On the subject of recycling programs, it's very possible that Yuzu will recycle one of his SP so he won't need to choreograph and learn a completely new routine. However, with 30 seconds having been shaved off of the Free Skate, that would make it VERY difficult to recycle one of those skates, and if he decided to many modifications would have to be made to account for the loss of time. With this in mind, he may find it easier to just choreograph a completely new free skate.

i have regrets

But where can I find something like THAT???

There's a lot of different directions Yuzu could go in regards to figure skating after he re***es. Am I the only person who wouldn't be surprised if he tries his hand at a mix of them? Primarily coach and/or choreograph and take part in an ice show every so often for the sake of performing for an audience. Whatever it is that he decides to do after he hangs up his skates from the professional circuit, I'm definitely interested to see exactly what it is he does and will surely support him no matter what route he takes. Considering the injuries he's attained, and the current one he's dealing with, I wouldn't be surprised if he's just going to take figure skating season by season, if not event by event. It's kind of hard to keep a big goal like "I want a 3rd OG" when between now and then when you have no idea how you'll be performing a couple years in the future or, heaven forbid, another injury is gotten that puts a big question mark on if you'll even be able to compete anymore.

I mean, this isn't impossible.

In regards to that I'd also say that Hanyu fighting the Olympic Demon would make more sense. I would kind of like to see a movie made about Hanyu's skating career, but not until quite awhile in the future, as kind of a way to keep what he's contributed to the sport in memory. I'd like to be optimistic but in 10, 20, 30 years from now are people going to remember him? I have no idea who would play him but if something like it doesn't happen for a couple decades there's enough time for a new actor to pop up who would be able to play the role. More well-made documentaries are always welcomed though! I absolutely loved the one that aired earlier this year.

If he doesn't face any kind of reinjury during training in the off-season then it's definitely possible. To see him break the record he set there this season would be a bloody amazing comeback.

Kind of related. The hour before the men's free skate for the Olympics started, I was at a restaurant with my mother and right on the wall we were faced towards was a television showing Olympic Ice, a show NBC has on with Scott Hamilton and a chic where they talk about figure skating and they talked about the performance of the men in the short program. Right when they replayed footage of the shower of Poohs, my mom and I both said "The sea of Pooh!" right as our server was walking by our table. He was confused AF. We had explaining to do. So we waited until that clip was played again, hoping that it would be played again. When it was shown again, my mother and I were flagging down our server, who again conveniently passed by our table, to prove that we weren't crazy and that we were indeed just talking about a shower of stuffed Winnie the Pooh.

I honestly think that's the case with everyone who sees the shower of Pooh plushes thinks. After seeing that, it isn't exactly easy to dispute.

I suggest that from this point forward all streaming parties should be named "screaming parties" Lord knows that's what we all do whenever he does good. during the olympic free skate i was at a hotel and got noise complaints because of how loud i was. oops.

Thanks for the answer!

That aerial shot was just amazing. Thank you for that gift.

i'm going to really sound like a noob now but what's AERA? I've heard of it but haven't the foggiest what it is.

tmw a kid in Canada can land all of the quads, that have been done in competition so far, and you're proud of yourself for not missing a class from oversleeping.

Kind of already been said but since a 4A hasn't been done in competition yet, it isn't technically considered part of the count of "all of the quads".

I love these new yuzuticons. This is definitely my favorite. I've already used this gif at least a dozen times on discord.

Oh god I have so much to learn.

Well if that's the case, it looks like I discovered this site at the right time! I've known about ice shows for awhile but really just ones in the US, since those are always on major television networks but regular season figure skating hardly ever is and I have to rely on the Canadian channel and be thankful I live as close to the border as I do. I didn't know about ice shows in other countries, primarily FaOI until I heard someone else mention it. after yuzu saying kaneki could eat him on live television i think we know why the media withholds kitten yuzu from us.

This is the second full season I've followed and while I technically went through a dry cactus season, my mind just kind of moved on to other things, and then as I said, October came around and I remember fs is in season and I dive right back in. I feel that the hype that I built up for the Olympics lead me to dive deeper into the sport.

How do y'all survive content wise during the off-season? When it comes to figure skating I'm super into it during the season then WC passes and it's kind of done. I fall out of it then late September/early October comes around and my brain just goes "WOOP GRAND PRIX SERIES!"

This is honestly the exact problem that I have with raising the PCS max score, because of how subjective it can be. If a judge is just flat out sick of a song or doesn't like it, that effects how they would judge. I could also get into the cultural differences and how something that someone from Japan thinks is masterfully done, a judge from the US thinks it's absolute garbage. This is definitely something you can't control. For example, Yuzu's free skate this season is to a soundtrack from a Japanese film played entirely on Japanese instruments. How would judges from more Western countries react to this? How did they react to this? That would be kind of hard to calculate, since Yuzu already has an established reputation and could absolutely be getting PCS points for that. The best way to detect a kind of bias in this respect would be to have a new skater to the senior circuit do such a routine, but that isn't very likely to happen. Edit: Speaking of the ISU's finances, I'd be really interested in seeing where their money is coming from. If there's tangible data that countries who send judges who are the worst offenders of national favoritism give the most funds to the ISU, then that could be another scandal of itself. Imagine the headlines saying that the International Skating Union is turning a blind eye to blatant bias in judging to benefit their bottom line.

I feel like if this new system were to be implemented, seeing -5 and +5s would hardly happen, however with the gate being expanded more -3, +3, and maybe even +4 or -4 would be given, which would definitely affect the way skaters arrange their programs. If you're doing a quad you regularly fall on and get 9BV points on it but lose 3 or 4 points on it, you're now getting 5 or 6, which is less than doing a triple of the same jump well. This is the textbook definition of conflicts of interest and it absolutely needs to be changed. Last time there was a big scandal about unfair judging, the whole system was overhauled. A second coming of that is definitely necessary. Countries shouldn't be able to assign their own judges and judge appointed should certainly be carried out by an independent body. There's already a fairly large pool of judges that have proven that they're not biased, albeit they are judges from countries that don't usually have medal contenders in some disciplines such as France and Australia. If, and hopefully when, such a change is made, judges that have proved to be unbiased should be appointed and ones that have proven national favoratism shouldn't be allowed. What country the judges are from shouldn't matter either, no "every country gets to send a judge". If 3 French judges prove to be unbiased but no Chinese judges are judging fairly, send more French judges than Chinese ones.

And I also agree that that's a problem. The temporary solution would be to throw out the highest and lowest given scores then calculate the mean so the only way a skater could get outrageously high, or low, GoE scores is if the judges were kahoots with each other, which is something that would continue to be absolutely obvious. However, serious action does need to be taken and judges who are clearly biased with their judging should no longer be allowed to be sent.

The way the judges grade execution, at least to my knowledge, is public. Over on the General Hanyu chat I linked to a spreadsheet a reddit user made, taking the grades for the elements of the skater, including the nationality of the skater and the judge and cross referencing to look for national bias, which there no surprise was. It's public knowledge who the biased judges are so the obvious solution is to remove them from judging panels and replace them. Another way to help eliminate bias would be to not include the highest and lowest GoE judge scores in the mean calculation, so if one judge is favoring a skater while another is biased against them, they don't get included so they pretty much cancel out. In cases where judge scores are close to each other and there isn't any bias, not including the top and bottom values would have minimal effect on the mean score.

I don't know what the actual answer would be so I'm just going to say it's Canadian magic.
