  1. They'd have to be real jerks to ask them to take it down for breach of copyright and that's assuming they have copyright in the first place. If they got it from a broadcaster, the broadcaster would own copyright and not Yuzu himself. If the photo was taken by a fan, the fan would own copyright (assuming Canada is part of the intl treaty). I don't know Canada's copyright laws but they should be quite similar to Aus as we study Canadian cases as a cross-cultural comparison and performer's rights in copyright generally doesn't apply to sports and/or to photos of a live performance in Aus, meaning Yuzu would not own joint copyright over his image. Basically, as long as they haven't taken it from a broadcaster or magazine, they should be okay (and again, see point one about being jerks lol).
  2. I think with Kpop, it's not the goal for the idols to see it in person unlike Yuzu where we know where he is most days. Usually, it's a show of the 'strength' of the fandom and also trying to get their idols' images to 'prestigious' places where they wouldn't normally be (also, if it causes one or two New Yorkers to look up the group and become a fan, bonus lol) ( : I didn't realise it but thinking about it, it's one of those 'culture shock' things that is considered weird outside of fandom lol
  3. Hmm...I get what you mean about Toronto being a 'safe' space. idk, I feel like perhaps that's overstating the impact of a poster that is (hopefully) temporary and passive, and probably only here because he's been missing/injured so 'legit' representatives of fan love eg. Japanese TV, might not send him well-wishes on our behalf like they usually would? (tbh better than the people who visit TCC to try and get in to see him - iirc Brian mentioned them in passing on JP TV). I definitely hope this is a one-off thing though, and you're absolutely free to feel the way you do. I suppose I'm just curious about the gap in our perceptions and the reason for it ( : I agree for sure - albeit, frankly speaking, not everyone has the skill to do full body fanart (even I usually find it more relaxing to just focus on face/upper body). I do hope there is a better balance though ( :
  4. Exactly, which is probably why he refrains from sharing what he likes LOL (I think he mentioned on Asaichi he got about 8). though I bet if his fandom pitched in to get him a $$$$$$ custom earphone voucher, he'd be pretty happy But really, my biggest wish is for everyone to pitch in to get him a custom suit fitting session with a local tailor c'mon, let's kickstart this. Yeah, I get that he's uncomfortable with being seen as an idol. Anything that I guess isn't just ~I made an intricate study of the beauty of your face~ would probably be better - I think funny manga-style panels with a point of view/message might give him a laugh. Then again, how many does he look at/read, given how much he gets? Most fanart is inevitably more for the artist to just get their feelings out -- tbh I only expect him to keep a small handful that are truly wonderful. Fanart of his jumps is an idea! Maybe something for me to work on : P (honestly homewares and house items indirectly inspired by his skating that they can display/use would be my preference... I'm 10000% about practical gifts over decorative lol). Tbh I would probably make fanart of him to give out to other fans more than throw at him.
  5. Lol maybe my perception is skewed a bit because, coming from Kpop, fans regularly pitch in to buy ad space on subways to celebrate their faves' birthdays. It doubles as a way of promoting the group/celeb to the general public. As long as he doesn't have like...fans hiding behind the billboard ready to pounce, hopefully it's just a largely innocuous gesture, if a bit embarrassing (tbh if Yuzu's friends are anything like my friends towards a 'famous' mutual friend, they'd send him photos of his face on billboards in Japan whenever they see him lol it's not like Yuzu has never seen his face in public). It's very sweet and considerate that you want to send him stuff that means something to him and that you're careful about how you express your appreciation - I wish more people would do that (esp people commenting shipping stuff on Javi's insta for example would stop and actually think about the fact he reads that stuff ) I thought that, as a fanartist myself, I would perhaps share my thoughts on your second point. I agree it's always tricky because while you do want to draw stuff that skaters will personally appreciate, they're also performers and understand the audience loves them for what they present, aka. themselves. It's not like an author of a novel who can appreciate fanart of her characters - the skaters and their performance are the subject so it's hard to separate the two. And as an artist...the emotion when you draw a photo of someone to give to them is more like 'thank you for inspiring me to draw this'. Sometimes, it's stuff that you can't quite put into words so you spend the time to carefully try and capture every detail in your art -- the effort poured into creating the art, I think, is often where the love and the appreciation goes, and if that's your main way of expressing yourself, I can understand why people would send Yuzu fanart of himself, because that's where they pour their heart and soul. It's probably particularly overwhelming for Yuzu because he gets so much but I know Jason Brown, for example, was so excited to get fanart of himself, so I don't think it's inherently a bad thing. I agree that crafts and paper fans that don't put his face as the spotlight tend to be much better presents though (which is why I'm soo glad for the Chinese fan who designs the costume fans... I said it when it was posted but it's really the ideal balance between expressing love for Yuzu's skating while also being a present they can display in the home without making Yuzu look like an egotistical narcissist). And I agree with @Xen that, not knowing much about him, it's kind of difficult to find personally meaningful presents. Maybe when I do prepare an art present to give him, I'll give him a detailed sketch of his favourite earphones lol.
