 2020 12:07PM (I presume China time)

Activity details: record a video of yourself doing a plank, the one who uploads a video of themselves holding a plank in proper form for the longest time before the contest ends to win an autographed picture from Yuzuru Hanyu!

Activity rules: proper form (ps: c-chan will watch you intently!) In the video there needs to be some kind of stopwatch displayed (pps: c-chan needs to clearly see the time on the stopwatch, they will consider the duration you held the plank properly and not the duration of the video)

For more details, proper planking form and joining process please see the pictures below.

(And then here they post the links for joining the group and the links for uploading your video)

    Go everyone!!

    *******************
So in this post Citizen uploads 3 photos:

photo 1: basically describing more rules in detail. Every weibo ID can only upload one video, if you upload more than one video they will only consider the first one uploaded. You cannot edit the video after posting it, or you will be disqualified. The proper form will be according to the one uploaded by Citizen, if you are not holding proper form you will be disqualified. The final results will be considered using your first upload before the contest time ends. In the video you need to show some kind of stopwatch showing your plank duration (like a watch, stopwatch on your phone etc) and you have to show the timer moving and clearly displayed. Citizen owns all rights to this event.

Photo 2: a picture of a lady doing a plank with a stopwatch beside her. I assume this is the picture that Citizen is using as an example of proper form and display of the stopwatch.

Photo 3: “c-chan supports you” battle plan:

    1) Click the link to join the group on weibo
    2) after joining the group, watch the notices and videos

    3) upload your video according to the rules

    4) fill up a questionaire

    5) wait for the results to be announced

every weibo ID only has one chance to join.

this is the link to the post on weibo:

    https://m.weibo.cn/2030123513/4540006788771558

In the post you will see the links to join the group etc! They don’t specify if you have to be in China to do this, but you do need a weibo account to join and I know it’s hard to make a weibo account in some countries... :(

I wonder if girls will get their bf to do it lol

    also lmao the comments
    "不小C你错了,我们既不想靠体力也不想靠运气,我们只想砸钱明白不"
C-chan you're wrong, we don't want to rely on our strength or luck, we just want to throw our money at it get it?

I am in close contact with my family in Japan while currently living in BC, Canada.  Based on the performance of the two countries - up to this point - I would feel much better if Yuzu stayed in Canada.  The Japanese national government appears to be hopelessly behind the curve, while we see strong evidence of the spread of disease entering an exponential phase.  In particular, Tokyo municipality is showing every sign of entering a rapid increase phase, and the municipality needs to declare emergency lockdown right now (should have done so last week already)!

Unfortunately, Tokyo Governor Koike can't do so without the backing of the national government, which needs to declare a state of national emergency.  Koike herself was late in focusing on this - until last week she was distracted by Tokyo Olympics postponement decision.  Since then, she has (finally) started issuing warnings to citizens to exercise social distancing, but she can only ask for voluntary action and can't enforce any of it.  Prefectural governments in Japan have limited authority and power is centralized in the national government (Japan is not a federated state).  But national government staff had been cut back to the bare bones by decades of austerity measure, and they are especially lacking in technical experts.   For example, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare have few experienced staff with quantitative analytical skills and have limited direct working experience in public health responses.  I know because I worked with a number of them in recent years as technical specialist and policy advisor and was frankly taken aback by the limited technical know-how of some of their staff.

So now, I am afraid - very very afraid - about the situation in Tokyo and for the safety of my family in Tokyo.  I am praying that I am wrong and that the government will be able to get their act together soon.   With good leadership, I am sure the citizens will rise to the occasion.   Meanwhile, on this side of the Pacific, Canadian federal and BC governments have been quite aggressive and pro-active by comparison - nowhere near perfect and with many gaps, but at least they are coordinating and communicating regularly with the public, and learning and adjusting their approach based on feedback, balancing social distancing policies with economic support to the workers.   It is such a contrast with what is happening in Japan and shocking to behold in real time...

Sad to hear that. Though I was comparing the situation between Toronto which is right next to the New York epicentre, and Sendai which is hopefully far enough from Tokyo. Wherever he is, hope he stay well and healthy.

edit: nvm didn’t realise the distance between Toronto and NY is twice the distance from Tokyo to Sendai. US is a big place

I'm sure the doctors, pharmacists, and (public) health experts of the Planet™ would explain this better than I do but let me reiterate, there has been no conclusive evidence that chloroquine can help alleviate the condition of a corona patient, let alone completely heal them. That minister of health's recovery from coronavirus? That might not necessarily be due to chloroquine itself! All alleged recovery cases from coronavirus by giving them chloroquine are anecdotal at most — it still has not been conclusively determined that chloroquine does have an effect that could positively contribute to the recovery in coronavirus patients.

