@kaeryth @yuzupon Well yes, that's pretty much it. What do you say about this? It's so iconic that one can just look on and enjoy! At some point I even wondered if we should include it because really, everyone has seen it but you cannot not include it at the same time! Ooh, well we could ask @meoima to give it a go when she has some time for the fun of it! Tbh, on the other hand, I almost fear what the result would be considering some recent scores!
-
@kaeryth don't worry about it, I think we all ranted at one point or other. Multiple times. Well, frequently It's 125th birthday of the ISU in a couple of days, maybe they could give us a gift and make sure the judging is good for this season? We'll have to wait and see. Honestly at this point, I'd take the UR, steps and edge calls. I think PCS is simply busted and not much to be done about that, but these things are sometimes called so why not now? Though, it's Olympics plus the season before a rule change and if anything I feel like scores will be flying. We need to arm ourselves with patience.

Yes, pretty much. The world has changed significantly and skating officials have been left behind. The worst is that it always takes twice as long to fix the damage than to cause it. About the steps, I'll believe they'll call them when I see it

Videos on the twitter. Honestly I don't understand Mirai. This is such a small competition, yet she ditches the 3A in the free instead of going for it now, when none of it matters. And her other triples are still messy and sigh.
-
I completely forgot to add the no steps so was editing as you were answering because good grief, we're becoming used to it. But yes. I think internationally USFSA will be pushing Nathan so while of course there's always some backing to all skaters, they won't split efforts to prop up Vincent to the degree that he'd need. He'll still do well I expect, by pure BV alone, provided he can rotate them. Definitely yes on the Olympics, plus he has his own little PR campaign too, we had a 'trailer' for his short program after all. But the pure BV should push him over which then makes it a really tight battle for the remaining spot! There's also one disadvantage in that because the skaters will have to make sure they hit very good form for that, and then there's a waiting period until the Olympics but not like there's much choice.
-
Both the 4F and the 3A were highly iffy, those are URs. No steps before the Flip. He's very, very slow and there's not much in that program. I don't see him challenging the top men but I think he could challenge for one of the US spots all right, especially as judging at Nationals is different to international competitions.
-
Probably because it had so many views, no matter how silly that sounds but yeah. Yuzuru's programs are up, so is the gala. It really is unfortunate, I kept seeing that program linked in some rather surprising places but they obviously do not want skating promotion, especially not to those critical demo groups!

And now we've bounced back up in time! Aleksei Yagudin of Russia skating to Winter by Bond at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, UT, United States I don't think we need to say much about Yagudin. 2002 Olympic Champion, a four-time World champion (1998, 1999, 2000, 2002), a three-time European champion (1998, 1999, 2002), a two-time Grand Prix Final champion (1998–1999, 2001–2002) and the 1996 World Junior Champion. As a curiosity - he has never won Russian Nationals! It could be said that the 2002 was the pinnacle of his career, this was Yagudin at this best. Both the short and the long programs from the Olympics entered history. At the time he was coached by Tatiana Tarasova with Nikolai Morozov as the choreographer. If there was one thing in particular that is so memorable, it is the footwork and yet today, thanks to the new rules, this is not something we can see any longer. These old programs, and especially this one, are luckily here for us to enjoy. Yagudin left skating early, thanks to a congenital hip problem and has ultimately had a hip replacement, so when you watch him skate (link) this for Tarasova's anniversary show, keep that in mind. Yup. I have the link bookmarked and when you check, it says "This video contains content from International Skating Union, who has blocked it on copyright grounds." Why, well copyright! Or in translation because these <insert uncomplimentary name in the language of your choice> are dinosaurs who do not understand the fluidity of today's world and how social media work, how relevant they are and important to spreading of awareness so they stick to their archaic, strict world view without seeing the bigger picture.

2018 Olympics Predictions
Yatagarasu replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
I wish. And the worst is he totally could, going by what we were able to see recently. -
And ISU proves once again it is absolutely brilliant when it comes to promoting skating. Ah the sport is dying. So few kids and teens are getting into it. It's almost as if we should find something that can at least occasionally relate and bring in the viewers, maybe get featured in a popular teen magazine .... oh we know! We're going to file a copyright claim and take down the 3+ million views Sailor Moon video. That ought to do it! Right?

