  1. WHATTTTTT. What kind of privileged middle school did you attend? How come I never got to watch those?
  2. Keep doing you, Henni! Your stats posts are always informative and easy to understand, while at the same time pointing out how mind-blowingly awesome Yuzu is. Even other skaters are proud to be on your list!
  3. I have not watched H&L for some time now and I felt very emotional and nostalgic watching this. Even though I already know the result, I felt my nervous heart jumping with excitement with each landed jump. Yuzu just exudes the air of a king here, commanding everyone to watch him. Even though this was just 4 years ago, it is like this is from another time when scoring wasn't as ridiculous as it is now. These days, FS is hardly exciting to me anymore. We all can all sort of guess who is going to win without even watching the competition and this has extended to every discipline. I miss those times when my heart raced when watching every competition.
  4. Okay it probably wasn't him but the person at ISU who updated his profile who did this but having 'None' as his hobbies really seems like trolling to me I mean like, imagine someone looking up the official profile of this widely talked about two-time Olympic champion and finding out that he doesn't have any hobbies.
  5. Rika has had amazing self-awareness, foresight and drive from a young age. It reminds me a little of Yuzu. In that interview when she was 14 years old, she said that she thinks that at the Beijing Olympics, there will surely be 4-5 people who would jump the 3A. Even for skaters who are not good at 3A, there would probably be skaters who would be jumping two quads, so she had to start practicing quads from then. We all know how the situation is now, so it was great foresight on her part to start practicing quads early, especially since there wasn't anyone jumping quads in competition yet. [I don't know when the Russian girls first showcased their quads in a non-competitive setting.] I'm also really impressed with her athletic ability. She changed her 3S technique before her senior debut to enable her to jump 4S, didn't she? But she's never had any consistency issues on the 3S despite the change and even used it as her last jumping pass after the choreo sequence in Beautiful Storm. That's amazing. I'm rooting hard for her. I hope everything she's doing now will bring results at the Olympics.
  6. On the topic of Japanese romanization... I honestly never knew there were so many romanization systems for Japanese as I learnt the pronunciations of kana using the Hepburn system, which I thought was really good at representing the actual pronunciation of the words. Until once, when I visited Japan, I read a cashier's romanized name off their name tag, which stated that their name was Tukiko Tiba. I was perplexed! I was pretty sure there was no hiragana for 'tu' and 'ti' in Japanese, also, the kanji was clearly Tsukiko Chiba. And Japanese people don't pronounce 'tsu' while omitting the S sound either. So I read up about it and found out about the existence of the different romanization systems, but honestly, I'm still confused by all of it and much prefer the Hepburn romanization. I don't want Yuzu's name to turn out being Yuduru!
  7. Hey everyone! I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post this here, but I saw this fan's post on YHIFG's FB page sharing that Ice Rink Sendai is facing financial difficulties due to the pandemic. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1610393525875114/permalink/2841651286082659/ The post author has linked a picture of the source article mentioning the financial difficulties in the comments section of her post. 8. That's an amazingly detailed dream! Right down to the correct costumes and hairstyles to match each day! I'm amazed you could remember it in such great detail.
  9. Shingo wonders if the bus stop in Toronto has Yuzu on it again for his birthday this year. Anyone able to confirm?
  10. Happy Birthday to the King, Yuzuru Hanyu! Thank you for being an inspiration to so many all around the world. May all your wishes come true this year, and may you always remain happy and healthy.
  11. I know, right. I landed in Osaka only to find everyone on PH panicking, and it was hard finding out more information as I had to catch my trains and sort my accommodation. I just knew something bad had happened, but I didn't know what. Thank goodness PC 2018 went really, really well and I got to see Yuzu (finally) at NHK 2019.
  12. I don't remember the exact date I knew Yuzu, nor do I remember the first program of his that got me hooked as I was kind of binge watching him after the first video and everything just blended into a blurry mess. What I do remember, is that it was definitely between SC 2016 and NHK 2016, so that would make it nearly 1500 days since AH. So I guess one of the first Yuzu programs I watched was LGC or Hope & Legacy, both of which I loveeee. Being a baby fanyu at the time, I didn't know any means of watching FS live, so I only followed the results of NHK 2016 and GPF 2016 and watched the videos after. The first competition I watched live online was 4CC 2017. By WC 2017, I was so nervous for Yuzu that I could hardly think about anything else, especially after that 5th place SP. Fortunately, his FS was perfection, winning him his 2nd world title and getting me more hooked along the way. Then I miraculously won tickets to NHK 2017 (sobs, let's not talk about what happened here). After that, besides worrying endlessly about Yuzu's condition leading to the PC Olympics, I was fretting for months about how I was going to watch Yuzu live during the Olympics itself as the Men's SP and FS fell right on the first and second days of Lunar New Year 2018, and, like all festive periods, engaging in ~family activities~ like visiting relatives and stuff is a must. Somehow, again miraculously, I escaped all the family obligations and managed to watch the Olympics live peacefully, and those were one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my life. Everything after that has been a bonus for me, just being able to watch his beautiful skating makes me very happy.