Besides, chloroquine is a really strong medicine with a strong side effect — it has to be prescribed properly by doctors, otherwise you could easily risk overdosing/poisoning if you just acquire it over the counter and use it without knowing the proper dosage. Until the experts conclusively determine that (hydro)chloroquine is effective for coronavirus treatment I still believe that withholding (over the counter) chloroquine from the public is the good step to take at the moment.

Otherwise, what would the alternative be, letting the public have access to chloroquine, especially without prescription?? Do you really want to see the alternative scenario happen where the whole public is now the guinea pigs, and it results in unnecessary deaths due to chloroquine overdosing?? I definitely don't want to see that unfold.

(Also yes I limit the response only to usage of chloroquine in relation to coronavirus, I don't comment on its usage in relation to lupus — I don't quite grasp the situation on it)

There are already studies with the preliminary effects of some medication on helping the condition, like some antivirals, arthritis medication?, etc. Those are peer reviewed studies so I'd trust them, but yea don't take it without prescription because it can kill you (someone died doing this)

I don't exactly follow her social media accs but she seems to be still in Toronto. IMO the best course for everyone would be to stay put where they are and not do unnecessary trips/travels, on top of keeping your hygiene well and social distancing...

True, that's what I thought too.

Also, this is crazy. Poor Javi

Doctors in France and Italy report there is huge underreporting here.

In Italy, probably because they are overwhelmed.

In France, probably because it was decided not to test, even symptomatic people, and people at risk (such as people working in hospitals).

Agreed. 70% of Singapore's imported cases spike these few days are from UK, yet their official cases isn't much.

It's so frustrating. >:(

Show him the videos of Spanish and Italian hospitals, there's plenty on reddit. That changed some minds for the elderlies I heard. They didn't think they'd get it either.

  7. Japan definitely underreporting cases for hopes at Olympics, we know that Japan didn't have aggressive containment measures, and their numbers don't match up with other countries of similar containment measures strictness.

I'm not sure if Yuzu is in Japan actually, it seemed like everything happened in quick succession.

    March 12 Worlds cancelled

    March ?? TCC closed

March 18 Canada inbound travel restriction imposed

Not sure if he got the tickets in time. Wish the Worlds were cancelled sooner so he could leave earlier. Then again he is a stats student, I hope he understands the risks.

Him being home will be great, there'll be a lot of much needed family time they missed over the years. But if his father and sister still works there's a risk of getting the virus, though probably not as high a chance than his mother shopping in Toronto for groceries, considering the state of New York right now. He also has to keep in mind that he might not be able to come back to Canada, and we don't know how long the restriction will last. Perhaps he will have private lessons when the worst is over?

Also, the Spanish flu disappeared for a while in the Summer and came back in full force in the Autumn. Hope it doesn't happen here.

Is Zhenya back in Russia now?

Edit: Glad that my parents are reasonable and understand the risks. Best of luck to everyone and stay healthy!

  9. Need to talk about this haha, I've been waiting for 5 years and finally they have an anime! I know people who have waited for 10 years

Basically Tower of God is a Korean webcomic that recently got an adaptation, it has over 4.5 billion views so far. It's still ongoing and you can read it here. For 7 other languages including Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, you can find them here.

The reason this is huge, because this is basically the first EVER Korean webcomic to receive a full anime adaptation. It was published in 2010, but despite its popularity, no one knew if it'll ever be adapted. We're so happy it happened this year. Naver is rich and they even got a Kpop band to perform the OP and ED. We got some big names too, namely Bakugo's VA for Khun, All Might's VA for Rak, Saori for Rachel, Kevin Penkin is composing the music, Bleach's character designer, and many more.

It is an Epic Fantasy series, most commonly compared to One Piece and Hunter x Hunter. A lot of world building but more serious tone overall, kind of like Harry Potter or Attack on Titan in my opinion. I liked it for its detailed world building and more mature themes, I wrote a long review here

The art isn't that great in the beginning, but improved a lot as it goes on. Hopefully they'll update the art if we get a season 2. The current colouring in the anime reminds me of Studio Ghibli vibes.

