Well, the cringey part with the actor playing Yuzu, about how the makers of the movie virtually begged him to do the movie was new, I think. But yep, that was it... The evil overlord is still in his secret cave in Toronto... (getting ready to kill us with his new programs whenever the time comes...)
-
Today is the TBS show (2pm, JST), FaOI Kanazawa Day 3 (not sure what time) and tomorrow H&F Day 1 (i.e. no Yuzu day), I think. Next weekend are days 2 and 3 (they're all in the calendar except the TBS one) as well as 24HTV... Busy times ahead...

I know ^_^ Javi's an amazingly great sport! (Though, looking at it seriously, I'm not sure I agree with the approach of this CM...)
-
Ok, now I demand he wears those costumes at ROI!

Twitter links under spoilers don't work properly for me... but I clicked on the pink one... that's not really pink enough, though lol Though pink would go with HYK... Hmm... *currently has purple and dark pink highlights, so is a fan of crazy colors* Actually, colored highlights could be cool (and not as damaging as doing all the hair...), but aside from that one time with blue hairspray for Dream on Ice, Yuzu seems a little too traditional to go crazy with his hair...

... seriously? Oh well... hello, yahoo auctions...
-
Oh, it's over already? I wonder if online goods sales will start soon, then... (hopefully not too soon ^_^; *is still broke*) And this means Yuzu's getting his costumes back... *has evil recycling thoughts* (only not really, since even when recycling, he changed the costumes LOL)

Well, the only alternative to that would be to never argue against the lies. I'm actually against arguing with antis because it's pointless. This would be more for the ones still innocent but swayed by the antis and for fans confused - for example, like Yata said, Yuzu fans who believe the 4T-3T at GPF'15 was UR. And like I said, it depends on how you define consistency lol If consistency = results consistency, then yes, he's probably the most consistent in many years. But if consistency = doing many clean programs, then not so much. How many clean performances has he had since becoming Sochi, for starters? (Of course, then you have to define what clean means Just no falls, or no negative GOE? Or performing all elements as planned?) Either way, not that many. Anyway, like I said, I don't agree with this narrative, but I can see where they're coming from and what to point that out, in an attempt at objectivity (or maybe rather playing devil's advocate lol). Personally, I'm not sure I'd be as much of a fan if he was perfect all the time, anyway. It'd just get boring...

I don't have much to contribute to the commentators debate, as I prefer watching no-comment performances, but I've heard really bad commentators in soccer and F1, too. What this topic - as well as the previous one about bullying and even earlier about tabloids - made me think, though, is this: might it not be good for us to have, somewhere on the planet, a thread dedicated to busting 'urban myths' about Yuzu? A place to address the lies and misconceptions, with arguments. A place where confused or misguided fans can be pointed to, where they can find out the truth about all those things. I think, if done properly, it could be a great place for fans to find facts, instead of lies. And it'd be better than trying to argue with antis on twitter and so on. I am, however, not really offering to put it together, as I don't have enough time Brian said Yuzu was wild and lacked control, which meant he'd sometimes find himself on his back. But this was early on and it's consistency with his jumps rather than consistency with his results. Personally, I see a bit where people who call Yuzu inconsistent come from, although I still disagree with them, because it's a very narrow view of his overall performances and achievements. I think it also depends a lot on how one defines inconsistency. That is, yes, as far as results go, one cannot possibly call him inconsistent. However, we all know he can be unpredictable as far as landing his quads goes. And in many ways, that's natural. They're not exactly a walk in the park. And he's not anywhere near less consistent than other quadsters. But, from that point of view, yes, he's not exactly 100% consistent. Of course, that happens because he keeps challenging himself, his programs are probably the most difficult and others, doing his programs, would probably be even less consistent. But like I said, if you look only at landing jumps and doing clean programs, then yes, one can say he's not consistentv - though I'll roll my eyes at it, because it ignores all the other stuff I've mentioned. If however they try claiming anyone else is more consistent than Yuzu, that's an entirely different topic and I'm 100% on your side, then.