If Patrick decides to stay on till Montreal, maybe Yuzuru will be prompted to do it too and finally get a gold in Canada

And Skate Detroit has started today, with its absolutely ridiculous pricing for (a terrible) livestream. Here's the top two that we care about really 1. Courtney Hicks - 63.13 3F1Lo, 3Lz, 2A 2. Mirai Nagasu - 58.21 3A(<<,2ft), 3F(fall), 3Lz2T Doesn't seem particularly good for Mirai but of course, still off season. More at RS

2018 Olympics Predictions
Yatagarasu replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
Same! I wonder if he'll decide to throw all of it for the team, and maybe skate the Free, considering that is his greatest chance, even with the 4F. It'll be interesting to see some of the choices there, and not just for Canada. -
2018 Olympics Predictions
Yatagarasu replied to Yatagarasu's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
< -- me after trying to come up with answers for these Ladies Well, I'd say the number one favorite is Medvedeva of course. The previous two years have only made her reputation grow and if she can keep up, I think she has the best chances. I also love her music choices, so she's done well too. Zagi can probably get in the mix there, depending on how far she can raise her PCS in her first Senior season. I am not sure about Polina's chances. I would love to see Anna there as well but I think it's going to be the worst hunger games ever and we might see Radio win out there. She did move to get some politicking power. The Japanese ladies are such a huge question mark for me. I have no idea who's even going to go, and that's going to decide a lot. I think chances are high for Satoko and Mai but Marin has a massive push happening. Wakaba is in the mix with her 3A but consistency is something she will need. Canadian ladies also need some consistency because Kaetlyn can really do great or flop and I'm rooting for Gabby. I think she's chosen some great music. I don't see any potential dark horses here except maybe for Caro. Overall Medvedeva then it's going to be tight for the silver and bronze. Maybe Zagi and Kaetlyn, with Mai lurking ready to grab it. Men No idea who the third Japanese man will be. Mura seems likely but then could just as well end up being Keiji. USA men are an even bigger question mark. We've got to wait to see Joshua, Jason's risking a lot with the quads added. I'd say Nathan is a lock and then perhaps Vincent but who is the third man? I'd love it to be Jason but it's totally open. Adam won't go down quietly either, nor Max but I see him as the least threat. Javi, Boyang, Patrick, all threats, some 6 men clustering on top there. Overall Yuzuru and probably Shoma and Javi. Pairs There's going to be a major battle between Sui/Han and Aliona/Bruno. I don't know how strong Duhamel/Radford can return. I hope the North Koreans actually participate, it would be so fantastic. Tarasova and Morozov are still in there, and probably stronger than this year plus Yu/Zhao if they can improve some more and they probably can because she is just wonderful. Of course then there's James/Cipres that just showed us a quad throw in practice so they are more than in the game. Overall Sui/Han, Aliona/Bruno and I'll go for the surprise of James/Cipres Dance This is rather short as I think three pairs are out ahead. Overall Papadakis/Cizeron then V/M and Shibs for bronze. Team Now this is probably going to be really tight, it'll depend on quite a few things and who skates what so I'll just throw it out there Canada, Russia and USA. -

If I had a penny for every time someone had to 'ditch' something and they didn't, I'd be rich. Starting with Gracie last season and on! I guess yet another thing that we'll have to wait and see.

Lots and lots of chocolate? Oh yes, forgot. About Javi's triple combo. Yes, using the 'Plushy' one would make much more sense and be a big impact too but it's dreadfully hard. Even Plush would dg the last to a 2Lo on occasion. Honestly I don't think he can stabilize that one. But gah, yes, I'd love to see that one return. I suppose that's one of the reasons I love the 4-1-3, because it's new and effective.

@Murieleirum He's the kind of person who tends to go all out, much like he did last season and the necessity is already pretty apparent. I think we'll see it right away but in any case, if we're lucky, we have about three weeks until we know at least something! It is true that he's conquered it and I'm sure CoD will show up if he feels like there are no further issues but if he goes for five, with three in the second half, it might be that he'd go for the safer 4T-3T, keeping the overall picture in mind. It'd be less pressure overall. I mean he does have the whole 'highest average' and looking up to Zhenya thing going, so I guess it'll depend on what has the highest chances of giving him that. It's also why I too do not see the 4Lo-3T showing up in the free.

Yes, the compulsory figures were scored using a wider range of marks so the system allowed for that as each judges' scores from each phase of the competition were added together before computing ordinals. That got changed in 1980 and ordinals were computed for each competition segment separately and factors applied to the relative placements. Then in 1998, changed again, where they went from best of majority to comparing between the ordinals of all the skaters. Basically