He may as well be stuck where he is in Toronto not being able to train, vs. risking a long trip and virus exposure just to be stuck in Sendai not being able to train. I can't see any ice shows going on as scheduled in the current climate, and I can't see any of his sponsors requiring him to come to Japan right now. So stay inside, stay healthy and play Pokemon, Yuzu :D

ice time is really important for them though, I heard one day without ice practice can seriously set back their jumps for a lot. but at least he has experience and is not in a rush

Apparently, specialists say asthma isn't an aggravating fact for COVID-19. It is a bit confusing, because you'd expect it to be, but I hope they're right. And anyway, Yuzu rarely goes anywhere that isn't TCC, so I think he should be fine, as long as he doesn't have to travel.

Strange, because mild to severe COVID causes inflammation & pneumonia that floods your alveoli, and I don't know his trigger for asthma but it's also basically an inflammatory disease on the airways of lungs. Maybe what they mean is that they affect different parts of the lungs?

I'm scared though, because both have to do with inflammation response, and I hope they really have nothing to do with each other

Edit: F https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325312 "Asthma does not directly cause pneumonia, but people with a history of chronic respiratory problems, such as asthma, could have a higher risk of developing pneumonia."

I guess we should be happy that he does not have to increase the chance of exposing himself to the virus. Lots of figure skaters, fans and staff from Europe in an enclosed arena for days, with possibility of asymptomatic viral shedding? Definitely recipe for disaster. Glad the Canadian government stepped in because ISU didn't seem like they wanted to shut it down. If this went ahead Yuzu would probably have to attend.

Also everyone who bought the gala tickets that got turned into an award show finally can get the refund lol

It looks like I opened a can of worms with my posting.

I never said that strong people don’t need a therapist nor did I say that seeking help meant that a person is weak.

I am not some kind of Neanderthal.

I was looking at this purely from Yuzuru Hanyu’s perspective. I said that he was too strong and too self-reliant to seek a therapist. This is based on everything I’ve seen of and heard from Yuzu over the years. Perhaps I should have said that he was too strong-willed.

I was a trial lawyer specializing in personal injury for over 35 years and I am fully aware of the benefits of psychiatrists, psychologists and psychotherapists. In dealing with my clients’ cases, I would arrange for independent assessments by the appropriate experts, including those involving mental health. If the family physician of a particular client had not referred him or her for psychological counseling and the independent assessment I had arranged recommended it, I would send the independent assessment report to the family physician and request the appropriate referral. If I personally thought that the client would benefit from counseling, I would speak to his or her family physician and try to arrange for it. So I am not blind to the potential benefit of counseling of any kind, including me providing non-legal, supportive counseling to my clients.

In my experience as a lawyer, I found that counseling was of benefit to some of my clients and not to others. There were many of my clients who did not require counseling even though they had suffered devastating injuries.

I feel compelled to give a summarized version of my own life so that people know where I am coming from. I personally have had to deal with a life altering injury and a series of challenges. At the age of 27, a year and a half after I had become a lawyer, I lost control of my vehicle on a highway, went into a ditch, shot out like a ski jump, turned turtle in mid air and came down on the roof. I broke my neck and was rendered a quadriplegic. When I arrived at the acute spinal cord injury unit, I was paralyzed from the neck down.

The orthopedic resident who first spoke to me in the Intensive Care Unit did not have much of a bedside manner. His first words to me were, “You’ve broken your neck and you’re paralyzed from the neck down. We have to put your neck in traction and in order to do that we have to attach a halo ring on your head with four screws using a torque wrench. To freeze the screw sites, we are going to inject them with anesthetic, and that’s going to hurt.”

The thought that went through my mind when I heard that was, “I have no feeling from my neck down. Why the fuck do they have to stick needles into the only part of my body that has sensation?”

They did a discectomy and I started to recover function. 4 ½ months later, I walked out of the spinal cord unit on elbow crutches. I spent 3 ½ months as an inpatient at a rehabilitation centre and at the end of it, I walked out without any aids. I spent another 3 months as an outpatient attending rehab 1 ½ days per week and working as a lawyer 3 ½ days a week. At the end of that, I returned to work full-time. I was considered the miracle of the spinal cord unit for recovering as much as I did.