  6. We can @ the TCC twitter in a reply to the original tweet and maybe email a link to JSF?
  7. I will never understand people who would leave comments about shipping or speculating with each other on his breakup/relationship in third person on his personal Instagram no one taught them about boundaries, clearly......
  8. Yikes, the signs aren't looking good if we can believe Inside the Games. Well... I wonder what it would take to persuade Putin/higher ups not to boycott the Olympics if the IOC hands down a ruling against Russia. I suppose if there were athletes so beloved by the nation that there would be mass public anger at the thought of them not competing at the Olympics at all? I'm not too familiar with the Russian sporting scene to know but would the priority be more on the Summer Olympics?
  9. I think to me, it's because it's a clunky translation of a very elegant name (taut is fine, it's the rope I'm laughing about). I can see where they got it from for sure, they're not technically wrong....well....mostly, but the word 'rope' carries really different connotations to string, let alone bowstring. Even chord may have been better. 弦 ('gen') is well, literally a bowstring and secondarily the strings of string instruments (jisho.org gives the example of a shamisen). I think this when I think of rope lol
  10. completely off topic but I'm cracking up so hard at Edea's inaccurate translation of Yuzu's name in his profile that I have to share (we all love 'taut rope' hanyu in this house) http://ice.edeaskates.com/en/our-skaters/yuzuru-hanyu/
  11. omg it does work with the Opera VPN, thank you @Fay! The map is absolutely beautiful @Hydroblade, we definitely need to let everyone see it! And omg I just realised someone has left a message....who lives exactly in the suburb I live alkdas;f
  12. Send it to all the journalists who always claim his fans are all Japanese. I suggest we tweet at TCC slightly before his birthday so they have a better chance of being aware of it by the day ( : Huh...interesting, I wouldn’t think that it would have something to do with location since I was able to access it a few days ago and saw someone had left a message from Brisbane. I don’t have a VPN right now - can you recommend a good free one?
  13. Yeah, tried on Chrome, Firefox and Safari on incognito windows as well as regular and same thing. Not keen on downloading IE to test but I don't think it's a cookies/browser issue....
  14. The entire page isn't loading (it's just blank/white and then eventually displays the timed out message - ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT). Not sure what's going on there, maybe it's just an issue unique to me? : /
  15. For some reason, the page is just totally refusing to load for me ): I just get: "This site can’t be reached feathered-strings.me took too long to respond."
  16. Well the drawings are definitely digital, though some of it looks like a screen recording of someone actually drawing the pictures with a tablet and others are clearly existing clipart/pictures that are slowly unmasked (or lineart that is suddenly filled/things coloured in). The hand......either he greenscreened his own hand drawing or it's a photo tracked to the movements. The amount of work that would have to go into this is kind of boggling my mind lol
  17. I'm O_____O at this video. What is this witchcraft?! How does he make the hand track his movements on a digital drawing???? Are they all his drawings? (especially the ones with drastically different styles). What talent??? ??