You're right. I also just remembered he's doing that ice opera in Italy those days, with Plush and co. I guess we'll see, yeah... IIRC, last year, Kolyada was losing steam by Euros - I think he'd been doing much better in the earlier competitions? Or was that just an impression?. It'll be interesting to see if he'll figure out his peaking. I'm in a way more concerned about Aliev. He seemed somewhat unpredictable... I think that aside from being fit, what could help Javi a lot is if he's relaxed. Some of his best skates happened when it seemed he had nothing more to lose. Boston free, IdF last year. And I think avoiding the stress of competitions might just make him zen enough to get an upper hand... But then again, I'm sure he does want that 7th title and on the contrary, being away from competition for so long might instead make him nervous ^_^; But he's already 6 times European Champion, so whatever happens is fine. As long as he enjoys it and doesn't have any regrets! He did. But he also said some time back that he wouldn't do Japan Open anymore. That's why I said he might change his mind lol But I'm not sure about those... they're very close to ROI shows and he'd have little to no time to train before them. I suspect after the last show he'll go to Toronto right away and start intensely training for the little less than a month he'll have... That's why it would have made sense to try an event before the season - maybe even one where he has about the same amount of time to prepare. Basically a test drive. But it won't happen with ACI and probably not with any other competition either...
-
Maybe it'll give us a hint as to whether the new rules favor artistry more or technical difficulty more... though probably not lol (I admit I'd love it if he suddenly decided to rain on Yuzu's parade and do ACI again, as practice Unlikely, but one can daydream lol More seriously, I agree he should do at least one other international competition, instead of just JO and Euros... It seems a bit too ambitious. And he changed his mind about JO, so why not ACI? lol) His program is going to be pretty tight, with the last shows at the end of December... but I like to think he knows what he's doing. I really want him to get that 7th title! I'll try to remain coherent enough for a full report! lol It'll be my first ice show (not counting galas), so I'm quite excited! (It's too bad all my hopes of a surprise Yuzu appearance were dashed by GP scheduling... unless he can teleport from Moscow lol) And since this is Team Spain, I'm looking forward to seeing Sara and Kirill in Helsinki. I remember liking them in the gala at Euros last year, so it'll be great to have a chance to see them live. (And I hope they do really well, so I can tell Javi I cheered for them :p lol j/k I'll cheer for them, anyway. The more Spanish skaters, the better!)
-
I've been wondering the same... But well, there's also Japan Open and after beating Shoma and Nathan last year, he might like to do it again, so he'll need some practice for that, too. And even for his ice show, he'll need to stay in shape. I haven't watched the original, not to spoil myself, but I think he'll be skating in it quite a lot. He'll need to be in good shape. (I do wish he'd start announcing the guests, too, though... just out of curiosity lol Though I'm plenty excited just about seeing and meeting him, even without others...)
-
I'm a bit confused... why would antis use him being bullied to further their agenda? Being bullied doesn't make the one being bullied bad, it makes the bullies bad... though I guess antis being bullies, they related to the bullies more... I can assure you no one here thinks anything less about Yuzu if he was indeed bullied. Quite the contrary, they're more likely to admire him even more for rising above it. And then... about that girl, just because she said he is kind doesn't mean it's ok to make fun of him. Making fun of someone can be bullying as well. Of course, it does depend on context and so on, but any bully can play nice to hide the fact that they are bullies. Although if she is one of the ones interviewed on TV, then I definitely do hope it's not true and they actually got along well. As for the chair thing, regardless of when it was done and by whom, that is bullying. And since he was directly referenced, that was bullying towards him. I do admit I don't remember having ever heard the autograph story from Yuzu, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is made up. But seriously, the whole thing is based on the premise that the one being bullied is somehow the bad guy and that is just so wrong I don't even know where to start with it... That being said, I would much prefer it if it's true that Yuzu and his classmates got along and there were maybe just some bad jokes here and there instead of actual bullying, but even if there was bullying, that changes nothing about how I feel or think about him and it definitely doesn't affect any of his achievements.

I'm no expert in the underworld of Japanese net, but I think 2chan is 2chan and matome is matome. I'm pretty sure there is no one here to take 2ch seriously, but what was linked looks more like an article, admittedly probably put together by a fan, with arguments for the things it states - twitter screenshots and such. It does not look like a thread and definitely not a 2ch thread. So I think it's ok. Though really, people generally also need to learn to filter online information and learn to discern between trustworthy stuff and stuff to be skeptical about and stuff to dismiss as obviously fake, without requiring others to protect them from the bad stuff all the time. I agree with not promoting crap or hatred, but let's not freak out every time something negative pops up. As long as we calmly and firmly expose it for what it is - hatred, jealousy, lies etc. - I personally think it's fine to mention some of the negative stuff, too.