Prior to the injury, I was very physically active. I had my black belt in judo and competed at two Canadian national championships. I skied and participated in any pickup sports or physical activities. I was a good dancer and had natural musicality. I was also very artistic and had beautiful handwriting.

As a result of the injury, I could no longer run or participate in any sports. I lost the dexterity in my hands so that I was no longer artistic nor did I have very good handwriting. I was incontinent with respect to both my bladder and bowel functions. I had to wear a leg bag for my urine and just had to be very careful about my bowel routine or else I would have accidents at the most inopportune times. If I had a malfunction with my condom drainage, I would end up with a big urine stain on my suit pants.

And to add insult to injury, my first wife who I married when I was in my final year of law school, stopped coming to see me at the hospital one month after my injury. She apparently thought that I would never practice law again.

Still, I was extremely grateful that I had recovered as much as I did. I maintained a very positive attitude about life, work and my future.

About 6 ½ years after the spinal cord injury, it was discovered that I had syringomyelia – a syrinx in my cord and I underwent surgery to insert a shunt. I felt immediate improvement in my condition.

Unfortunately, I was hit in five more car accidents through no fault of my own over the following 20 years, all of them causing major aggravation and deterioration of my condition. I also had two more spinal cord surgeries requiring post-surgical rehab. I also had a total left hip replacement because of the steroid antibiotics that had been used and this surgery also required rehabilitation treatments. All of these surgeries made my condition worse.

In September 2011, we traveled to Germany for two weeks with another couple assisting us. Unbeknownst to me at the time, Yuzu was competing in another part of Germany in the Nebelhorn Trophy. I had developed open pressure ulcers in my butt prior to the trip and as a result of the long flights and extended time in my wheelchair, they became infected. By the time I returned to Canada, it had developed into osteomyelitis – bone infection. I was hospitalized for 3 ½ months on intravenous antibiotics. Even after my discharge, I had to continue with a special form of IV antibiotics at home for another month and a half.

Before this trip to Germany, my wife and I were independent in the sense that I was able to stand up from the bed or wheelchair and get dressed with my wife’s assistance. We were able to go to my law practice every day and do things together without a third person assisting us. After Germany and my hospitalization and prolonged bed rest, I was no longer able to stand up at all even with assistance from my wife. Since then, we have had to rely on someone else to help us whenever I need to get out of bed.

It became impossible to go to the office regularly and I closed my practice and retired as a lawyer 7 ½ years ago.

I have now lost all use of my body below my neck. I have constant pain and stiffness in my neck. I have chronic pressure ulcers on my tailbone and right buttock. I have frequent urinary tract infections often requiring hospitalization and intravenous antibiotic treatment.

Throughout all of this my mood has fluctuated and there were times when I experienced situational depression, so I think that I, better than most, understand what Yuzuru has gone through. I personally did not need or desire counseling or therapy of any kind. As expected, it was offered to me countless times because people expect you to be depressed or in need of counseling when you go through life-changing experiences like I have. Sometimes I was very irritated and felt intruded on by the attempts to almost force counseling on me when I didn’t need it and I had not exhibited anything which would signal the need for counseling. Sometimes I felt like I was caught in a Catch-22 because when I acted normal and well-balanced emotionally because I genuinely felt that way and they suspected that I was just masking my depression.

I think that Yuzuru and I have a similar mindset. Of course, that is just speculation on my part because I am not him, but I am basing that assessment on what I have seen and heard regarding Yuzu and analyzing it from my experiences with my own challenges as well as having lived life for 69 years.

So when I said that Yuzu is too strong and too self-reliant to ever need a therapist, I was not putting other people down for finding benefit in therapy.

And unlike @rockstaryuzu, I do not believe that Yuzu has now or ever consulted with a sports therapist. Every elite athlete in Western society may consult one, but I do not think Yuzu does. Someone else suggested that The Cricket Club has sports therapists on call so that Yuzu would be able to consult with one if he wanted to. I do not think that any sports therapists that are available to skaters at The Cricket Club are fluent in Japanese. So I believe that is a non-starter, even if Yuzu had an interest in consulting with one, which I do not think he has.

I am not saying that I am particularly strong because I have been able to deal with life and my challenges without the need for a therapist or counseling. And again, I am not suggesting that someone is weak because they seek therapy or counseling. All I can say about myself is that I have maintained a positive attitude towards life notwithstanding my circumstances and have enjoyed life despite my limitations. With quadriplegia, there is no “light at the end of the tunnel” and no comforting thoughts like, “It is darkest before the dawn.” There is no hope of physical recovery, so there is never going to be a dawn unless you make your own light and happiness.