  13. So it's been a year since I first and last saw him live, huh. Never forget that yolo 3A-1Eu-3S right in front of my side of the rink I feel ya, man...
  14. Oh no, Uncle Voronov!! I have special memories of him. As a relatively new fan of FS back then, I did not take much notice of him yet, when I attended the 2017 NHK Trophy. Since Yuzu withdrew that time due to reasons that shall not be mentioned, I watched and cheered on other skaters without the usual nervousness of Yuzu competing (although feeling terribly sad the whole day). Suddenly, Uncle Voronov unexpectedly won the competition! I remember cheering loudly for him, his performances at that competition were great. After that, he even went on to make the GPF that Olympic season (and the season after that)! I was surprisingly proud of him. I was watching him at the 2017 GPF live online, and I will never forget that cheeky Seimei tribute at the end of his FS I wish all the best to him in his next phase of life.
  15. Late to the COC 2014 topic. I don't have any intention of adding doom and gloom to the thread right now, as I've pretty much spent my negative energy quota for the day and am in no mood to think about how terrible this event was. On to the positive. I just wanted to mention that I looooove the end of Yuzu's first spin I love how he transitions from the A-spin to an upright spin with one bent knee (what do you call this, a twizzle spin? ), raising his hands in a flourish to the music. Beautiful. Also, with the head bandage on, it almost felt as tragic as the Phantom himself. I thought it was a very nice touch, my favourite 'standing upright' spin from any skater. Maybe it's because Yuzu's twizzles are so aesthetically pleasing that this spin looks good too? He just looked so, how should I say it, grand with the hand flourish? So authoritative and in control. How does he manage to look good while so injured?? The first time I finally had the courage to watch this, I was almost squeezing my eyes shut throughout, until that spin. It really caught my eye. Okay, that's enough rambling from me!
  16. Yuzu is a two-time Olympic champion, four-time GPF champion and SIX-time GPF medalist. Get the numbers right.
  17. I'm very hopeful that Rika can make this work for her (8 years ago, a certain someone also moved to TCC 2 years before the Olympics and we all know what happened after that...) Among all skaters, Rika is the one who reminds me of Yuzu the most. She seems to be very determined, ambitious and able to analyse her own body condition and mistakes at competitions with great detail. Her fussiness with her boots, blades and costume weight is also reminiscent of Yuzu And let's not forget those YOLO layouts at competitions she successfully pulled off. Very few skaters have successfully changed their layouts on the spot to maximize points after making mistakes. These days, besides Yuzu, the only skaters who make my heart rate go up before competitions are Rika and Kaori. I really adore Rika. Hope for the best for her.
  18. I'm really shocked. I watched him during the PC Olympics. Rest in Peace, Chris.
  19. Thank you @sweetwater! I was very happy to see you too! I'm looking forward to and hoping there will be more chances in the future. Which brings me to say that personally, the best Yuzu moment for me this season was definitely being able to attend NHK 2019 and seeing Yuzu compete live for the first time after missing out on seeing him during NHK 2017. Thank goodness for that, because now the virus has made everything so uncertain and I'm not sure if I'd be able to travel to any competitions this season
  20. Thank goodness it has been decided that Worlds has been cancelled. Imagine the risk of transmitting the disease. While I'm really relieved Worlds has been cancelled, I also feel really sad for all the athletes who had been working really hard for this chance at Worlds. (Wakababy ) Some may never have the chance at another Worlds. Especially with the short competitive careers of the ladies these days, you just have to wonder how different it would all be at this time next year. It's now or never, for some of these athletes. Sad.
  21. This Sailor Moon Ice Show sounds really exciting! I was a big fan of the series myself. Sorry, I don't know where else to post about this topic, but since others are already talking about it here, thought I'd post here. I did a bit of googling and found the Prism on Ice page. https://prettyguardians.com/contents/297565 Satton as Sailor Mercury! And so many well-known skaters too! In addition to that, I'm extra excited about ANZA as special cast! ANZA is the vocalist of the metal band Head Phones President. She was the first Sailor Moon actress of the Sailor Moon Musicals back in 1993!
  22. he did say after Nats that he would rearrange his SP music by 4CC, didn't he? Don't tell me this was what he meant by that
  23. Happy Birthday, Yuzu! May you always be happy, and have a free skate you can be proud of today!
  24. Happy Birthday, Yuzu! Wishing you all the happiness and the best of health always. May that right ankle have a smooth and quick recovery
