General Skating Chat

I think after yuzu retires the spotlight on Figure Skating will be focused on the ladies. They are flooding with skaters who have star power and ridiculous talent (russian ladies mostly). Then many years later we might have another male skater who is as good and popular as yuzu. But until then... I will miss the days when males figure skating popularity reached sky heights the way it is now.- 6,825 replies

But one thing that seperates Marin from other Japanese girls is that she has star power. Like yuzu she is not only gifted in looks but also in artistry. She draws the audience towards her. Which is highly prized in figure skating and very rare. But Marin in also mentally weak and not very consistent.. I consider her a jewel that hasnt been polished and it is a waste of talent.. Team Japan had a future queen but didnt do well to polish it.- 6,825 replies

I too am looking foward to the Future of Alena K. And Trusova the most. I know its early but from the looks of it the Beijing podium 2022 Looks like 1. Alina Kostornaia 2. Trusova 3. Rika Kihira or other russian lady Eteri has built monster prototypes that jump 4 salchow and 4 toe, 3 lutz-3loop jumps. The BV is so high and whats more is that Eteri girls are SO consistent, so mentally tough in competitions. I dnt think other countries stand a chance to Russian ladies atm not even Team Japan. I once thought Marin was the next queen but I think she will lose out to Zagitova's reign even though Marin is a year older. Rika Kihiras 3a is consistent but her height is average which would give her a disadvantage like Satoko. Japanese ladies need to challenge Russian ladies with more difficult jumps or else they wont win 2022 beijing gold. So imo 2022 Beijing Podium gold will most likely go to a Russian lady, they are so good. In 2022 if yuzu decides to continue maybe we will see 3 consecutive OGM from yuzu but if he retires then I cnt predict.- 6,825 replies

I wnt yuzu to skate to Michael Jackson as well hahahaha
-
I dnt knw with his rising popularity globally i think he would at least change his username and his privacy settings at the very least. Im jdt gona watch and see if this is his account quietly. If he posts another music before announcement then its officially him
-
We fanyus shld nominate him for Times most influential 100 people of 2018. Seriously, who wins back to back OGM in 66 years in any sports ?? Only legends do.
-
Im against backloading itself. I think 1 or 2 jumps shld be in the first half as a rule. And lastly I said zagitova is more than a jumping bean. She has an artistic side as well. Anyway back to Yuzu. If there is a chance for him to continue to win amongst this crazy quad fest we have now, the rules have to be changed. Yuzu will get injured more and more if figure skating is too unbalanced towards TES. I hope the ISU will know that. I once heard Russian media saying that the age limit for the senior stage should be raised from 15 so that the sport isnt dominated by little girls. I kind of agree. The reason figure skaters are retiring earlier than before is because its a sport that is too favored for younger skaters. If we raise the senior age limit to say 17, skaters like javi can compete longer.

But it is true that an artistic and total packaged skater like Hanyu can captivate the judges and the general audience with an amazing performance. I think in the end legends do win the hearts of the spectators and hence I support PCS judging to be 1:1 in ratio even if their is biased judging involved. It would encourage the next generation of skaters to be more well rounded too. As for Zagitova I think the choreographer was the problem rather than Alina. Alina has nice lines and has really good upper body expression when you see her other programs. She may not be an artistic skater but she is well rounded and not just a jumping bean imo- 6,825 replies

I wnt figure skating to reward the total package much more than jumping beans so I wnt them to reward artistic skaters much more than current. I dnt wnt jumping beans like boyang and nathan chen dominating figure skating because it becomes a jumping competition. No offence to boyang and Nathan but the current system is laid out so that they can win if all their jumps are clean. Even a clean hanyu cnt win natham if he executes 6 clean quads in the free program. The BV of quads is too high. Rather than lowering BV of quads, i wnt higher points from PCS so that artistic and total packaged skaters like Hanyu can benefit. And I wnt a higher BV for quad axel becuz it is nearly impossible haha- 6,825 replies

Someone nominate yuzu to get TIMES most influential top 100 and then us fanyus can start online voting for him in early April. He deserves it!!!♥♥
-
I think 100 points for max PCS isnt enough. There shld be a seperate point getter for perfect clean programs. I think a max 150 for pcs would balance the point system so one could get just as high PCS as well as TES
-
I wnt to see yuzu a bit longer so i dnt like the reduction in time lol. I think they shld prevent backloading, add more PCS point getters and give extra points for skaters who skate clean programs, give extra points for perfect and deduct points for jumps and spins and jst limit the number of quads attempted. But i like long programs!! It means u can see the skaters program longer..

I wont be surprized if he breaks another one under the new rules as soon as he starts competing again. Hes broken it 12 times, its jst a matter of how many more he is going to break it again. My guess is like 16 before he re***res
-
Hopefully we will hear official withdraw in the next week or so. Im sure he wnt decide 2 weeks later.
-
Im startin to like Pantene shampoos more cuz of Yuzu lol. I will buy anything yuzu commercializes.
-
Maybe cuz yuzu doesnt flutz or lip or underrotate or prerotate often that when he does the judges are shocked and instantly notice it. I think there is such a thing as immunity when it comes to judging. For example evgenia medvedeva used to flutz often but because she did tano in her lutzs and the height was sufficient she still received positive GOEs. Does Nathan prerotate his jumps too?
-
I agree. I have never seen a skater go through soooo many injuries. I dnt blame him not wntinf to go to 2022. The boy deserves peace and a healthy life free frm injuries.
-
I hvnt heard about Shoma prerotating his jumps. Im a newbie to other skaters as I have only become a fanyh after a long break jst in time for the olympic season. How is shoma getting away with underrotations even if yuzu doesnt??
-
But i guess I can still die happy cuz the first and only Yuzu competition I went to live was 2018 olympics. The best 2 days of my life. So glad it was his 2nd OGM that I could witness with my two eyes.
-
I was watching coc crash via the internet. I only saw Yuzu sp and fs at pyeongchang olympics live for the first tjme.
-
And to be honest in South Korea alot of k netizens have built yuzu as overhyped but Im not surprized they really hate japanese and russian skaters (im korean). But im glad that from what ive seen on youtube comments, the west doesnt see yuzu as overrated or overhyped. Yuzu is a legend even without the hype. Thats why i became a fan
-
I regret not knowing yuzu back in 2010 when he first debuted as Senior... I wasted 4 years of my life before Sochi unaware of mens figure skating ... Which is a shame because had i known yuzu from 2010, I would know I had 8 full years of seeing yuzu compete.. I kinda feel sorry for the newbie fans of yuzu that knew him from pyeongchang cuz they have limited years of seeing him compete live
-
I am hoping that yuzu sparked a new generation of boys in japan to learn figure skating, so that males figure skating in japan matches the competitive pool of russian ladies right now. Then we might have a chance of seeing someone similar to yuzu in talent, star power and looks ♥
-
No one will surpass the legacy and skill of yuzu but one day shoma might beat him when yuzus peak is over. But that wnt happen cuz yuzu will retire before his body peak is over. Thats what i meant haha. Yuzu is truly a legend unlikely to be repeated in figure skating history for a long long time.
-
I think Shoma will surpass yuzu one day but yuzu will retire at the peak of his prime. Yuzu always planned to retire after pyeongchang earlier. So i think yuzu will do a last japanese nationals at the top and from then on it will be shoma leading team japan without yuzu. I cnt see any japanese male jr on the international stage as good as yuzu and shoma right now. But maybe after Beijing there may be.