Hope you are well, glad that you made it through all that.

I think in the end we just don't know whether he needs one or not. Some people take offence at being offered therapy when they don't need them, but many others take offence at being told that they don't need therapy when they really did need them. It's a common problem in conservative societies where the intervention are unnecessarily delayed for people who really needed them, resulting in worsened conditions or even deaths that could've been prevented if their pleas for help was taken seriously.

For example, I had severe depression that is directly caused by hepatitis C, so external intervention was needed in my case, but I couldn't get one because my family didn't believe me when I said I needed one. I finally got treatment, and I'm in a better place now, but not until it worsened and caused damage that didn't really need to happen had I gotten timely help.

I can look forward now, but it really sucked when people insist that they know what you need or don't need. I think there's no cases that would justify the reasoning "If I didn't need it, you don't need it because I think you are similar to me", because our assumptions of Yuzu based on "what we see online" are often very different from what the reality actually is for him.

We often see Yuzu as strong as resilient, but based on his translated interviews, he also cries a lot in private and have a tendency to overthink or get overwhelmed by his own emotions. Even parents don't always understand what their children needs, what more fans who only know the side of him known to public. This is best left to professionals with the necessary technical expertise.

Let's just enjoy Yuzu without speculating what he needs, or projecting our thoughts onto him. He is himself, and he knows what he needs.

This comment from Stojko (2009) is wow. Just wow. I put this in spoilers, because it's a bit off-topic:

      Hide contents

"I do think if you concentrate too much on the feminine side of skating, then you will lose the male crowd."

Ewn... what male crowd? A male crowd that you don't have? When I look around in figure skating venues, 99% of the audience is female, dear Elvis. If you concentrate on plain jumping and testosterone, you will lose even the female crowd and THAT will be REALLY costly. I promise.

"If you're very lyrical and you're really feminine and soft, well, that's not men's skating. THAT IS NOT MEN'S SKATING, OK? Men's skating is power, strength, masculinity, focus, clarity of movement, interpretation of music."

So, the interpretation of a music piece is not lyrical? And in ladies' skating movements are not meant to be clear and focused or what? Honestly, the amount of stupidity here is... worrying.

I really hope that Yuzu doesn't have to waste more time on this clownery of an award show than absolutely necessary. I really feel with him already... :13877886:

Yuzu can go ahead and skate Notte Stellata to his face, and get him drowned in praises for Yuzu

  14. 3 hours ago, KatjaThera said:

I agree that him going to TCC was probably the best decision of his life. Brian, Tracy and Ghislain and everyone else there are just perfect for Yuzu. Then again, I think they're perfect for a lot of skaters. They did so wonderfully with Javi, helping him reach potential that I'm not sure how many people saw was there, and I think you can see it with Jason and Evgenia as well, skating wise, but also attitude wise. TCC isn't just a training place, it's also a sort of home away from home for skaters, where they are treasured and nurtured and always pushed to become the best version of themselves they can be and encouraged to make their own decisions. I do sometimes wonder how Yuzu would have developed if he'd stayed in Sendai, but I'm not sure Ice Rink Sendai and Nanami-sensei had the resources to take him to the next level.

But I also agree that in general, coaches who are too domineering and uncaring of the skaters' personality are bad for the skater, while at the same time coaches who aren't strict enough and who coddle aren't good either. I often find myself thinking that Boyang and Misha and possibly Roman might need slightly stricter coaches. Admittedly, I don't know anything about their actual relationships with their coaches, but in the KnC, there's a slight feeling of them being coddles when things don't go right. I know a lot of people have issues with how Brian reacts when his skaters have bad skates - he received a lot of criticism for his "I don't know what to say" to Evgenia this season - but I prefer that. It's honest, it's matter of fact and afterwards it will probably become: "Ok, that obviously didn't work. Let's think about what we should do next." Which is infinitely better than a "Oh, you poor thing! Just rest for now and you'll see, everything will be alright!" sort of thing. Finding a balance between too strict and too coddling is probably the hard thing to do for coaches and I'm not entirely sure how many coaches have managed to find it. But TCC have for sure, IMO.