  18. I doubt Russia would compete under a neutral flag... national pride and all, I can't see their leadership ceding to it. They're still taking the hard line that there is absolutely no state-sanctioned doping iirc and accepting part of the 'punishment' would be tantamount to admitting there's some validity in the charges. I know there's little chance Zhenya could affect the decision but I hope she won't feel guilty about it if the IOC does decide to take the drastic measures. This whole thing is such a mess. Athletes don't deserve to be scapegoated and punished for the crimes of an entire system of officials/gov/organisations but if there really is such a system, it's never going to change unless the organising committee pulls the trigger and metes out extreme sanctions. It's like trying to wipe out an infection/virus -- too little and you might not kill the 'root' cause but if you're really going to raze it to the ground, you will inevitably be ruining the efforts of many many innocent athletes too )):
  19. Posted 2hrs ago so...well, he's alive! He looks happy.... nothing visibly wrong. what r u doin patrick
  20. Oohhhh I've never seen this angle! Now we know what they were looking at in the K&C (I'm Tracy, applausing that 4T3T). I still don't know why he did that HEAD TWIST with one arm extended though lol, probably something they were talking about and not what they saw on the recap screen (campaign to get a proper mic and 3 separate camera angles in the K&C) Oh damn, that is so nice and I never noticed this move?? Now I need to rewatch LGC to see if he did it during comp (I don't think he did because he didn't in GPF and that was....the few times he actually landed his 4S3T cleanly.... asl;kfa)
  21. Oh Zhenya... On one hand, I guess I would have been glad to be given some chance to try and argue for my case instead of just waiting like a helpless prisoner for the executives to hand down a decision but...what a weight for a 18yr old to carry while injured too. Russia would likely boycott the Olympics even if they were allowed to compete as neutral athletes, it’s a bit ‘all or nothing’. It’s always too much to expect the officials and higher ups who actually put the system in place to be punished, athletes always have to take the fall
  22. lmao I will never get over the Helsinki security dude like........ #same (actually the Olympics dude was pretty iconic too. Imagine just being an ordinary journalist in the pit, trying to get your article in by the deadline and you're the first person the new Olympic champion makes eye contact with after realising he won )
  23. Hmm actually, after refreshing on the cognitive function stack (I use this Thought Catalog page as a useful shorthand/quick guide), I see your point about P. I also think the ENFP strengths/weaknesses align more with what we've seen of Yuzu, than either INFP/ENFJ. I wonder if the knack for details is an extension of a strong F function - it seems to be more people/situation-related (albeit it's not like anyone's sat him down and asked him to recall objective sensory details so our data is biased). Or maybe it's just having a good memory and completely unrelated lol (hello! I've actually found a fair few INTJ female unicorns online so you're added to the list! : P And yeah, he's def capable of adopting T function but is very F lol) I definitely get @SparkleSalad's point about performance being an outlet for introverted people's emotions but I think perhaps it has more to do with shyness - Shoma is a classic example of an introverted, shy person who is able to project a completely different aura when he's performing that shows the intense inner emotion/competitiveness/fire that he has. I don't think Yuzu is particularly shy around strangers, or at least seems quick to win them over by filling any awkward silences with chatter. Could be another way of dealing with shyness I suppose, but I don't really get that vibe from him as strongly. Of course, we should trust what Yuzu says about himself* but if he's actually an introvert, he does an excellent job of playing for the other side. *small caveat: I would say that one's self perception can differ vastly from the impression/image they give out to others : P
  24. Mm I saw someone type him as an ENFJ and I think I agree with that, though I think, based on observations, he has a pretty impressive balance of all functions that I rarely see, such as his tendency to remember minute details about where he met people or exactly where events happened (very S...my N self is in awe since I forget small 'irrelevant' details all the time) or comfort with improvising on the fly (P) coupled with tendency to see wider patterns (N) - eg. in the progression of figure skating, thinking holistically about performance - and meticulous way of organising thoughts/tracking progress which is more of a J function). I do lean more towards typing Yuzu as an extrovert, albeit with strong introverted tendencies -- extroversion isn't exactly needing people 24/7 I think, but it's being significantly energised by the presence of others instead of drained, which fits with how he is around people unless he's really good at hiding the exhaustion... he's at least starkly different from eg. Shoma/Nathan who seem to be more classic introverts...you can almost feel how much they want to just go back to their rooms and sleep after galas whereas Yuzu......well. Oh well, it's all guesswork, based on limited media evidence, really (Don't get me started on my MBTI junkie rabbit hole - I'm still not good enough to internalise all the primary/secondary/tertiary/inferior functions for each type but I find the entire thing fascinating, albeit probably not much more legit than horoscopes lol. I test 99% of the time as INTJ, though I also identify with/have tested as INFJ/INTP)