Thank you very much for sharing! I now remember hearing the autograph story before, but not the rest. It's really sad, but in a way not surprising. I'm happy he spent most of his last year of high school in Toronto, in a much warmer and more welcoming atmosphere... (I wonder if this might explain some his not going out and focusing 100% on skating... if at home he had little choice but to do so... I do hope the bullies were a minority, though...) They could have done it while he wasn't there and taken a picture before cleaning it up, but as it was clearly directed at him, it's still bullying, even if he wasn't there. (In a way, it'd be even worse if he was at some competition and saw it...)
-
I don't think I've ever heard this before... I do know in Asaichi, Tsuzuki-sensei said he argued with older boys at the rink, but I didn't get the impression that was bullying... In most footage we've seen from his school days, his classmates seem to like him... and in highschool he was in a sports class, so especially then, the others probably understood... But who knows? Appearances can be deceiving... Thank you for translating! Now I naturally wonder about the source for this lol
-
Hmm... I wonder what it says about me that I think this is possibly the most beautiful he's ever looked in my eyes And I wish there was more info on this... I know he's done some anti-bullying stuff, but I didn't know he's had first hand experience with it...

In Japan, throughout the Summer there are many fireworks shows and competitions. For competitions, I think they often use music so it's kind of like a fireworks performance. I'm guessing this is what this was, a competition entry. But not sure...
-
Oh, I meant it jokingly lol I know it's fun and real meltdowns are rare. And we'll wonder and discuss anyway, even if he doesn't give us anything lol
-
Last year he did at least one runthrough of Seimei with all the jumps, I think (he skipped some spins and choreo). Well, the jumps as he announced them then. We later found out he did 4Lz-3T as well, but media kept quiet about it. Would they keep quiet if they saw 4A? I like to think so, but they might need some time to be able to act like they didn't see it lol. But realistically, I doubt we'll see it this early. One thing that would make no announcement till ACI good is we would have no chance to have meltdowns over costumes, choreo, layout after hearing the song titles, as we'd be dealt almost the full package from the beginning. But I doubt he'll do that. I think he'll announce them eventually.

Ohhhh, I've said this too many times, but White Legend was my favorite costume of those seen up close at the Takashimaya exhibition! I always thought it would be H&L, but that was a close second. Both had beautiful colors (the purples in White Legend are really beautiful and H&L colors need no comment), but White Legend is more... complex, without appearing too busy - like up close Seimei 1.0 - and that complexity totally fascinated me. Etude seems gorgeous, too. R&J1 costume was never really my thing - I like it more because it's a part of the whole of that Worlds 2012 performance lol. All in all, I'd love a new costume by her!

I wonder if we'll reach 4000 pages before or after the program announcements...

While I agree with most opinions here that Yuzu is an athlete and not an idol and should be treated as such, the reality is that that is sadly not going to happen any time soon. And the more 'mysterious' he is (which in normal terms means very private), the more tabloids will try to find something scandalous about him. IMO, the brightest thing about this is that they can't find anything, because his life, by tabloid standards, is very boring. But it's really hard for them to believe that, so they keep digging trying to find something. I don't know if being more open about his private life would change anything, because it's pretty clear that his life is just skating, studying, games and headphones. Which is fine if it's what makes him happy. I don't think there is anything anyone can do to prevent this from happening, sadly. He was huge after Sochi, grown bigger and bigger and now he is beyond huge in Japan. The same popularity that allows him to touch a lot of people and influence a lot of people has as a dark side the fact that he has reached idol status (his looks also help, I'm sure) and he will be hounded by tabloids trying to find anything interesting. He's famous and that's enough, it doesn't matter to them why he's famous. I have a particular dislike for tabloids, since I believe they played a huge part in destroying the reputation of a former idol I like and they even went after another musician, who is one of the most private people ever. But they exist and I don't think they'll go away anywhere. It's bad when they make up stories, because I think those hurt Yuzu the most, and of course, being stalked is never fun, but it's sadly probably something he will have to get used to. As long as tabloids have enough money to send paparazzi to Canada for complete non-stories like this, at least. One can hope they'll give up soon enough, but... ETA: As for the revelation of programs, I've been joking about him not revealing them until ACI, but it'd actually be kind of cool if that were to be the case. Personally, I wish he'd just tells us, though lol "I'll reveal it on XX.XX" or "I'll reveal it at ACI". Just give us a date to look forward to rather than wonder if it'll be next week or the following week or next month etc. But Yuzu does things the Yuzu way and we'll just have to deal with it lol