That said, I don't think Yuzu would work well with either of those extremes. He'd butt heads badly with a domineering coach. Some people joke about Yuzu and Eteri, but I'm 100% sure they'd be at each other's throats in 3 days. Or Yuzu would drive her so crazy she'd kick him out after 3 days. Similarly, with a coddling coach, he wouldn't feel challenged and would probably either go crazy doing whatever he wants, or simply decide he needs something else.

As for his personality, I think he has always been very strong and opinionated. Even saying, as a child, that he wants to win two Olympic Gold medals. His personality I think is generally more assertive than your regular Japanese person, although I think he makes up for it in politeness (or perhaps his parents have educated him such, to make sure his politeness counters his assertive personality). But that assertiveness is something many of his haters pick up on, too. I believe there's also quite a contrast between the way Yuzu speaks about wanting to win and what winning - and losing - means to him and the way other skaters speak. I think Yuzu's attitude is perfect and I also think it's essential to achieve this level of success and overcome all the obstacles he's overcome.

I also wonder now if this is one reason I'm not fully warmed up to Rika - and other Japanese skaters. Rika seems so meek in interviews, her voice is so soft and her words so polite and even when she loses she's smiling and projects an "oh, well, I'll just have to do better next time" attitude, but then she goes out there and her skating says something else and the gap confuses me lol I will always cheer for the Japanese skaters, but I admit it feels like something is missing when I can't feel that burning passion for victory - or for bettering oneself - that is so obvious in Yuzu everytime his skates touch the ice. Even in ice shows and exhibitions, you can feel his passion for doing the very best that he can, and I don't really get that as much from most of the other Japanese skaters. But that's perhaps because they're more typically Japanese and not so demonstrative with their feelings...

(and wow, this turned out rambly... sorry :headdesk:)

I think it's really the culture, if you grow up in a typically conservative Asian culture like me you'll get what I mean. It's not just Japan, but perhaps more so in Japan. Girls aren't supposed to be outspoken, girls should be quiet, meek and shy, girls shouldn't be too opinionated or "guys won't like you", girls should be subservient, girls shouldn't be too ambitious, "alpha" girls are lousy girls that no one wants etc. The mentality is everywhere, and you get subtly reminded of it often, whether you like it or not.

Granted not all of Japan thinks that way, but you cannot escape the subconscious moulding, and Yuzu is special in a way that his family allowed his personality to flourish instead of judging it like a conservative society would. Not being a girl helps too. There's a saying in Japan that “The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.”, and I think we underestimate the cost of being "different" in a conservative society. If Rika grew up in a more "open" environment, I'm sure she'll be more "outspoken" than she is now.

Thanks for your opinion. Didn't he recently say at a press conference his dream is to land all 6 quads in a program?

I think he might not retire so soon, as he has a high goal. And to declare that publicly at a press con, sort of tells me he is staying for a while.

On another topic before I go lurking again...

Those stalkers who stalked Yuzu whilst he was walking with Rika, Shun and Yuma. OMG.

Maybe this is why he can't even go outside in Toronto, because these stalkers know where he trains and probably will follow him even if he goes out to the park in Toronto or something. I feel really sorry because to live a life where you can't even have a tourist night in Torino because of stalking fans will be such a nightmare. I once heard he only stays in his hotel and doesn't go watch ladies competitions live anymore. The last time he went to a ladies competition live was 2014 sochi ladies free program. Ever since then, I've never seen him watch events live. Such a shame because sometimes top ladies skaters like Eteri girls can get to watch Yuzu compete live without being mobbed. Maybe he can't go watch competitions live after he finishes his event because of all these stalkers?

Such a shame to know someone can't even go for a night normal stroll even after the competition is over. This is very shocking.

That was before his GPF loss and his historical record being shattered lol. I won’t be surprised if he holds different views now.

Yes I do hear this many times, and yet I find myself listening to them whenever they talk about Yuzu. I will take your feedback very seriously and try to implement them into my posts next time.

Let me ask you this, because I would love to hear your opinion, not mine.

How would you feel though if Yuzu were repeating both his programs again next year?

Do you personally think judges will mark Yuzu's PCS down for recycling them again next year?

I think it is very unlikely, since I doubt he’d keep going if he cannot perfect it for more than a season. He is injury free so far as well, and his reasoning this year was because he was out of competition a lot last year. He never perfected Phantom and Lets Go Crazy I think, yet he never repeated them. Usually he repeats something when there’s something he’d like to focus on, like using his best WR programs for Olympics as a declaration and to scare his rivals, PW because it was a good fit for the OG, Chopin because he was injured the year before and would be less stressful to keep attempting upgraded layouts if he only has to learn one new program, Otonal and Origin because he’s injured last year as well.

If he forms bad memories of these programs this year, I doubt he would continue, look at LGC and Phantom, he never even repeated them in EX. If he forms good memories then there’s no reason to continue using them because the chapter is finally closed with a high note, and he achieved his goals of paying respect to his idols. I suspect he will land the 4A this Worlds and retire. He seems very worn out in this quad race against Nathan at this age, and after landing 4A he’ll have achieved the mark he wanted to. He said himself he won’t go to the Olympics if he can’t win.

Even if in the 0.01% chance he did repeat, he’ll develop and change the program such that those with an eye for figure skating will appreciate it regardless. I hated Notte Stellata in 16-18, but this latest one really changed and grew so much I was shocked. Judges who actually judge won’t let it affect them. Judges who let this kind of things affect them won’t judge him correctly anyway even if he changed his program, like in the 16-17 season.

Yes I see your point. I'm only basing my opinions off what most people who tried to defend Nathan's PCS scores over Yuzu's said why Yuzu is getting underscored in PCS. I think their excuse is bad too. I think marking down someone for recycled programs is pathetic too (although understandable why that might happen). And whilst I know not to trust what TSL said about this, they do know the judges personally (some of them). *According to them they even know some judges who judge adult competitions as well as international competitions.

    And what TSL said was:

"When push comes to shove between Yuzu and Nathan, the judges will bring up that Yuzu is repeating both his programs this year"

I know TSL is a bunch of garbage, but sometimes they do know things we don't.

And yes I know there are exceptions to the rule that some skaters' PCS rises even though they repeat their program.

But how many times have you guys heard people complaining about Ashley Wagner always repeating that program of hers? (I forgot the title, but at one time people were going on and on about it in forums).

I think Yuzu has built a reputation off recycling his programs many times, and whilst some judges won't mind, there may be judges who do.

Yes TSL is just forming their own opinions, then finding reasons to support it. That’s hardly a good conclusion to make, and I feel sorry for whoever believes them. If this happens in research, there’d be outrage over the quality of the conclusion. You don’t conclude that people like to eat peanuts, then look for evidence to support it. You look at the evidence then find out what it tells you, while being prepared to accept that your hypothesis might be wrong or even irrelevant. But for fs no one cares about the truth and integrity of their opinions it seems.

Let them be, it just revealed their ignorance and short term memory of figure skating, where they seem to have no idea how things are like for the rest of the field, yet still pretend to be an expert based on their narrow views. If they think Yuzu has a reputation for repeating his programs, then they haven’t watched figure skating for the last decade, and have no right to make declarative statements like that.

Yeah it is politicking. I'm saying it is unfair politics, but it's a way they find excuses to mark him down for PCS.

Judges scrutinize Yuzu's programs to find excuses or flaws to mark down, and most likely they find his recylcing irritating, whereas they find Nathan's new programs more fresh and more appealing by whatever their standards are.

We cannot say what is most likely or not as an outsider, unless you happen to know the judges themselves. Many Russian officials still prefer Yuzu’s skating as seen during their interaction after GPF. It’s true that Nathan’s ChSq gets higher GOE, but personally I think the nationality is a much bigger factor than whatever excuse they try to come up with. Even with new programs they’d mark him down the same because “he didn’t fit in yet”, like what happened in the 16-17 season. Personally I think the 3 biggest factor is

    1. Nationality. Boyang had similar achievements with Nate when he started, but his PCS remained a solid 10 marks below Yuzu, while Nate’s shot up by 5 marks within the season, and more than 10 marks across seasons.

    2. Results reputation (the more you win, the more you’ll keep winning due to memory bias of the judges in the scene. Yuzu haven’t been in competitions a lot, which allowed Nate to win and nab the advantage. If he came in as the 6x GPF champion (which is very possible for the last 2 years) things might’ve been different. Evgenia missed one GPF and her Olympic fate was sealed for her.

    3. Consistency (a very small factor compared to the other 2, but still significant somehow if all else is equal. Just see Dima vs Samarin)
